Thank to everyone for your suggestions and help. You are all right. It is a mental thing right now and no matter how tight i make my band all sliders will go through. So much stress and anxiety right now I want to scream. But I will take all your advice to heart and restart my eating over like I did in the beginning. That should help I just got to mental get over this hump.

There's not much I won't try. Oysters..no. Escargot...yes...love it.

Our Sundays growing up sound similar. We had a family of ten and I was the cook for as long as I can remember. Standing on a chair so I could reach the counter. It was Sunday mass and then home to prepare dinner. Roast or fried chicken. Always mashed potatoes and gravy. Corn or peas or string Beans from the garden, a salad of some sort (usually rich and creamy) and a dessert. Whatever meat was left over (usually cooked 5 chickens or 4 beef roasts) was used for supper. As soon as dinner was over I would start the process of making the rolls to go with the supper. Always made from scratch and made a big enough batch to feed the family for the week. I still make a lot of bread but always whole grain made with cottage cheese now. When the bread was rising, I would start the pie crusts for three pies. It was just our Sunday tradition.

OMG 4 or 5 chickens.. There was just 5 of us growing up me my 2 bro' M & D - and my mom did the cooking most nights - and my dad bbq'd on Saturdays.. Since I'm a west coast girl - dinner was at night - I did spend a month in Tx w/my gm and dinner was at noon - I ate fried chicken everday - I think we had a pot roast once - my uncle ernest showed me how to pick out a chicken - thankfully we went to the store and got them ;0)

Thought I would make DH's mother proud the summer after we got married and help pluck and gut chickens. I was a couple of month pregnant and spent more time running for the trees to puke than I did with my hand inside the chickens. Bleck:drool: I let our neighbor boys raise them, take them to the locker plant for cleaning and pay the price. Some of them are as big as turkeys and not fatty.

We have a black lab too! She is 10 and has valley fever, which is a fungal infection. She's had it for at least 3 years now and will probably be on pills the rest of her life. She has a very sensitive stomach...always had it. She threw up when I brought her home. If I change her food she get diarrhea, if she eats anything out of the ordinary like bones, she gets diarrhea or throws up. So she stays on the same food and we change it at our own risk. She still likes to play especially in the morning.

These dogs brighten up a person's life. They are always happy to see you.

Actually it sounds like the dogs are better at being family than Lori's and Janet's sisters. So sorry your sisters are stupid and don't realize how important having each other is. I don't agree with my sisters sometimes, but I certainly appreciate having them.

Janet, hope you get through this day okay. Tomorrow will be better. As for the food, menudo is the only thing I haven't acquired the taste for. I've tried it many times, but it just doesn't have enough flavor or redeeming features to make it worth while.....hey that's an idea....I can go on a menudo diet. I bet the weight would fly off. LOL.

Very interesting thread today ladies. I grew up with a 1/2 acre garden too. We always had fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, green Beans, corn, rhubarb, kohl rabbi, swiss chard, raspberries, squash, the list goes on. I would have to weed and help Water, etc in the morning but could run around in the afternoons after the chores were done. It was a very good life. Never killed a chicken but helped Mom pluck one. Boy did that stink. I have cleaned fish...rather have someone else do it.

Had another good day today. I cooked a smoked ham hock last night in the crock pot with onion, garlic, and a carrot. I put the pot in the fridge this morning and when I got home tonight I made Soup with fresh green Beans, potatoes and ham. I did thicken it with flour and butter (think I'll try the potatoe buds next time). I skimmed the fat from the broth and boy was that good Soup. My sister came over and had some too.

Went shopping for the wedding we are going to this weekend. I really hate most of the clothes out there right now, they are ugly. I did find a blouse that was flattering and feminine and bought it. I also bought new black pants because I really don't have any that fit right. I should look pretty good for this occasion. If we take pictures, I'll try and post one....maybe.

Okay, time for bed. Hope everyone has a great night.

Eva

hey guys~ sorta a fly by.

Dad goes to the first of three oncologist appts today. He then has one Thurs and one Friday. He really wants to see if the treatment plans are the same or drastically different. Can't blame him. He is VERY untrusting of the medical profession. Now if someone changes a medication he calls two of his drs for their opinion. Bless. It's just all so sad.

