Thanks thin for the information you gave. I am doing all of those things and I just don't want to overeat or eat the wrong things. I won't be having any more bread this week. I did loose last week but we will see this week. Hey Janet, where are you?:smile2: Talk with you all later.

Is it possible to join this group? I need a mentor. I'm less than one week from surgery and I'm panicking, having second thoughts, etc.

The comments on this thread are great and very helpful.

I'm 53, 242lb, 5'4". Started at 258. I'm on a 10 day liquid pre-op diet. Hungry all the time!

Anyway, I'll continue to read and look forward to more guidance. Thanks.

Where's our beloved Janet? She must be out enjoying the sun!

Becky, is bread on your mushie food diet list? I know bread is a big deal for me and am told not to have it even on solids, it can get stuck really easy. Be careful, I know there's lots of different instructions from different docs.

Kathy, welcome. I am sure you are welcome to join here, Janet has been so gracious to help so many of us. Give her time to catch up and she'll be with you! I am newly banded myself, just 6 weeks ago. I got my first fill today and am doing great. I was nervous before the surgery too. I spent so much time looking forward to it and then as it got closer I got scared to death, that's normal.

Hi Indi,

I went and received a fill on Monday. I think I am were I need to be 1.5 with a 9.75 band. I realized that I was using the band wrong. I was able to go on a road trip with my husband this week after I had received my fill. I was able to face some truths about myself. The biggest was that I was depending on the band to be my salvation for weight loss and that is why I received more than what I needed in a fill. That is also why I had to have so much taken back out bc I was so sick with to much of a fill.

Now my head is where it needs to be. I have a feeling that I am at the fill I need for a while, but I won't know until I get past this week. I am just a little swollen. I seem to be able to eat still what I want, but smaller quantities. I am writing down what I eat so I can see what I am doing. I am going to start working out on a regular basis soon. I have recruited some friends to start walking, and I am going to be starting a lap band support group soon with the assistance from my Dr. office. Things are looking up. It is amazing how wonderful you feel after gaining a right perspective about things with a better attitude. My goal is to work toward losing my 63 pounds before my next anniversary date of July 6th since I didn't make it this year. I am determined not to beat myself up and just look at this as an opportunity to start over.

Thank you for your encouragement. I will continue to check in with you and see how things progress. Is there a way we can be buddies so we can chat one on one. I don't know how to do a buddy page, but maybe you can coach me with that.

Look foward to talking with you soon......

You will do it - you got your mind back in the game - I am happy for you and am glad you have joined us

Hi to everyone tonight, Where has Janet been? Haven't seen her on here for a few days. Today is Sunday and I am trying to only weigh every Wednesday so don't know this week yet. I have notice that each day I am now getting hungrier and hungrier. Tuesday I go to the Dr. but I am still on Mushies until next Saturday and it isn't cuttin it anymore. I am finally hungry.I am trying to get in my waters and am getting Protein in every day but have run out of ideas for mushies.I had chicken salad the other day and boy was it good. Can I have Pasta in the mushie stage? Okay yesterday I had 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of cheese for B, snack was a Protein smoothie ( yogurt, pineapple, strawberry unjury and a little orange juice). Was full until close to dinner so then I had 3 oz of chicken blended with spices and tsp miracle whip. evening snack was protein bullet, pudding. So today, I had coffee, Unjury smoothie with yogurt for B, lunch was cottage cheese and applesauce and tonight was 2 egg salad. Today I had two slices of bread with my egg salad. Not mushies but was starving so I thought I would try it. It went right down. Now it is evening and I am very hungry again. I had pudding. (Next page
I am still very hungry. Each day I get a little hungrier. First of all, am I eating too much. I am eating alot of protein but it isn't working the same as it did pre-op. As soon as I go off mushies then I will try regular food. I was scared to death to eat bread today. Am I starting to need a fill at this point or not? I will pay close attention to what I eat but I don't like this feeling of being so hungry all of a sudden. I will still have about two weeks to go before I can have one. Well just wanted to vent a little. I still do love this band though.:w00t:

Becky Bandster Hell - the time between healing and 1st fill - I don't think Pasta is considered mushie ck w/your doc - if you are going to eat bread make sure you buy the lite bread 45 caliores a slice. Again I would consider bread soft not mushie -- Just watch your calories - I am a WW girl so I do have some carbs but not alot.. When you are hungry just find low calorie stuff to eat - that's what I do or drink Water - keeping busy really helps me too.

