Kasiaya, Surgery is scary for most people. For me, this was one of my least scary surgeries. I am 2yr and 3mos out from my surgery. I have lost half way to my goal. With the help of these people on this thread I keep pushing forward to the goal. You need support. Keep seeking support on this site plus go to the support groups your surgeon offers. Who is doing your surgery? i live south of Houston and Dr. Garth Davis is my surgeon at Memorial Herman.

As far as you husband goes......explain to him you will be changing your way of eating. This is a lifestyle change. Eating the stuff that put your weight on will not work. The band is a tool.......one of many in your lifestyle tool box. Exercise, journaling, support, and positve thinking are some other tools you will need to use. Please continue to ask questions. It may ease your anxiety. HUGS!

Just a fly by - I'm heading to a meeting then off to go with DH to Indian casino so he can buy his cheap cigs and we eat crab buffet. I've read, but have only gotten this far with my responses. Promise will catch up over the weekend.

Welcome to Kimberly -- we are here for you -- you live in Ohio, which is my home state. I grew up outside of Youngstown. Take an old picture of yourself and then one of you now and put them side by side in your line of vision where you HAVE to look at them -- that should help you remember why you traveled all the way to Mexico to have and pay for major surgery. You might also purchase the Beck Diet which is a very helpful book re psychological changes that you must overcome in order to make the necessary lifestyle changes to succeed. As Janet says, if only they could band our brains! You'll get there -- as far as exercise, start out slow -- join a gym (the cost is minimal compared to meds you'll be taking if you put the weight back on) and start out doing 5 mins. on a recumbant bike, 5 mins. on a treadmill, 5 min. on an elleptical or a stepper -- do that every day and increase it by 5 mins. every week or two. Then ask someone to show you how to use the weight machines and do light weights -- 3 sets of 12 reps. every other day (never do weights every day) You can do upper body one day and lower body the next if that's easier. Before you know it, you'll be doing lots more exercise. The key is not to make it some Major or Impossible task - get yourself there and tell yourself you can do 5 mins. and then do the 5 mins. and congratulate yourself. We know it's hard, but it's doable. We've all been there and done it and so can you! Good luck and congratulations on your success so far.

This morning we had a bring your boss to Breakfast day at work. Here's what the menu consisted of: Breakfast pizza, orange juice, HUGE cinnamon rolls and coffee. No fruit, yogurt or anything low in fat -- what are they thinking? We just had our Wellness checkups and I'd bet 90% of the people working here have high cholesteral and need to lose weight. Honestly, it makes no sense. I didn't eat anything -- instead I treated myself to some of my low fat granola.

Good Evening...Ladies and gentleman :)

I have read all your wonderful replies and have decided..thats it!! You are ALL right..I need to stay motivated, and get exercizing..I CAN DO THIS! :)

My baby girl just got married last weekend and I am feeling "the empty nest"...but now should be my time to shine....right??? :) I do know from past experience..and I am sure we have all been there--that once you start to exercise, it does become easier...I just need to start! I am going to get a pedometer and I am going to go to our rec center and work out, maybe find a "buddie". If not, I will go alone! I would love to keep coming back and talk to all you on here, you seem like such an upbeat motivated group of wonderful people. Thanks again..

Hoping to get to know you all a bit better,

Kimberly

Janet, That's the part I miss the most. Having someone to do stuff with on the weekends and vacations. I miss having someone to talk with. The other parts maybe an adjustment for me. I haven't lived with anyone since my ex husband, so that's 12 years. xbf and I had our own houses. probably was a good thing.

Maybe things will change now for you since Andrew is gone, you always had him around. Well as much as a teenager is around. My DS basically sleeps and eats (on his way in at night) at home.

LauraK

Laura - Andrew didn't interfere w/ me having a bf - he's not like his Dad lol - who would freak if I got a bf lol - I really don't go out much - and when I do it's mostly around younger pple and the men my age want chick's in their 20 - 30 ;0) - I don't do internet dating sites - so unless it's meant to be - it ain't going to happen for me ;0)

I talk all day at work - so week nites don't need to talk - it's the weekends and vacation time that I would like a man freind ;0)

Not sure where to post this but I am struggling with pre-surgery nerves really bad. So much so that i'm taking it out on my child sometimes. My husband is ok with me having the surgery but he's not supportive at all, no pep talks, no hugs, no nothing but stressing me out (he has many personal issues not involving me) Any body with words of encouragement please pass them to me... help I'm scared.

