Hi all, Hope you all had a great weekend.

Well....the audition went not so well....didnt make the grade so to speak. but thats okay. The more practice the better She will get. If this is what she really wants. This manager wasnt looking for anyone in specific and wasnt even looking to sign anyone per se however, he was actually honest and seemed to be decent. He wasnt interested in Dassi or anyone else who auditioned so.....on with the next.

Thanks for the good wishes

So, ive got my healthy eating shopping list ready for tomorrow morning and will be a cooking throughout the day. Have decided to make the zuchini dish of Apples and Quinoa and chicken with vegetables and a seven vegetable Soup. These are my dishes that I have the recipes ready and are prepared to make first thing tomorrow...will let you all know how these come out and if good....I will post recipe for the Quinoa and seven veg Soup. Havent gotten much further for actual recipes for the items that I will be buying. This means fish and vegetables and deserts.

I was offered a banana choc chip cake that a friend made but...kindly refused. (actually adamantly) lol No, thanks. Will do without the white flour.

Jodi! You are SO busy!! Where do you get all your energy!?

My friend had no family at all, just a few close friends in NYC. She'd lived there since she graduated from the U of Buffalo in 1965. It was one of our friends from those college years that finally emailed me yesterday. Because she lived in NYC all those years, we had very few mutual friends at this point in our lives. So, I totally understand how I got left out of the loop, but still regret that it took so long for someone to let me know. She had a live in boyfriend for more than 30 years, but he was somewhat older than her and died about 4-5 years ago. He had a daughter from another relationship, and a granddaughter, and my friend was quite close to them, but I'd never met them. I'm dealing with it... just can't believe she's gone and regret not having kept closer touch when I realized how sick she was last time we talked.

Phyl, Energy???? ha....you all hear now about what happens when I crash....big time. Still suffereing with the congestion but caughing slightely less. My problem is never knowing when to slow down. Ron used to say...you make me dizzy with all that you do in a day.

Its true....but sometimes this energy is all over the place. Can make someone a little dizzy for sure. This is just how I function.....dont really know any other way!!

I hear what you are sayong about your friend. I just picked up a book that I wanted to read over the holiday this week and thought that you might like to take a look at it. It is based on judaic thought and philosophy however I think you can generalize the ideas. It made me think of you and your friend. The book is about when someone passes away, and the things you can do to help them reach what ever level of after life that they should have and what you can do to remember them every day or year.

I first noticed the book at my friends house whos mother passed away last month and while visiting with her the week after the funeral she had shown it to me...as she knows that im always looking for things to do to help Dassi with dealing with her fathers death and doing something each year on the anniversary of it. I said I wanted to get it but havent had the chance, tonight a friend called me to tell me they got the book for me!! That was so nice! I ran to get it from her as I really wanted to read it over the holiday. Needed to bring something and I figured its shavuot...so should be reading something that I can learn from that is based on Torah principles in essence...this fit for me.

The name of the book is The Neshama (soul) should have an Aliyah (asent to heaven) and the sub title is :"What you can do in memory of a departed loved one"

Perhaps this book or another like it can give you an idea of what "you" can do as you are so far removed from being in the environment to be a part of the people who are bereaving together. Its a hard situation to be in and lonely.

SO...be with her now. Talk to her now. She hasnt disapeared you just cant see her but you can still talk to her, and think about her and do things for her to help her reach what ever heaven she needs to get to by doing things in her name etc etc. Creativity. I know from your posts that you are a creative one...again im sorry for your loss no matter how physically removed you are also mourning.

Good morning!

Up early this morning- Just got a call from my Mom. Dad's leg is hurting in the calf, and it's red and swollen and hot. She knew it sounded like a DVT (blood clot) but I guess she just wanted someone else to tell her to go to the ER. Will update you guys later. Last chemo was scheduled for tomorrow, but he's doing so bad last few days- weakness, diarrhea, lack of appetite, etc.. that I don't think they would give it. ugghhh

Julie~ So nice to hear an update from you. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction. Yeah, worst thing you can do is fall asleep sitting up. Gotta make yourself lean back or lie down.

Jodi~ You are a busy beaver! Will come back to you with a recipe. I personally like them thrown on the grill with just olive oil spray and some greek seasoning.

