A question for carbonated soft drinks

Recommended Posts

I posted my experience to discourage bandsters from drinking soda at all. Considering the risk, I have given up soda. But thanks for your concern Mindy.

Sorry I didnt not realize that you had given it up .

I was not trying to me rude and I hope I did not offend you .

Mindy

A. Carbonation won't stretch out your band, but it may stretch out your pouch.

B. coffee did not make me morbidly obese. I drink it black no sugar.

My doc says no caffiene or carbonation ever after surgery. I stopped back in feb and my surgery should be in November. Carbonation expands the pouch and caffiene can irritate your stomach. So I kicked both out of my diet already. Water is my best friend :w00t:

Hi Everyone, Everything I have read about the band and what my doc says NO CARBONATED drinks, NO CAFFENINE, Period. Now think about what you wanted to accomplish when you got banded. Didn't anyone tell you its a life changing experience.?? SO CHANGE give up old bad habits and replace with new HEALTHY ones. Like drinking Water which you need to flush out the fat. Not sodas. If you want cheap really good tasting Water. Put a picture from your tap in the fridge. Let it sit overnight. All the chemical taste will be gone. I am supposed to drink 64 oz a day. I put that amount in the fridge everynight. Next morning I start drinking. If I have to go somewhere I pour some in a old water bottle. YOU can do this! All you have to do is replace the word CAN'T with CAN and just do it.

Sorry for the soap box treatment. But if your not willing to change the habits that got you to be banded... WHY DID YOU GET BANDED?

Nicely stated Barb. You make me want to go get a big glass of icewater right now :(

I am suppose to drink 64 oz of fluids a day also. I am only 12 days post op and still on Clear Liquids. Can a person drink too much?? Today my stomach hurts. I had 2 cups of broth for dinner, got so thristy (maybe too much salt)

and only waited 30 minutes and had 2 cups of Water. That was a while ago and am still somewhat "sore".

I usually sip all day...but maybe too much?? Please advice. Thanks

My doc said no carbonated drinks of any kind - ever - unless I was stuck on a deserted island with nothing but sodas! She did say it would be best to limit caffeine, and although I love my coffee, I had already started changing that habit and she was fine with what I am doing now. Late last year I gradually switched from full caff to half caff, and since January I do a blend that's about 75% caffeine free, all sugar free, and I use fat free half & half. I have always made my cappucinos and all at home, so that made it easier for me. I use Torani sugar free syrups to flavor them up, splenda if necessary, and unsweetened cocoa powder if I want a mocha.

I miss soda, but for me giving that up was worth it. If she had told me no more coffee ever, I might have thought twice about it!

My friend had gastric bypass and was told NO SODAS. She started drinking one now and then about 5 months after surgery and quickly became addicted to Pepsi and went to 6 cans a day. She recently had a camera put down her throat to check her "pouch" and it had stretched out to almost a normal size because of the soda. She had no one to blame but herself. I too was addicted to sodas and gave them up on 12-17-07. I was miserable for at least three months. Then I slowly stopped the craving. I now don't think about them at all and I will listen to my doctor who says NO SODAS. I want to lose weight and keep it off.

When I met with my nutritionist prior to surgery she knew how much I loved my coffee. We sat down and evaluated how much coffee I drank and she she said that after the six weeks I could have 10oz. of caffeinated coffee a day and 20oz. of Decaf. I was drinking 3 20oz. caffeinated cups a day...so now I will just drink in moderation.

The only thing my Dr. ever said NEVER about were straws and carbonated beverages. Everything else should be in moderation and determined by what your body will tolerate.

Thanks for your answers! I went to my doctor yesterday and asked him about the carbonated soft drinks and told me that I shouldn't drink them because they strech the pouch. So you are right. But the thing is that greek lapbanders don't have enough information. I mean, why didn't my doctor tell me that from the start? If I didn't get information from the internet and had no knowledge and drunk 1-2 soft drinks a day, would the doctor get the responsibility? After the surgery they give us a paper with instructions, but it doesn't say anywhere that carbonated soft drinks are prohibited. It only says that we should limit them because of the sugar they contain... :cursing:

So thanks everyone for your help.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
