Janet - resort looks wonderful. I've been to that area 3 times attending yoga retreats. Twice on Isla Mujeres, once 2 hours south at Yoga Tulum. A two hour bus ride to Mayan ruins of Chichenitza is well worth the effort. An amazing, hugh ruin. Tulum ruins are closer, but much less spectacular.

I need to travel again - I'm jealous.

Julie - so sorry to hear of horrible pain. Praying for resolution soon.

Kurby - welcome. Jump in and join us.

I meant Joyce - just read this - Julie must be thinking about me :0)-

Julie - I have been to the ruins - been to the area on cruise and ex dh and i honeymooned in cancun - been to Mujeres.

I think I am headed to the shower - get dressed and make reservations..

I got some $$ from my Aunts estate - that's how we are going - I was going to use it for a face lift - but rather make memories for my family.. Even though by the end of the trip we will be sick of each other :0)

thanks for welcoming me.

i'll start with a little bio

I was 25 and went to the dr for what i thought was a routine check up. My regular dr was taking a year off for family so I had a stand in. She did some tests and wanted me to do more. I had been having some problems with my AF over the past year which was very unusual since you could set your clock by my 28 day 8am wake up call.

When all was said and done this dr informed me that not only did i have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) but would probably never have children.

This started me down the deep dark depression (3d's) path. For over 5 years I maintained a somewhat social life with my friends but never really wanted a relationship with anyone.

I met Patrick in 2002 and when we got married in 2004 I was 100lbs over my early 20's weight. i was somewhat ok with it because i was quite thin in my early 20's but i was hoping to lose some.

After the wedding we had made an appointment with a fertility specialist to see exactly what the problem was and if it could be fixed. Well apparently it could be fixed because 1 month later I was pregnant with Cassandra.

i lost 30lbs then gained 75lbs and It's been 4 1/2 years since having Cassie and I haven't lost a single pound. In fact I've gained another 15lbs since last year.

So.................... Recently I've decided to go for the very expensive Slimband/Lapband surgery.

It's a huge step and not an easy out by any means. After years and years of diets that fail I just don't have the energy anymore to get motivated.

I want to be healthy for my daughter and if possible have another child which just isn't happening at this weight.

My goal. To lose 140lbs.

I will say that at 5'8" I will look great if I lose the 140lbs.

I've called the slimband clinic and scheduled an August 12th appointment. We are going away for the entire month of July so August is the earliest I can do this.

And that's me in a nut shell - some days it's the nut house ok most days it's the nut house.

Welcome Kurby. Is the Slimband the same as a Lapband? Do they call it something different in Canada? For me it was the best decision I ever made, just wish I could've done it when I was as young as you. I've wasted many years being miserable about my weight.

Janet, the vacation sounds wonderful. I've never done an all inclusive before, I am partial to cruises, but then again how can I be partial if I have no experience with the other so might just have to do one sometime. I hear they are wonderful. I wish I was part of your family!

Joyce, what is a yoga retreat?

Eva, sorry you have to do your sister's errands. Treat yourself to something special while you are out.

Julie, welcome back, I missed ya, you left as I came back. Hope your pain is getting better. My mom has been having horrible pain issues they think due to a bulged disk or something and is starting epidural shots on Tues.

Kurby, enjoyed reading your intro. I was born and raised in Buffalo so I'm quite familiar with Toronto. Candice is in Wasaga Beach, not too far from Toronto. She had her surgery in Mexico.

Our youngest daughter had PCOS.. married 13 years before they had any kids. Finally went to a dr who found the right combination of Rx.. then boom, boom, boom! Three kids in less than 5 years! And no treatments for the 2nd two... they just happened!

Sorry guys.... I'm really lousy at responding to all your posts, but want you to know I read them ALL, and enjoy keeping up with your lives! Fire Island, etc.! Julie... it's so good to have you back!

Haven't posted an update yet on my "situation"... I knew band was kind of tight, but I was doing okay with that most of the time. Reflux became more of a problem a few weeks ago... which led to coughing, etc at night... and then apparently led to bronchitis, or the bronchitis aggravated the reflux.. Who knows! At any rate.... I was in trouble. Saw my surgeon's PA yesterday.... she met me in radiology and did a barium swallow. Her and the radiologist decided that a part of my stomach has prolapsed above the band.. no slippage, no erosion, but a bit of a problem at any rate. So she did a complete unfill. I have to go back on the 16th for another barium swallow and if the situation has resolved itself she'll start putting Fluid back in the band. She said she could tell as soon as she got the needle in the right place that I was too tight because 1 cc came literally shooting in to the syringe without her withdrawing the plunger.

