Janet,

Sorry to hear about the drama. But glad to hear it is possible to work around it without food!

I do have a question for you today:

I got to add a few mushy foods to my liquids today. I had scrambled eggs last night. This is a really stupid question, but how do I know when I am full? I am so afraid of over doing it. After barely an ounce of the eggs I got a odd feeling in my chest like I needed to burp so I stopped and felt like I couldn't eat no more. However, it is a different full feeling from before and I thought I couldn't possibly be full on that little bit. I think my head is behind my stomach in judging what I should be having. I am trying the eggs again this morning and only cooked 1 oz of egg beaters and I can barely eat half before that feeling comes back. However the burp never seems to come and an hour or so later it was gone. My husband thinks I am going to be a cheap date now. LOL

I go for my one week post op already today!!!

Long

For me full is the same feeling - and yes head is totally behind the stomach when it comes to being full - last night my stomach said full but my head said i wasn't - pd'd on my fish :tongue2:

Knowing when you are full is a new experience and being full on smaller portions is the band at work - enjoy restriction while you have it..

Some pple don't have fills at their 6 week post op some do - I had a lady at my doc's office who didn't get a fill for 6 months - as you will come to realize some need tons and some don't - bands are very fickle.

What you explain sounds like you are full - What I would do in the beginning was really sit and think about am I full or not - 99% of the time I realize I was physically full but not mentally - this is why I say they should invent a band for our heads..

Just really concentrate on what your stomach feels like when you eat - I know that at times I will take that one more bite and realize that if I sallow it will be one bite too many and it will come back up - so I will spit it out.

You will learn to understand your band - you just have to be very mindful of it..

Let us know how your appt goes..

Thank you. I need someone to talk to. December

Ok December I am here to help you - Whats wrong - whats going on !!!

You were banded 12/07 lost 40 and have regained it..

Ok we have messed up but now - right this second not tomorrow we are going to change things. Starting right now you are going to eat healthy - no more junk - no more eating around your band.

Second - hows your restriction???? it it's not optimal - then call your doc today and make an appointment for a fill immediately -- Your band is only a tool and it must be maintained in order to work.

Third - Hows your exercise...

What is your typical daily menu??? What's your family sistuation and do you have any medical problems..

I will give you all the support you need - I will tell you how I handle my stuggles and I still have them - will for life most likely... But be aware - I give tough band love (operative word being love)

Hugs

Janet

My post op went great! Lost 9 lbs in 6 days! Incisions look great as well. I then went to the 2 nutrition class my hospital offers post op, one for soft foods, and one for solid. I'm gradually adding a few more things. Then 3 weeks get solids. Also my b/p is way too low and am going off b/p meds! I couldn't be happier!! Overall I am down almost 30 (10 of which was before I even had my consult but I'm counting it!!).

Janet,

Hope you had a nice weekend! I am feeling much better today and it seems (as you said) each day gets a little better. Tomorrow I begin an exercise program that is part of the lapband process provided by the hospital where I had my surgery. I am looking forward to going and stepping of the scale where it all began. My scale says 9 lbs already. I am excited and pumped--what a great feeling after feeling so down and fat for so long.

Hey Jill

Yep had a good time with my Sister and family - 800 miles between friday and Sunday - I had a couple glasses of wine - but went to the gym on Friday - did 3 miles at my Sisters on Saturday so hopefully the scale won't be my enemy on Thursday..

Glad to hear you are doing better - it really does get better and I am so glad to hear you are pumped - that's the key - keep that motivation going -

TTYL

Janet

Hi. I was banded on the 13th and I am looking for a mentor as well. Is your plate already full? If so, do you have any thoughts on where to look?

Thanks! Here is my first question(s)-

How did you get through your recovery period? How did you feel? WHat did you focus on?

I am also a recovering food addict and I would love to hear aout how your understanding changed as a result of the band.

Recovery wasn't bad - ya surgery hurts - Woke up saying wtf have you done  but after a few hours was better - next day bad gas for a minute but the last pain shot too it away -- I was banded on a Tues back to work the following Monday (Desk Job) Port site was uncomfortable for the longest about 2 or 3 weeks but not bad I wore dresses for a few weeks nothing tight around my waist.

I have been on a lot of diets programs - and for me the band was the tool I needed to help me put to use all I had learned from like weight watchers (I am a ww girl)

During my mushie stage I came home from work tired and hungry - started to make cream gravy (bacon fat flour milk) to put over my mashed potatoes - I looked at it while it was cooking and said ya it's a mushie -but is it healthy - did you have major frickin surgery so that you could / would continue to eat unhealthy - I said NO - threw the crap away - didn't eat it..

I have read alot of self help stuff - We eat to sooth our feelings to self medicate - I now think before I eat - am I really hungry (99% of the time I am not truly hungry) I eat healthy 98% of the time allow for treat about 2% of the time - but they are within my calorie budget for the day.

I count calories - Protein grams keep a food diary and exercise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
