Linda - I played the average game with myself all the time during my weight loss phase - I lost 105 lbs in a year that's average 8.75 per month and I didn't always lose 8.75 per month some months 4 some months 8 - but I would average it every month and that helped me stays on tract.

WTG on that exercise girl you are doing fantastic...

Thanks Janet, so my average in one year is 8 and 1/3 per month -- pretty darn good afterall!! That's a much better way to look at it than so many per week -- it just gets too frustrating. Did anyone watch Biggest Loser last night? If so, what did you think of the red team girl player -- she lost the first week and then gained a pound last week (cause her team had immunity) and then this week lost only 1 pounds cause she knew only her hubby's weight loss would count. I figured that was going to happen and I was kinda hoping the gray team would pick the red team to switch so her weight would have been the one that counted. But I couldn't believe her attitude when Bob and Jillian called her out on game playing - she swore up and down she wasn't and actually argued with them. Unbelieveable. Yeah, like we all know if you are exercising 6 hours per day (that's what they do at the ranch) and you weigh about 240 -- you're not going to lose weight every week -- give me a break -- even I lost two pounds when I only exercised an average of 2 hours a day last week. Who does she think she is kidding? Her comment about "I just want to have a cheeseburger and give up" really pis$$$$d them off you could tell -- where do they find these people they put on the show? Why can't they all realize what a great opportunity they are getting - why is she wasting her time game playing? She needs to just get the weight off and start feeling better and better and quit with the b.s. The Tongan guys have the right spirit -- good for them. Linda

Yep Linda - see how it works - you don't let your weekly totals bug you - you look at the overall picture..

Yep next week is your 1 yr isn't it - 1/27 or 29??

I tivo'd BL I watched AI instead - May get to watch it tonite and they have those pple on the show so that we have someone to hate ) - Who got booted??

Charlene I looked up the Beck book - it's based on positive affirmations - I think I will be ordering it - I read some excerpts - I loved this one

Oh these 2 Cookies won't really matter - Yes the will everything we eat matters - so if it's not planned for you can't eat it - cuz once you start dropping your guard - before you know it the poundage will be back - it's the fact once you give yourself permission to stray - next time it's just that much easier to give yourself permission again - and we all know where that leads too.

Sounds like I could have written the book - but she's a lot more skilled verbally than me and dr stuff to back it up - correct terminology - speak the language of the subject (something like that GS learned in 6th grade - you teachers will know the correct phraseology of what I am trying to say)

WTG Linda

BRRRR I am sitting here wrapped up in a blanket and can't get warmed up. It's not that cold out, well depends on your perspective, but it's in the 30's. I hope I'm not getting sick, I am just chilled and shivering to the bone.

Just got home from lunch with my MIL had a nice lunch and chat. More like old times so I hope if there were some issues they are behind us.

Just talked to DD and she has asked her fiance not to call her the rest of the week she is out of town and that she needs time to ponder things. He did sell his Corvette to his parents so that he can pay down his debt and then buy it back in 2 years and go back into debt. She's not so sure she's okay with that as it is always going to be something. It's not that specific Corvette, he keeps a car an average of 9 mos and has to have something bigger and better because 'he deserves the best'. He says she is asking his to give up his passions and being selfish and she says he's being selfish by taking away their future financial security and a family. So not sure they can resolve this. They are getting counselling with a Pastor and he's even told DF that this car issue could and maybe even should be a deal breaker from DD. I just pray they work it out now before marriage or move on instead of after.

Arlene, you are full of new info today, two things I never heard of. I never knew that that there was a gas in your stomach that has to escape and that caused first bite syndrome. I just assumed first bite was from being too hungry and starting out with too big a bit or too fast. And also that lifting could make one tighter. Maybe this is new info to me since I don't really suffer from either.

Apples, do you still suffer from the PTSD? Must've been something ugly you had to endure.

Julie, sorry you can't get your MRI, is paying for it yourself an option?

Laura, glad the chemo is helping your dad.

WEll I gotta go snuggle up under some more blankets maybe my dog can snuggle and give me some of her warmth! LOL

I hope DD gets things settled before the wedding. You know the saying....."what you see is what you get". My DD has issues with her man too and they are in counseling. I think it is really helping. She hasn't called complaining or crying. They were going to get married in March, but I think it has been postponed.

Well, I have found that when I eat those first bites fast and get stuck....I have to throw up till I can burp.....then I am fine. I have acid issues. Yep, I am tight when I lift. It could be related to all the adhesions in my gut.

Janet, a lady at the support meeting had read the book. She said she had postit notes all over the house. She said it was helpful. I bought the book, workbook, and some other book today on Amazon. I think one book was THE BECK DIET SOLUTION.

LOL I went to amazon too today - 3 books for $44.73 :0) I just haven't ordered it - from what it sound likes books 2 & 3 are just like one but #2 has journeling pages - and someone wrote that book #3 (the green one I think) was the best..

I don't want to order 3 of the same thing you got one 2 pink and one green book ??

Let me know - I really liked what I read about - giving yourself permission to eat an unplanned treat - as then next time you have that situation (unplanned tread) it's easier to say yes

I know for me this is so true - for the first 1.5 98% of the time only planned treats - then ok this is ok thats ok and 5 lbs later I am crying the blues :0)..

Good Evening Friends...

Julie....don't lift Mimi just to be a little tighter...lol...