So I'm feeling a bit panicky with no fluid in my band and experiencing hunger pains like I haven't felt in a long time! Will be exercising extreme discipline until this is all back on track.

Lori - a yoga retreat is a vacation focused on daily yoga sessions. Any level of yogi can attend - from "never" been to a class to experienced "stand on your head" yogis.

Held in vacation locations and focused on improving connection with inner self and improving life individually. Yoga improve flexibility and allows stretching of the body. Boosts the immune system and promotes relaxation. Unlike other business/sports pursuits, yoga expresses that what you are able to do today, is exactly correct. NO competition. You and your matt.

I practiced for 10 years after I was no longer able to compete on the tennis courts and long distance biking. The natural progression in aging.

I highly recommend it. Could be a wonderful way to make new friends in SLC. There is an amazing retreat near you called the Feathered Pipe Lodge. Movie stars go there too. I've been there 3 times.

Phyll - wow, how scary. So happy you saw a physician.

It is so difficult to feel what the correct fill should be.

We want to lose and have restriction, yet - the side affects with too much causes problems.

Hugs.

Janet, Yep had another date. Not sure this will work. He is older, had knee replaced, works many many hours & is kind of old fashion. I guess I would like someone who will be more active, he seems to be one of those that does not take care of himself, just keeps pushing on & can't figure out why he isn't healing. I don't mean to sound negative about him, he seems really nice. I guess since improving my health I want to continue being as active as I can be. He will need to keep up with me..

Julie, glad you are back among us again.

Kurby, welcome aboard. Everyone here is very helpful, ask them anything.

Joyce, that yoga retreat sounds like a cool experience. I have been thinking about trying yoga.

Phyl, hope this helps with the reflux. You can do this..

Eva, I am not a domestic goddess either. When summer comes I want to be outside, my inside gets pushed to the back burner until I have to deal with it. Made a deal with my DS today. I would make him cream puff in a pan to take to his GF bros grad party and buy the ingredients but he has to clean the bathroom. lol

Good Evening Gang....

Kurby - Thanks for the bio.. Here's what info I got when I first joined lbt from the ladies who were banded before me..

#1 it's not the magic cure all to our issues w/food - it's only a tool - You have to change your eating habits - you need to do some kind of physical activity..

This is all about getting healthy - so your diet has to be healthy and to be healthy you have to move..

It's still work with the band - it makes the hard job of losing weight just a little easier

I am a firm believer in keeping a food diary (i did it for the 1st year) - weight and measuring your food - especially in the beginning (did this for about 4-6 months) - you have to learn what a portion size looks like - you need to know the calories in the food you eat (you gotta read lables - i still do - it takes me forever in the grocery store) - you have to eat low fat - limited carbs and pretty much sugar free..

You have to follow your doc's orders to a t - you can't do what my doc says -

I was 52 when banded 250 lbs 5'4 lost 105 lbs in 1 yr 1 week - by following the rules and exercising 4-5 days a week (now down to 3-4)

I feel 10 yrs younger - have 100% more energy..

Have you started at page 1 of this thread and read forward - if not suggest you do - you will find alot of info in those pages..

Oh and Peaches who lives in Wasaga had surgery in Canada (Phyl it was Linda who went to Mexico - Karla - Kari ;0)

Great - Come - Heck you get to fly free - I have never been to an all inclusive either.. This will be my 1st - it's #6 of 19 on trip advisor -

I had gotten price for Oasis of the Sea (would have been a little cheaper too) - but the vote went to the all inclusive.

I know that neither Andrew nor Joseph like dressing for dinner - and at this place we will eat when we want - Heck they have a french, brazilan & some other kind of restaurant - dil I will be hitting those ;0) - DS & kids are all plain eaters ... meat & tatoes kind of pple and have to have steak sauce on $100 piece of meat lol

I would have really loved to gone on that ship - it's a destination in it's self..

Joyce - Yoga - that's why you look so young !!!

LauraK - My trainer and I were talking about that the other day - Hell when I was 20 dated guys 3-5-10 yrs older - but I can tell you right now - I really couldn't see myself dating someone 60 or 65 - they would have to be a very young 60/65 yr old and active - Just for the reasons you stated - I don't want to go 24/7 - hell gf called and wanted to go out tonite - not in the mood - don't want to go listen to music and drink - I feel like staying in - but I do want someone who is able to keep up w/me when I want to go ;0)

thanks for the great advice. no i haven't read through all 700 plus pages :eek: but i'll give it a shot this week :(

Oasis of the Sea - dh and i would LOVE to take a 7 nighter on her. Mighty Ships did their season premiere last week - 1 hour all on that ship and i just fell in love with it.