I was planning on going up IMMEDIATELY. Mom and Dad both expressed concern about this. Dad said, "I know your heart is in the right place. Can you wait to come up when I really need you?" I said I can come up now AND when you really need me. SIGH. I was going to get the tickets and now it really is about having Nelson with me. Dad said he really strives to always be a good example to him. He said he doesn't feel like being strong or brave or making happy faces when RIGHT NOW.. he feels like being pissed and sad b/c he's hurting physically and emotionally. He doesn't want Nelson to remember Grandpa in a bad mood, or in pain. SIGH. So, the plan is this weekend DH is taking SIL and nephew to New Orleans for a medical conference (kill two birds with 1 trip). They will be back on Tuesday and then I will leave Wed. DH is on vacation next week. This will be the first time EVER leaving Nelson with anyone but my mother for more than 24 hrs. I love and trust my DH 100%, it's just that he has never taken care of him by himself. I know he can do it, and he will be fine. So I will go from Wed to Sun to NC to see my folks. But, also waiting to hear what the docs say this week.

Nelson has had a bug for the last day or so. Fever of 102, decreased appetite and diarrhea. When he doesn't have fever, he feels 100% back to normal. No school yest or today.

I wish I could write more to each of you. Just know that I am thinking of you. I read all the posts. Janet <hug> on this anniv.

peasout for now,

Laura

Laura...sounds like your dad knows exactly what he wants and is putting it out there (which is a very good thing...he is taking the bull by the horns and making his own decisions). Nice you respected his wishes. And, really sweet that he is thinking of Nelson's feelings and how he will react. Will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you all get some answers, and soon.

It is tough letting those little babies go when you are so used to giving them the care they need. I bet DH will do just fine and it will be good for you to go see your parents without having to worry about Nelson being bored, scared, worried, etc.

Eva...do post a photo of your wedding outfit. I don't like most of the clothes in shops either. I am not a trendy dresser. I go for more of the tailored clothes...ones I can hang onto for years and they still look like they are in style. I just buy and few pieces throughout that match what I have and it's like a new outfit. I LOVE clothes and my closets prove it. Took me no time to fill up the closets when DH told me to go buy what I "needed". There's wants and there's needs.....I guess I just had a tough time diferentiating (sp) between the two. LOL. It was fun shopping but I am done now. Have enough for all seasons. We live over 2 hours away from any shopping center so I basically just made a few trips and "Gotter Done".

Woke up with my annual verdigo this morning. Flew out of bed and almost landed on the floor. Something that happens every year about the time it freezes. I am not sure if it is a sinus thing or and ear thing. Usually lasts a few days and then done. Anyway, feel crosseyed and careful when I walk. Something I have had since I was about 15. Not too much of a bother cuz know it will leave me soon.

Was in the 20's again overnight and this morning. My guys are out in this cold working on drain tile. They were out in it till 9pm last night b/4 they came in for supper. They come home dirty and happy to get the work done that they did. Maybe they were smiling cuz they came home to the smell of Cookies baking??????

Better get on with my day...hate to go out but need to drive to town to deposit the payroll, maybe coffee with a friend, visit with my sick "mom" and take her some Cookies. Then back home...just me and the dog till my guys roll in again late. Gets lonesome.

You all have a great day! Again, safe travels to you, Phyll.

Good morning, gotta be quick, my parents arrive in an hour and a half and I am still in jammies. I will probably be scacer around here for the next week or so too.

Janet and Apples thanks for the sister advice. Janet you can be my sister anytime. I know I am going to see them while my folks are in town, I plan on just lying low and probably being rather aloof to them. I will give them a chance to redeem themselves but if it's all about them as usual I am pretty done. I can be civil when we are together but no more am I going to try and keep putting myself out there just to get trampled on.

Knee feels pretty good this morning, I slept better last night than since before surgery, just woke up once for more pain pills. I go to the doc today and am hoping that brace can go away now. And hope for some answers about the low blood pressure.

Laura, thinking of you! Sorry no time for more personal notes but I think of you all a lot!

Apples , you are a HOOT! Yep, I feel the same . I have one sister. She doesn't want to help take care of my 86yr old mother, but when she does............I never hear the end of it. I continue to keep my mouth shut about how I feel, but when mama is gone............it ain't gonna be nice. For now, for respect of my mother, I will continue to play nice. I love my sister..............I just don't like her.

Hey, I am feeling better. The stomach relaxer has helped me, but a cold front is moving in tomorrow. That will be the test. Today, it is in the 90's, but tomorrow.........high 50's. Girl, if I lived in the north I would have to move to Hawaii.

Great.........glad you are doing so good. Did you get a card from me? I hope I had the right address.

Janet, many thanks again for this thread. It keeps me accountable.

HUGS to all!

Arlene

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