Kasa - Taking it out on your child - pull up those reins and take a step back - if you realize you are taking it out on your child - then stop right now - they haven't done anything wrong..

Struggling how - w/the pre-op diet. We all were scared - we had major surgery and it was only my 2nd surgery -

But we did it and all of us here are just fine.. The odds are in your favor..

Well DD spent the night at LAX and boarded a flight to Honolulu this morning. She'll be here soon. I hardly slept last night and DH just left for work so i may nap til she gets here but then again beach looks mighty tempting guess i could nap there.

Laura sounds like a good trip for DH glad there is some healing going on

Enjoy your day w/your DD

Hi everyone,

TGIF!!! If this week had another day...well good that it doesnt.

SOOOO MADE IT TO THE GYM!!! MADE IT TO TRAINER AS WELL!!!

I feel good oh I feel so good!! Did 45 min cardio in the AM before work and then an hour with trainer strenght building in the PM.

IMMMM TIIIRED!! but feeling that really good tired.

Why oh why had I let so many things get in the way?:??? I like the gym, I like exercising....shit...did I say that???

hmmm.

This is the plan for the future....

Sat night if possible is "spin" class

Sunday morning is "step"

Monday is "Cardio machines"

Tuesday is weights and strenght with trainer

Wednesday is "spin"

Thursday is shopping and cooking for shabbos

Friday is "weight" class

See above...this is my freind Sheryls sched for me for the rest of my life.....she is at me night and day to join her in these classes but never felt up to that level....but she promises that it cam be at any level and she will hold my hand each step.

I guess why not?? Cardio machines can be lonely. So if shes a willing partner who will push me then I guess.....I will go for it.

I see Sat night and Sundays iffy but if im not busy ill go...this week Sat night not busy....Sunday yes.

The rest of the week is in the work sched...no excuses. No changes....I didnt come this far to falter out now.....its time to get shape into shape.

Good morning GF and new guy- Chris : )

I need to be careful about saying hello girlies.........anymore! But if I ever do, don't be offended and just know I mean it in the kindest way!

Jodi~ Thanks for your kind words. I know people have endured much tougher separations from their spouses. But each person's situation is their own. And there are always other factors that make a situation easier or harder. (ie. My dad sick this week, worrying about that, having to suddenly be the one in charge of everything.) Keep in mind that from 14 when I left for boarding school- I have been on my own for daily stuff (food, laundry, getting my own butt out of bed to class)- then worked through college- then RN- then Peace Corps- then grad school- then NP in trauma center in Atlanta... worked, took care of EVERYTHING (house, car, computers, savings, stocks, etc.) I was an "older" bride at 34. It was tough giving up some of the control that comes along with getting married. I was use to "my" money, etc. I took care of all the bills and stuff until Nelson, then DH took over. He's happier that way- he feels more balanced knowing where all his eggs are. I trust him completely and can peek at the eggs whenever I want, but am just as content not worrying about them hourly. LOL. The needah stuff is very interesting. Hmmm... What happens when you are menopausal and no periods... NEEDAH TAKE A BREAK? :) I am trying to be funny, but you are right- absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I Have no idea what happens! lol. Good darn question. My suspicions is at that stage you are so sick of each other that you dont want to have sex anymore?? lol um. I dont know....I never learned that far ahead...I didnt make it past what happens after the first baby.....laws. hmmm. Perhaps by that time the relationship is so solid that it cant be rocked? hell I dont know. but youve stumped me. Whats the reasoning....is the explanation I gave you just a ploy for us to seperate and see how long we do this for without rebeling and saying this is so stupid. On the other hand I truly believe that this could make families stronger.

You pointed out that you once did everything for yourself before getting married....but now doesnt it feel amazing to let go and have someone else share with you all those menial chores that need to be done? How can you not miss him now??? Hes a part of you....an integral part of your life and your son! yes, of course you can do it all alone this week and do for you...but thats not what you wanted.....so therefore the fact that you allowed him to have this time....so needed demonstrates how truly you love him.

Kudos to you!!!

and all that youve done this week alone...Id have hired a nanny to help me out!

Lori~ Aloha! LOVED your sunset pic. Just made me smile. BEAUTIFUL. Enjoy. Hope your DD gets there!!! She needs to get her feet in that water!

Your daughter surely is there with you now enjoying ....have fun and oh that white sand....yummy.