Kathy of course - we are the same age I was 52 when banded 250 5'4 now 150 53yr and still 5'4 - preop is hard but you can do it - I called my doc and asked if I could have salmon & salad for dinner (hated the Tomato Soup they gave me) and they said yes - I was going to do it anyway - but did want their approval - I was lucky only 1 week pre-op.

But I did follow the rules after being banded ...

Long ho did the fill go... was it blind fluro did they give you a numbing shot do you have to go back to liquids for a few day???

Hey Gang - I am alive and well - Friday was hectic at work and Friday nite I was beat - didn't get on the computer at all (I work on a computer all day at work and here and sometimes my brain needs a rest)

Sat did 4 miles at the gym (oh ya great nsv out of 365 days I have been to the gym 178) came home started to try and hang curtians that I bought 7 months ago - decided I needed a drill took off shopping came home started another project hanging pictures - then Sunday deep cleaned - cleaning my bathroom (you know that invisable hairspray everywhere) washed window, screens, patio, clean window sills, blinds moved furniture vaccumed, removed cousions covers off couch and straighted - plume feathers in cushions - hung the drape, polished all my wood furniture - vaccumed - mopped - and didn't sit down til 8:30 to eat. All that without the help of drugs  Sorry about being mia - but i get on the computer and nothing gets done :(

Janet,

The fill went great. No fluoro and no numbing, but it didn't hurt. Just a little sting. She went over what to expect, my chart, etc. Then stuck me, withdrew the 4cc they put in at surgery to be sure it was all there and it was, then added 3 cc more. She told me I had a 14cc band because they couldn't get the 10cc to fit right in surgery, but it was so big they put in 4cc's so I was a '10cc patient with a 14cc band' LOL So all was fine until I told her about an ache in my right side. She asked if it went around to my back and I said sometimes. They want to do an ultrasound of my gall bladder. Someone will be calling me soon to schedule it this week. Great!! just what I need another surgery. But, luckily if I need it my band surgeon will do it and insurance will pay this time. She said it wasn't that uncommon when you lose alot of weight.

Glad all is well with you Janet, I guess you are entitled to a life away from us! ha ha Thanks for remembering and asking about my fill, that meant a lot.

Long

Sometimes I have a life and other times I don't :( I must be in a nesting mode.. Or a Manic mode :lol: - I am a do it all the way or not at all kind of person.. So I was very driven - plus I have pple coming over on Thur

Yep losing weight will cause a gall bladder attach - I had my our 10 days before I turned 30 - they still cut you open back then but I hadn't lost any weight - it just happened - hope you don't have to have surgery - will keep good thoughts and prayers about that..

Well back to work - just cking in - be back later :cursing:

Well, I have spent a good part of the afternoon reading the posts on this thread. I have "met" many of you on the 50's thread, but stumbled on this thread earlier today while just looking around. Wow! Janet, you are a great source of inspiration for all of us. Not only successful, but so willing to share your success in such a caring way. Your tough love approach is great because it is obviously heavy on the love!

I'm in the waiting stage, as I have submitted my application, records, and all the other stuff. I'm a Medicare patient, so limited to a Center of Excellence, which is not a bad thing, just a little limiting when it comes to making the choice of doctor/facility. The wheels are turning and I am hoping to be banded this fall (hope EARLY fall!). Apparently I need a sleep study, so I will be scheduling that asap. It's so great to have all this info prior to making this commitment - I know I will do this and be successful! Thank you, Janet - and good luck (or good hard work) to all of you.

Thanks JoannMarie - Yep I feel so good that I want everyone to feel as good as I do !!! Yes I give tough LOVE  but it's not like you are taking advice or support from some skiny chick who just doesn't understand what a fat chick - thinks or feels ... I am still a fat chick in my head and most likely always will be - but I know have the tool to have control over food (well 98% of the time:redface:)

I had ton's of test - sleep, shrink, lungs, heart, colon, pap, mamo, but got them all done between 6/4 & 7/13 and had surgery 7/17..