I, too, get really tight if I lift. I, like Arlene, have a lot of adhesions but don't know if that is the reason for tightness. I really should watch what I lift anyway do to a tendency toward hernias. I have had a number of hernia repairs and ALWAYS have adhesions cut away with each surgery I have had. No troubles for a year and want to keep it that way so I try to not lift over 10lbs. It doesn't always work that way on the farm and I do suffer if I push the limits. I, on the most part, behave.

Laura...makes me happy to hear you are with your dad and family. Sending warm MN hugs even though it's damned cold, sleeting and windy today.

HI PHYLL...good to see your post!

Janet....I admire a woman that feels she does not need a man in her life or feel the need to be married. I just lucked out in the one I got. Pretty much have him trained now and if (God forbid) anything would ever happen to my sweet boy, I would never marry again. 1. Too hard to train (old dog/new tricks theory). 2. No trusting that someone would want to step in to try to hone in on what DH and I worked so hard for all these years. Sound selfish of me? Nope. Self protection mode.

And talking about living in the present...you have the right attitude. Can't change the past. Gotta live for the future and learn from the past. Just like our weightloss journey. Gotta learn from all that hard work. It always has to be at the base of our brain.

Linda...I will be gone and not have computer access for a week during your bandiversary. Just want to say congrats and goal will be here b/4 you know it with the way you are going.

Lori...PTSD issues. Yep. That's me. But, I've dealt with it all. 4.5 yrs of therapy to learn how to turn it off. It's there but I do not let it invade my good life. Long story...ten long years from 7-17 yrs of age. But, I have the best life ever. I'm a survivor, not a victim. I love life and wake up happy every day. I am thankful every day that I took the time to work on what I needed to. Life if good.

Well, had an icky day. I have this problem with surrendering when I am feeling not quite right. The verdigo if OK but caused me to be very nauseous. But, I took off for town anyway to finish up some farm business at the tax office and with our farm management guy. I was very lucky to not leave my lunch on my paperwork on his desk. I am back home now and going to surrender and lay on the couch. Just not worth trying to do anything else today.

You all have a nice evening. "Hi" to everyone else I missed. Been thinking of you Melissa and so happy for you.

Charlene

I am not 100% sure - I was just scanning really fast - I almost did all 3 as that's how they had them grouped so I thought they were 3 diff books - but I was reading reviews (all good) and that's where I picked up that they we alike - but again I was scanning....

Heck if you looked in my pantry you would think more that 2 pple lived in my house - I still love buying food - still afraid of starving - I have never really ever starved a day in my life - there was a time when I was 1st on my own that I remember eating rice for a day or 2 til my ck came - but I didn't starve and I was 115 at the time and don't remember it bugging me.. But maybe that's my where my free of starving comes from :0)

Apples - I wish I could push thru like you do - Nope I got a broken finger nail - I am down for the count (LOL not that bad but - ah I don't give myself enough credit sometimes (ya right) but as you all know I do have my days where why do it today when I can put it off till tomorrow - I guess it depends on what it is that I procrastinate on ..

In the past any man who showed me attention I would have been in Love with - the guy friday night didn't do a darn thing for me - no heart palpabation - he was cute - but I really think I am done - would like a companion - but thats it and nothing wrong with self protection imho - I am the QUEEN of it..

Still freezing, just turned up the heat another few notches. Got room on that couch, Apples? I never turn my heat up past 72/73 degrees and it's at 76 now. DH is gonna have a fit when he comes home as he's always warm.

Apples, good for you for dealing with the past and living for the present and future now. So many people aren't able to do that and carry their issues/problems with them throughout life and never achieve that happiness.

Linda, I watched Biggest Loser last night. I too liked the Tongan guys attitude, they could've sandbagged the weigh in last night and didn't. That being said, I don't begrudge that red team gal for playing the game, what I don't like is lying about it. Heck, the way it's set up it is a game and if you can game it and stay a week or so longer to change and improve your life, all the better. But just be honest and upfront about it. I don't think she was. However, I also know that sometimes they do have weeks that they only lose a pound and the trainers aren't all over them then. But maybe because she did that last week and then a small loss this week. I almost wish they'd have voted the guy off instead of his mother last night. The mom is trying to change her life and come a long ways, the guy isn't. I don't see him sticking around long.

Hi all, yeah, Lori, I think it's the lying about the game playing that turns me off -- but again, I still think if I was there I'd just want to lose the weight and not do the game playing. But, at least this year they aren't fighting among each other (yet). LOL. Yes, I agree, the mom seems to be more into the game than the son but maybe this will scare him into doing better. We can only hope. I thought at the beginning he'd be really gung ho and I'm surprised at his attitude - heck, maybe he's game playing and thinking if he doesn't lose much he won't be considered a big threat -- could be -- lol. You never know with that.

Attaching a couple of pics of the ice storm -- it never really warmed up today to melt anything. The tree branches are usually no where near the ground or the deck -- they are so heavy with ice.

I'll have to check out those Beck books - I'm all about affirmations -- sounds like something I could use as well.

Lori, hope you start to feel better -- hope you aren't coming down with a cold -- that's kinda how I felt the day before this last cold hit me.

Apples, you're so sweet to remember my bandiversary - thanks so much. It's the 27th.

As far as the man issues - I was married young, was married 8 years then divorced for 15, now married for 16 -- and I can tell you if anything happens to DH I am DONE for SURE. No more for me -- I'm perfectly happy and capable by myself. Maybe we can all live together when we're old with white hair. LOL. Many, many years from now (hopefully).

CBL. Have a good one everyone. DGD is here -- gotta go entertain her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