Janet~ eating out is so crazy! I just read a study that even the calories that they post is usually 25% more than is actually served! Variations between locations/chefs, etc. So even "healthy choices" on a menu can vary the calories. One chef forgot it was the healthy chicken breast and already threw a TBS of butter on it, or instead of cup of rice they put two.

Yes, my nutritionist has said many times....bottom line, you cant trust anyone elses kitchen unless you are in it. Its convenient and nice to eat out but we dont what we are eating even if it screams healthy! Really puts a kink in my life as ate out pretty much during the week or took take out....healthy stuffs...but still take out. Now I know better and spend an awful lot of time in my kitchen and shopping....but am saving lots of money while im at it!! I still eat out once weekly usually to Sushi or Steak after the nutritionist gave me the run down on the take out foods and how many calories they could really have.

peasout.. Laura

Good Morning Gang....

Laura - Love the pic's of dh & family- it's a good thing he went - giving up control - I would love to give the bill paying up - Hate bill paying ;0) - I would do it in a hot minute - but I would have to see what was going out ;0) - but they could pay the bills..

Hugs on Dad issue - Prayers too

Charlene - WTG on sticking to your plan today...

Great - Enjoy Hawaii -

Jodi - I need you to help train my dogs ;0) I'm a terrible trainer ;0) they jump all over you when you come in the house...

Movies - can't help there - I rarely go myself - but the one with Josh Duhmel (sp) Leo from All my Children looks cute..

Honey, im a child trainer not a dog trainer lol. What I did learn in pausative training for dogs....that I took with our border collie....they said to put your leg up every time the dog would jump. Not to give it any praise at all and dont look at the dog at that time at all. Hope it helps.

Arlene, I love doing yoga. I am going to buy my own mat this weekend. Plan on keeping it up.

With all you do I bet you could do it now. They tell only to stretch as far as your muscles will let you, back off if you feel pain.

Jodi. That is my plan. He will come along when I least expect it. I am putting myself out there and sometimes it scares the $hit out of me. One good thing that came out of seeing the ex BF it made me realize I am ready for all of this.

Good for you....thats the way to go....

]

You should both join a support group together...that would really....help him begin to understand what you are going through and what needs to change....resistance is only going to hinder your progress.

I know that I had to go to a psychologist for a consultation before hand. Perhaps he should also go and have a consult and then go together....to communicate these concerns that you posted that you are having. It probably would be a good idea to have these issues resolved before you have surgery so "you can" focus on getting healthy.

Drum Roll Please!!!!!!

DGS got Alternate Grand Champion on his Cherry Nut Cake!!! Thanks! Apples!!! for the recipe.:)

Well thats all folks...Renee is here and ive allready eaten so must go.....Have a great weekend

Hi gang..... I'm off my game a little tonight.... some pain, but not horrible.... Just took my meds and put on my tingly cream so should be better soon.... I've read everything, but not sure I'll be remembering it all...

Arlene, WTG for Jakob........ those are wonderful awards and I'm sure he will do well with his animal, too... It's so great how much you support him.... you are a good gramma!!!!!! and a great friend.....

Laura, lovely pictures of Nael and his family.... He looks like his brother..... How old is his mother?? she looks a bit frail...... And just keep plugging away.... He'll be home before you know it.... Mine was gone for 15 months and it was hard.... we didn't do the skype and video stuff in 2004, but did get to see his face once on video conference for about 5 minutes.... And having him come home was just amazing..... I trust that you all will be fine and maybe better for the experience........ stay cool, girl..... Hugs...

Janet, if there is a man out there for you he will find you........ I had a counselor tell me once that you just have to tell the universe what you want........ He made me right down what I was looking for in a man...... all the qualities I wanted a husband to have... So I did and then he made be read it aloud at our session..... It wasn't long before I met DH..... and he had most all of the qualities I had listed including liking to dance......Who knows what the universe has in store for you..... Laura K, Jodi, and Judy, that goes for you, too...... I'm a believer!!

Jodi, that's a very active schedule your friend layed out for you..... Just don't bite off more than you can chew, as the saying goes..... What did your friend think of your new skinny jeans???? You looked so good in them......

Chris, you seem to be on a good roll..... keep up the good work....

Lori, hope you are having a great time with DD..... soak up that sun and sand..... How is she feeling these days?? Mine is still feeling poorly most of the time... Need to get out of the 1st trimester....

Joyce, when are you going to Guam again??? I'm sure they are anxious for you to come..... and you are doing so well now.....