Time to check my FB... talk to you later.. peasout.. Laura

Laura, so sorry to hear about your dad feeling so badly hopefully they can give him meds to break up the clot or go on quickly and destroy it before it moves. Will have him in mind on prayer for recovery.

Dear Jodi; WOW you sound like you really mastered the HOLIDAY by eating only what you should... doing the `visual`eating of the buffet table and then choosing wisely was an AWESOME Kudo for you!!! If you fail to Plan, then you PLan TO FAIL...

I love this quote.....If you Fail to Plan, then you Plan to Fail.....I will be putting this on my frig as soon as I get offline! Thank you....so true. I hope you dont mind that I will be using this as my new mantra!

You are doing great on this day!!!

Daily prayes and mantras I believe really help us overcome obstacles. I love the one you posted about beginning in the evening and you can start anytime..not just in the morning. Thanks for this quote as well.

Keep up the good work.

Finally starting to warm up around here. 70's this week. Hope it doesn't get hotter. I'd rather have it cool, especially while teaching (no air conditioning.) I hate sweating and I am really can drip. They say women glow, men perspire, and horses sweat--well, I must be a horse. My hands and feet also swell up in humidity. Using my hands is like trying to work with Ball Park Franks for fingers--they plump when you cook them.

OMG Cheri you are too funny!! Im sorry I dont mean to insult and be insensitive about you being hot..im sorry about that....but your description had me ROTFL!!!

Julie, What beutiful colors that your DD chose. Thats going to be gorgeous. My favorite flowers as well.

You are going to do all the cooking????? Are you crazy?? I know you want to do it all but Julie....come on thats a little much no?? you arent feeling so hot....you are doing the planning, taking care of little Mimi alot and need I remind you of the pain your in???? noooo I dont think so.

How about letting someone else do the work and you do all the planning so you can enjoy the wedding as well?

I think you are amazing and no dought you will try to do it all...and if you do thats great but please make sure that you are well past this pain first!!! yes, we all are going to scream...what are you thinking??

My name if anyone wants to friend me on FB is Jodi Elion Brenner. There is only one of me. lol

Have a great week all.

Good morning! I am up bright and early today, woke up to my dog barking. We had a great big Blue Heron in the backyard trying to catch and eat the gold fish in DH's pond out back. We think it got about 3 of the fish. Pretty bold bird. Today and 3 other days this week I am volunteering in the church office and filling in for the sec'y that is out on vacation. A friend of mine was doing it and asked me to help her, well help means that she is doing 1 day and I am doing 4. At the time I committed I didn't realize that I would be moving next week or that I was doing that many days. I've tried to get her to do at least one more day but she refuses as she has to get ready for a graduation party for her son. Well, DUH! I am moving! So I am stressing a little bit. I know if I say something at church they will be fine with me not coming a day or something, but I do feel I made a committment and need to see it through.

Julie, I am going to have to agree wit Jodi here. As soon as your pain gets better on your shoulder you seem to over do it and then it gets bad again. Please take care of you, I know you want to do all these things and be there for your daughter and Mimi, but when your pain gets so bad you can't be anyway. Moderation is the key! Don't take on too much with this wedding, cooking, baking and all that you can't enjoy the wedding. We want you well and painfree! Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Janet, thanks for the birthday wishes! I am going to dinner tonight to REd Lobster and yes I am getting lobster! YUM! DH took me to a chick flick last night as well we saw Letters to Juliet, I liked it, he of course did not.

Morning, woke with a bit of a headache and my stomach feeling funny..... Sure hope I'm not getting what DD had.......

Now, did I not say, (IF) I'm feeling better???? Yes I did..... so I know if I'm still this way I can't do all that work...... But this isn't until October............and honestly, if I'm not better by then I may just shoot myself and get it over with!!!!! Kidding!!! But you get the idea.... I will not sabotage my progress.....

Lori, sorry you have to work and no one will help you out...... Sure hope you enjoy that lobster.... Doesn't turn my crank, but I know so many just love it....

Well, better get dressed..... DD asked to have the old carpet we took out of our house and the carpet guy is coming to lay it today... It's a big piece so he will cut here and take it there to work on... I better not get caught in my jammies..... Talk to you all later

Oh, sorry that Dassi was disappointed...... But she'll spring back and get what is right for her when the time comes....

