During surgery, was your band filled?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I'm wondering if your band was fill at all while the dr was putting in place? My dr said that he's putting in an empty band. And I won't get a fill until 6 wks post-op. I'm wondering if then...will I still feel hunger until my 1st fill?:confused2:

I was filled during surgery with 4 cc's. I did not know it at the time and figured I was so hungry post-surgery b/c I needed a fill. 6 weeks later I was bumped up to 5 cc's. I am now at 6cc's and not feeling too much restriction, I hope my next fill works!

I had three ccs put in at surgery and my band is 10 ccs. I still have restriction. I've been banded three months.

Doc put in 5 CCs to check the port and tubing for leaks. Once he was sure it was working right, he pulled 4 CCs out and only left one CC. So I didn't have a lot of restriction, but I did have some.

I had 3 mls put in during surgery - didn't know anything about it though until I went for my first fill - the doctor then put in another 3 mls, which means 6mls altogether - I seem to have very good restriction at the moment - had it filled 4 days ago.

I just had my first fill today and found out that I had 3cc's from the surgery already. I now have 6cc's in a 14cc band.

I think it varies depending on how much the band you get holds. But the norm has been to flush the band with enough Fluid to get all the air out. There's some fluid in there, but not enough to say it's "filled". My band is 4cc, and it was put in essentially empty. I think some of the bands with larger capacity (10cc, 14cc) have a few cc's put in at surgery but it's not enough to "fill" the band at all, just enough to make sure it works and to get the air out before putting it in.

I found out that I have the APL band that holds 14cc's. Right now I am at 7 cc's and I have another fill tomorrow. I think 8 or 9 will do the trick for me.

I was NOT filled at surgery time, but received 3cc a month after surgery. I wish I had been filled a few cc to get my weight loss going quicker. It did eventually pick up once I got a few fills.

I was not filled at surgery (10 cc band). After surgery, I had no hunger at all - probably due to swelling, gas, etc...managed to lose a lot of weight. I have had 3 fills now for a total of 6 cc's and have "sweet" restriction !

I just heard recently that when they first started putting in the AP bands last year, they placed them empty. Apparently now they usually put 3cc or so in, because they feel it helps the band "seat" better. Don't know if that helps anyone, but thought I'd share that.

Yes, that's why my doctor said he put the 3 ccs in. I benefitted in a whole 'nother way. No hunger and restriction.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