We're total Disney fans - took our first cruise on the Wonder last mothers day and are planning a new years cruise in december 2011 but Oasis of the Sea is definitely one ship I'd love to do next.

here i thought the "Freedom" would be our next ship - not now lol

You know Cheri, I think I have more male tendencies than the average female...I like yard work, pouring concrete, setting tile, hate housework, I'm terrible at sewing, etc. Maybe that's why I like the pen so much. So use the pen, leave it in your purse and when you lose it, oh well, at least you got some use out of it. (Or you can regift it at some future date). I'm not a big fan of regifting, but sometimes its appropriate.

Well the sister made it in yesterday. The three of us went to dinner and we are just "on hold" until Lindsey makes up her mind on what she is going to do. Lindsey and I are going to Bisbee later today to pick up her quilts. She can't drive there herself because??????

I have started working out on my pilates machine again. I'm taking it slow as to not aggravate my back more, but I hoping it will help with the constant annoyance of my foot issues. I did talk to the doctor about it and he thinks the foot problem (nerve issue) is caused by the herniated disc.

Summer is here, it was hot yesterday. I had to do some field work yesterday afternoon and boy did that kick my butt. I didn't have any problem drinking enough Water yesterday. It's supposed to be 107 tomorrow which means even the swamp cooler won't work all that well.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Eva

I Missed this yesterday Eva - Yep hot here too - sort humid today.. LOL you like the outdoors stuff - Well I'm a girly girl - I like the indoor stuff and a little outdoors every now and then

thanks for the great advice. no i haven't read through all 700 plus pages :eek: but i'll give it a shot this week :(

OMG I have really paid attention to our pages lately lol - I remember we had a thing about who was the 1st poster on pg 500 ;0) - Well at your leisure - start at page one and read you will see my long post where I was giving advice lol

Great Apples Charlene Julie have been here the longest with me - Great was like my 1st or 2nd poster l0)..

I love cruising - the family wanted this and I think it may be fun - the part on cruising I don't like is the travel time for your excruision - 1 hr to get to the beach - 2 hrs at the beach and then another 1 hr to get back -

I have 3 grandkids Andrew 19 lives w/me and has most of his life - Kaitlin 15 (will be 16 dec) and Brooke 6 - So if we were just taking brooke Disney would be find - but I don't know if I could handle all those little kiddies - nope don't think so.. Been there done that..

Ok Gang - How about a 3 dayer in October in Vegas - Who would be in !!!! It's cool enough by then for Vegas

Lets see if we can get something going - of we can plan something for the 1st of next yr..

Hi all.

Hope everyone is having an enjoyable relaxing weekend.

No. we didnt go to F.I. this weekend...nor are we going next weekend. We are going the following weekend and staying there for the week and then the weekend to follow.

I have only 10 weekends left this summer. The share was 12 weekends plus two midweeks two of the weekends are extended weekends as they are holidays so they include a weekend or rather several midweek days leading up to the weekends.

Its nice to be home after two weekends away. Dassi had three friends over and that was nice....but they have gone home tonight and that was nice as well lol.

Tomorrow is my nieces family bat mitzvah party at my brothers house. This should be interesting as my mother who is 73 has filed for divorce from my step father. They were married for 35 years. I think I posted this before. My brother who is having this party well...he is my half brother so my mother and my step father and all the relatives will be there so it will be an interesting day. Not sure im looking forward to it; going to need alot of liquor at this one. lol

Tomorrow night am going for another sleep study to see if I can get off the CPAP now that ive lost 45 llbs although when we were on the Island and I took off the CPAP one morning when I awoke and it was early...my mother woke me to tell me to put it back on as I was snoring very loudly...so I probably still need it but just lowered pressure.

Hi guys,

Didn't mean to complain about the pen. It was a nice gesture, but the principal is an older man in his upper 60's. All four of us who received one were women. It was just funny to me, as I have no idea what to do with it. If I use it I'll lose it. Otherwise I'll just let it sit in a drawer somewhere and run across it every once in a while.

It is the sort of momento businessmen used to give for recognition. Very old-fashioned. I could just picture them with their business suits and starched white shirts, the nerdier ones with pocket protectors to protect the pens in their pockets. Need to sign something? Just pull out your Cross pen with a flourish as a way to quietly brag.

Well, last day of school today for regular classes. Of course I start summer school Monday. But I intend to enjoy this weekend.