Linda, I would have been po'd about the breakfast choices, too...... Someone wasn't thinking to not even have any fruit...... Hope Katie is doing better by this time... I know you are having a ball with Aylah

Kim, you sound like you made up your mind and know what to do next..... best of luck and let us know how you are doing....

Well, my brain is running out of power and I still have some pain..... I guess I need to get some heat on it.... Hope you all have a good night...... I'll talk to you in the morning... We have to travel 70 miles for a wedding tomorrow, so will be gone most of the day.... take care and sweet dreams.... Julie

Good Morning Peeps...

Happy Saturday....

Jodi - LOL children/dogs same things imho- On Oprah the other day they had this thing about being normal - is it normal to talk to your dogs like they are pple ;0) yep !!!

I too didn't think I could do the classes - we guess what I can and so can you... WTG getting to the gym.. Yep as time goes by you are going to surpirse yourself w/say - I like the gym - I do it all the time - from total slug bug to gym rat - I am still in awe of that change everyday... I really wanted to go to the treadmill this morning - haven't done treadmill since I joined all these classes - sorta miss my ipod and walking - I agree that after a while the treadmill can get boring - that's why I tried the classes - but now I am missing the treadmill -

I haven't tried spin - it's on a day that I have weight training - am afraid I couldn't keep up - but again - once you go to these classes you learn that you can modify for your age/abilities and it's no biggie - Like last week at boot camp they were doing all these jumping jacks and other jumping stuff - my knees were acting up - so I modified for my age and ability.. I am not going to injury myself..

I wore my DNKY skinny jeans yesterday... I thought of you and Apples ;0) -

Well not much to report since last night - my gf called was on the phone forever - had dinner (fish) then went to bed...

Have charity bowling this morning @ 10 - gotta figure out what I am wearing w/my Star costume ;0)

Goose~ Just love the name. But seriously I have some greygoose in the bar and makes me want a bloody mary or screwdriver! Welcome to the thread! :wink2: We are so glad to have new people here! Just let it all hang out- we are here to prop each other up, fluff up the feathers and send each other back into the banded world!

Janet~ eating out is so crazy! I just read a study that even the calories that they post is usually 25% more than is actually served! Hi to everyone else. Can I just say ditto to Jodi's beautiful post? She addressed everyone so eloquently. : )

I really really really am happy DH made this trip. I think it is bringing closure to a lot of his childhood hurt. I think I told most of you- but at 3 his mom remarried and left him and his sister to stay temporarily with her parents- so she could be a new bride with her hubby and not shock him with 2 kids. Well, one year turned into 17. She had 3 more sons with the 2nd husband. My DH and his full sis were TOTALLY raised by their grandparents. Maybe their whole lives spent 2 weekends at their moms overnight. They would spend days there, but too many kids, they had beds at their GP. But as a little boy, no one can love you like a mommy. He missed her and felt rejected. He felt that she loved his half brothers more. His GP were AMAZING people who gave him EVERYTHING and loved him unconditionally and taught him so much! They encouraged him to go to medical school and are the ones who deserve the credit for him being such a kind, balanced, honest, loving, smart guy he is. BUT, until this week- there was a 3 yr old little boy in my DH who needed to hug his mom's neck. She has been cooking for him (stepbrothers are all out of the house now), and worrying about him and loving on him. He has been fixing stuff in her house, filled her propane tank, repaired some electricity, rearranged furniture, etc. He finally talked her into taking a vacation this weekend to a resort 1 hour away! She hasn't taken a vacation in 30 years. So, lots of milestones for them. I am posting a pic. (she covers her hair when out in public but uncovers in the house and in her neighborhood. But she won't let him take pics uncovered. Not really religious reasons- just habit)

My heart runneth over.

peasout.. Laura

Ah what great pictures... I just love it... Your DH is a HUNK

Morning girls and TX. Hope all is well. Went to casino last night -- enjoyed my crab leg buffet (for $8) and then hit a royal flush on a quarter poker machine -- $1,000 -- wow that was a nice ending to a very tiring week. I hit it on my 3rd hand too so I didn't have to spend any money to win it. We cashed out fairly quickly and high tailed it back home. LOL.

Gotta get to the gym. Jodi, Janet is right - once you start doing classes/things at the gym you amaze yourself.

Arlene, you are being soooooo good -- I can't wait till our next get together to see the "new" Arlene - you are doing so well, so proud of you.

LauraK -- any new dates this weekend? Hope you have a good one if so -- how's dd doing these days? is she coming home for Thanksgiving?

