Northwest_Nance 0 Posted May 30, 2008 Anyone know what will remove the ugly grayish-black residue left on my skin from the bandages that were over my incisions? At my post-op visit my doctor told me I could remove them in one week (i.e. today) if they hadn't already fallen off; and he told me what would help remove the residue and wouldn't you know, I can't remember what he said. I removed the bandages today and tried baby oil for the residue, with no luck. I am not inclined to be scrubbing with soap & Water too hard right near the incisions just yet. Thanks! Freedom2008 0 Posted May 30, 2008 I used a q-tip with alcohol on them and they came off easily - just dont use too much
Lunabeane 2 Posted May 30, 2008 I used liquid bandage...wiped it on and then used gauze to gently rub the residue off. My doctor used glue on my incisions but I used the liquid bandage to wipe the yucky gray stuff from my IV tape.
One4you2belike 0 Posted May 30, 2008 I used soap and the corner of a wash cloth. It came off after a little light scrubbing... Just don't scrub the incision.. ouch!
auntlucy 22 Posted May 30, 2008 My surgeon recommended fingernail polish remover. He just warned not to get it too close or in the incision. I have to admit that I didn't do that though. I thought it would be too painful if it got in the incision. Plus, I found out I was allergic to the adhesive strips they used, and I had big whelps where the bandages were. So, I just used soap and Water and worked on it a little each day until the residue was all gone.
NEWME10 1 Posted May 30, 2008 hello I was wondering if you could tell me how to get the ticker to the bottom of my posts? I went in and created it but it only wanted me to put it in Facebook . I couldn't figure out how to get it here. Thanks Susie
MacMadame 81 Posted May 30, 2008 At my Physical Therapy office, they use Goo Gone on stubborn bandage adhesive. You do have to be careful not to get it in the incision but it works like a charm and is a lot less painful than using something with an alcohol base.