Yep I joined LBT 5/14 and by the time I had my 1st visit with the doctor on 5/31 he was impressed by how much I knew - all thanks to the info here...

Weclome and gald to have you... Keep in touch...

Hugs Janet

I don't know if anyone else has taken you up on it, but I could use your help. I was banded Aug. 2006, lost 82 lbs as of last year. However, I've since gained back about 24 and want to get back on the "straight and narrow." Looks as if you've been successful and feeling great. Would you be willing to communicate w/me one-on-one? If so, you're welcome to email me at gerrib18@gmail.net. FYI - I've kept up my excercising 3-4 days per week. So, I feel good about that. And, I do start fresh most days. I could use some reminders and tips about my daily food plan. What do you normaly eat and do you eat at all between meals. Hope to hear from you. Thank you.

Of couse...

Attached is a sample menu - I would suggest tracking your calories (dailyplate.com or fitday.com) I feel that doing so is a great learning tool and do you own a scale and measuring cups - are you eating off dessert/sandwich plates.

Protein 1st - veggies - starches if room - 60 grms prt a day - 64 oz of Water - no drinking with meals and for 1/2 hr after. Low fat - sugar free - limit refined carbs - I am not an Atkins girl - I follow WW eating plan (old school exchanges not points :tongue_smilie: Tiny bite, chew, what out for slider foods.

Janet -

Thanks for posting the sample menu. I'll look forward to using it when I'm there - 5 weeks from now!! In the meantime, I'm trying to be creative with the liquid diet.

Your results are impressive. It's a real motivator. Thanks so much for being here. We have the same stats. Hopefully a year from now my weight will be where yours is today.

PS I can't seem to download my ticker from tickerfactory.com. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi ya all tonight. I went to Dr. today and he was thrilled with my 19 lb weight loss. He said I was doing very well this month. I told him I am hungry now and he said four weeks before a fill. He said that once I get on solid foods after this Saturday that I should not be hungry anymore. He said I should see a big difference with hard food so we will see. He thinks I am doing well and wants to see how well I do on regular diet. The nutrionist said wait two weeks and see how I do and if I am starving by then, to call in and ask them to move my appointment up. I might do fine though. I am glad for this forum and I am glad to be able to get input from everyone and I am really glad for you Janet. You help me alot and I thank you very much. I hope I can loose about two lbs a week. I might go back on WW for structure. I'm thinking about it. Well just wanted to report in my Dr appt new. Talk to you all tomorrow as it is very late.

Thanks for getting back to me and the sample menu. I'm starting a new job today and this too feels like a new start. What is a "one pot wonder?" Is that something that you cook yourself? Or, is it something that I can buy in the grocery store and take to work? I joined Weight Watchers on line so that I can track my eating. I think that will be helpful to me. Take care. - G

Hey Becky - yep hard protiens do help tons - it is #1 with the band even now I have to watch out for slider foods - cuz you can eat more of them and with our food addiction we still want to eat more that our band will allow - so slider foods is a easy way to eat around the band and they are usually our favorite foods..

You are doing fantastic !!!! Keep up the good work - and don't worry about the 2 lbs a week - yep we all want that but some weeks it may be 1/2 lbs - then 2 the next then back to 1/2 and then 3 then 1/2 - be happy with a lost period no matter how small -

Thanks for getting back to me and the sample menu. I'm starting a new job today and this too feels like a new start. What is a "one pot wonder?" Is that something that you cook yourself? One pot wonders is something I made up - It's food I cook at home in one pot - I just throw stuff in and wala food for the week (lunches usually)

Example

Ground Turkey 1 Pot Wonder

onions bell peppers garlic ground turkey cabbage - brown onions bell peppers in a little evoo add garlice & turkey brown add cabbage a little soy sauce and Water - cover and cook until done - you have lunch for the week

chicken 1 pot wonder

onion garlic bell peppers brown - add slice yellow & green squash and a little corn, brown for a minute - add a can of tomatoe sauce or spaghetti sauce and then some shredded or diced cooked chicken - add a little Water cover cook til done - wala another one pot wonder.

What every you like throw it together and you have a meal - I do this on Sunday nites so that I have lunch for the week - it's all about planing - I don't like alot of processed foods - I like home cooked foods..

Also on WW you can get great recipies ..... I am a ww girl to the bone..