Cheri

Cheri. I told you it was a man who was in charge of getting the gift. lol

Your last day was Friday for school? When do you start the year? We end June 25th. Our summer program starts on July 1st and goes to August 11th. Ill be taking vacation the last week of June...(last week of year program). I am also taking the week of July 5th but working the last second to last week of August in leu of that week...as Im not taking it as vacation week. The nice thing about being a full time SEIT in a private home is it is flexible!! I can take off when I want and switch BOE days off etc etc. No body to check or care..I just send an e-mail to the main office telling them my plan and I never hear anything back....

oh crap..just remembered today is the 5th of the month...my invoices are due today and um well they arent done. uh oh. Thats the only time I would ever hear anything from anyone...if I made a mistake on an invoice or I didnt get them in on time..this will be one of those times...tomorrow night. lol Ill do them tomorrow morning.

Joyce, WOW. Great site. What a great thing for your husband and you to both do. Special Olympics have allways been something ive supported and gone to with several children that ive worked with over the year. What a great charity to volenteer for!!! Go DH!!!

Bubba, Im sorry you are still feeling badly..I agree make that appointment at the mayo clinic no matter how long a wait. Sometimes you make that first apt and then there is a chance you can get in earlier but youl never know if you dont. Ive worked with several children that have been told they would need to wait several months as well before seeing a particular specialist at Boston or Mass...and yes Mayo and they made the apts and after a month or so was called to reschedule for earlier due to cancelations etc.

Apples, hope you are enjpying the lake this weekend.

Great, wow...you have your whole block of people to see when you need someone!! A VET, dentist, and several other professionals. Would be nice if they all made house calls. lol I could use a VET next door to me as Im there with my dog alot!! I actually need to go again this week with her I think.

The VET thinks she has Cushins disease. Cant be sure without testing but is pretty sure. I am trying some homeopathic stuff before subjecting her to anything to see if this will work..if not then will do exrays and blood testing. This will cost around 4 hundred or so and well....at 12 yrs. not sure we should. The medication if this shows she does cost alot of money as well.

Not sure what to do about this. Shes a rescue..after 5 yrs...Ive spent about 10,000 on her allergies, skin, eyes, ears and spaying her...with paleomytry something....as she wasnt spayed before 5 yrs and never had puppies apparently. Not a good thing. She was a mess when we rescued her...had we known before...well we wouldnt have even gone to see her...but they begged me so...I did...little did I know...but you know how it is after you get them home and you have a child....that dog was to stay and no matter how much it cost well..we couldnt return her to be put to sleep. So, not sure...if this means...its time for her....shes had a good 5 yrs...and she was happy. We are hoping this stuff works...im not expecting alot but who knows? Maybe it will....im praying.

Janet, I went to an all inclusive on Dominican Republic..Putta Canna. (spelling) It was great. We loved it. I love all inclusives.,no carrying around money with all day. drinks are free there as well and well....you can imagine how that rum is sooo good. Sometimes they arent as good as ala carte.,.but Its worth the money if you have a family going with you. Enjoy youl love it!

Kurby, welcome!!! The only advice that I have for now..is start now. Dont wait till you have the band to start loosing. I waited and had the thought of...well ill be banded in another three months so I can eat anything I want..now....went a little crazy and gained 15bls. Boy that was a mistake!! It will take me a month or two longer to loose that 15 now!! So, start now...and begin the process now...and you will be ready and have allready set yourself up for life. Change the lifestyle now and be ready for the band to use as another tool not the magic bullet...to fix it all. Its work and even though you will loose...you wont loose that much and can even gain if you dont do what Janet has instructed in her post! lol. Good luck!

Phyl, I am so sorry you have had so much trouble with the bronchitis. I was sure when I had that asthma attack and was caughing from the gut it was so deep pretty much that I had slipped the band. So, ran to the surgeon as I was so sure..but he said not to worry..if I had slipped I would be throwing up or had reflux or hicups or burping even all the time...but I didnt have any of those above. Was sure he would do a barium swallow to check but he didnt.

Im so sorry that you have had this difficulty but glad your surgeon did do the barium so that you could fix whatever needs to in order for you to get back on track....its so frustrating to get derailed when theres so much progress that has been made..but youl do fine. Nows the time to prove to yourself that the band is just a tool and you were doing all the work anyways! You now are eating healty, have changed your lifestyle and have learned to eat smaller portions and are exercising...you should be fine..maybe alot more hungry at times..so youl eat more but just more healthier alternatives to the not so healthy of the past. Feel good.

Well. Must go to sleep....have a great rest of the weekend.

Jodi

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