Julie, when is the wedding? I can't remember? Is it next Sat or is it the 30th? Thinking of you and all the work you will be doing - hope you get through it as pain free as possible.

Lori -- hope you and your family are having a great time in Hawaii - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

Eva, looking forward to your return -- missing you.

Apples, how's harvest going? The farmers here are hitting it hard -- supposed to rain Monday - looks like they are almost done - our field in back is done.

Jodi, sounds like you are busy as usual -- I always exercise in the morning before work and that way I am sure that I will get it in, before life interferes. I know it may be tough for you with Dassi still at home -- you could think about getting some tapes to use in the morning (walking dvds or other aerobic exercise dvds) so you could do at least an hour at home in the morning and then if your schedule allows, you could still stop by the gym at night. That way you'd be getting at least a little every day. Just a suggestion. I use dvds in the winter more cause of the snow, ice and cold it's harder ro leave the house at 5:00 a.m. when the weather is miserable.

Phyl, zoey is just as cute as ever -- how did Earl's surgery go? Beeen thinking of you both.

Sandy, how's the deer meat? Does your DH butcher it himself or take it to a locker? YOu could make some Deer Jerky -- it's sooo low in fat.

Tx, how are you doing with the preop? You have an amazing attitude -- you're like so many of us were who are here -- we were so sick and tired of ourselves - I know you are going to do really well. So glad you are posting here -- as Apples said, we love new blood.

Kiim, are you doing well today? Hope so. Just take one day or even one hour at a time -- it's not a race. Go back a couple of pages and print out that list that Janet posted from the magazine a few days ago -- I printed it and put it up on my fridge with a magnet. Every little reminder helps.

Cheri, hope you're doing well - hope the week went fine for you.

Joyce, when do you leave? You may have already left. Hope you have a wonderful time spoiling those grand kids. Enjoy yourself.

Laura, Nael's trip looks good -- he looks relaxed and happy -- so glad he went -- it's gotta bring him closure -- you are such a loving wife -- he's a lucky guy (and so are you). He's a great guy I know. How's Nelson doing? Skype makes it so much easier to be away from each other. Glad you had such a good day at your NP volunteer day -- I wish I lived there so I could come and be your patient!

Wasn't the mining rescue amazing? I was so relieved when it was done. It made me crazy cause i am so claustrophobic -- i can't imagine having to endure that but I suppose I could if faced with that challenge. I'm so happy they are all out safely.

Janet, hope you have a good weekend. Are you going to be shopping for apt. stuff this weekend? Loved the pic of you in the "star" - so adorable. You did look hot at size 14 by the way!!!

Well, gotta get to the gym. Love you all.

Linda

Good Evening...Ladies and gentleman :) I have read all your wonderful replies and have decided..thats it!! You are ALL right..I need to stay motivated, and get exercizing..I CAN DO THIS! :) My baby girl just got married last weekend and I am feeling "the empty nest"...but now should be my time to shine....right??? :) I do know from past experience..and I am sure we have all been there--that once you start to exercise, it does become easier...I just need to start! I am going to get a pedometer and I am going to go to our rec center and work out, maybe find a "buddie". If not, I will go alone! I would love to keep coming back and talk to all you on here, you seem like such an upbeat motivated group of wonderful people. Thanks again.. Hoping to get to know you all a bit better, Kimberly
Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. Today is much better for me, yesterday was one of those days. It's truly an emotional roller coaster :bolt::wink2::):smile2: right now but I am so blessed. Thanks again.

WELCOME TO BOTH OF YOU!!

Yes.... YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Been thinking of you both.

Linda

Congrats on the casino win!!

You did such a good job responding to everyone..!! Can I just say "DITTO"!! LOL

Earl's surgery is next Wed. It seems like he is starting to worry about it. That's one reason why he said we HAD to go to the base yesterday to get our Rx reflls. He seems to think he's going to be laid off for a long time! I think he'll bounce back pretty quick once we get past the initial post-op day or two! I can tell he is getting nervous about it.

Linda, yep meeting someone today, going for a walk, then a we'll see. DD is doing good, starting to make some friends from work. Weekends are still hard for her, friends are work friends. She is heading to LV right now to take some boots back and get her Jeep serviced, recalls, oil change. She said the mtns have snow already.

Phyl, I'll send good juju Earl's way early so he'll do good. Sorry Tx but men are such baby's.

Take care got to get moving.

LauraK

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
