Port very noticable and sticks up

Recommended Posts

I got banded in sep 2007, have lost 74 lb/ 37 kilos , my port is on my slimest part just below waist, have lost weight and you can see it stick up, I roll over and it realluy pops/sticks up. Spoke to my surgeon the other day that said it was not a problem it just moves, and he is going to put me under local and stitch it down to my stomache on the side that sticks up and moves when I move. Has anyone had this done??

I didn't think my port would be that noticable... but it is. I was banded on 4/21 and I am down 25 pounds. I can feel it when I bend over, especially if I am exercising. It usually sore when I wake up in the mornings too. My first fill is June 11, and I plan to ask my surgeon about it.

Be careful with situps there are 2 stitches that hold the port in place and you could pop a stitch with excess bending at the waist. Its good that it is closer to the surface it makes the fills a lot easier.lBanded on Nov 14 2007 and have had 3 fills. Down 59 pounds and 55 inches.

Well I had the port repositioned/stitched so it wont move as much, had done under local anestetic today, the doc said he has put it in as far as he can, because any further i am hitting the muscles, he gave me an antibiotic jab, and i see him in 3 weeks. Hope all is a okay now, how are you guys goin?

I have only lost a smidge of weight and its coming from the spots I don't need to lose. My stomach, feet, and fingers (go figure right?) and already I can see my port when I lay back. I am not looking forward to having it stick out further as I drop more weight. I get my first fill on the 1st of July so I will be having a sit down with my surgeon then about it. I asked for a high profile port for a reason, he didn't believe me that I would have issues with a low profile port.

My surgeon made a very small slit in my stomach muscle and nestled the back of my port into the slit and then stitched it down. So my port doesn't stick up. Not yet anyway. But it's my understanding that repositioning a port when you get close to goal is fairly common. However, if I really work out hard, my port area gets sore. I also can't wear a floatation belt for deep Water aerobics, because it squishes right where my port is located. So I REALLY get a double workout!! I suspect that the more weight I lose the more noticable it will become.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