Hugs to all........... Julie

Okay, Julie, just being sure you are being careful! Just care about you and all! That's a big IF!!! Glad you are being careful and feeling so much better these past few days. I love, love, love lobster. In fact on another weight loss board that I was on for years while trying to lose weight pre band with Weight Watchers, Lobster was my screen name. I love lobsters, lighthouses and anything Maine. In fact, until recently Maine was going to be where we retired. However, I discovered, i can't live that far away from my kids and I love the west a lot too.

It's been so wonderful this morning to receive so many birthday wishes. My birthday has been one for years that has just been forgotten by everyone. In fact I did get a card from my MIL this year and that is the first in years. No one in my inlaw side of the family remembers, one sister does sometimes and of course my mom does and my daughter now makes sure my husband does. LOL

I posted this pic on FB of what DH got me for my bday. LOL This was in front of the Monte Carlo casino in Monaco there were so many fancy cars it was amazing

Good morning girlies!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREAT!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOHOOO! I love love love lobster too! Enjoy: ) (Last time I went to RL I was cracking open a claw and a piece hit the guy behind me...LOL)

Busy getting back into the routine. DH on call today/tonight. (what a way to end the vacation week for him!) Nels back at school. I am on my way to the gym. Janet, did you hear that?!

My Dad was admitted yesterday. He has a popliteal DVT (blood clot behind the knee area) They are giving him blood thinners and actually had to give him a transfusion b/c his counts were so low. They also canceled today's chemo. (obviously) and when his oncologist came in to see him this morning, he said he was done with chemo- to consider last Monday's his last dose. So now 6 week wait for PET scan. I am hoping after he gets out of the hospital that he will start getting more active and feeling better. My Dad has so many things he wants to do ...travel, go on the boat, fly his plane with a pilot friend (since he's on insulin he can't fly alone). I really have a feeling he will start doing better.

ok guys, I will CBL, time to get moving!

Lori...my dear friend

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR LORI

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Hope your day is a wonderful one and have a wonderful evening with DH. You are one busy lady lately and have lots on your plate.

As far as the volunteering...I understand following through with a commitment but I would ask to cut it back some. They will just have to understand that you are booked right now.

Good Morning to All....It took me forever to catch up with all the posts and there's not way to give you each the attention you deserve.

Came home early this morning after a wonderful weekend. Did I say it was a wonderful weekend? Weather was perfect (70's) and this week is going to be the same. DH came and joined me at the lake on Thursday (that has never happened...lucky to get him there by 10pm on Fridays, but, at least he comes...for the first 5 yrs we had the place, he didn't make it up most weekends because of his workaholic ways).

We did a lot of work around the place, campfires, nice long breakfasts together. He left early Sat morning to start soybean planting. Asked him a number of times if I could be of help but he wanted me to enjoy myself and the nice weather. DS helped him on Sat and Sun. We have a about 1,000 acres left to plant and need to spray about 2,000 acres. If the weather holds, he should have everything planted by Thurs or Friday. So, needless to say, it's crazy week around here.

Have my laundry done and hung out in the sunshine, floors scrubbed, garage cleaned and swept out, bills paid, lunch made, toilets cleaned and now need to hit the shower so I can head out to find some plants for my flower beds and get them settled in their new home.

Plyll sorry you lost your friend. Never easy.

Great...congrats on finding a home in SLC. Will be thinking of you these next weeks as you move and get settled.

Laura...prayers of your dad's speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Janet....lovely flowers

Jodi...sorry I was not quick enough to respond with a few recipes. Sorry for Dassi's disappointment. Keep trying. Determination

WELCOME to all the new ppl. Peaches....I think you posted on the 50's thread for quite a while????

Gonna start the week out with a postive thought for everyone and hope you all take it to heart....

Bose was playing when I walked in the door this morning. Whitney Houston song...the phrase just stuck with me and I hope everyone can get to a point in their lives where they feel it..."The greatest love of all is inside of me".

I truly feel you need to have a certain peace and love inside of yourself in order to get to that place where you are satisfied and wake up each morning happy. And, what's more important, you need to feel love for yourself in order to succeed that the things you do.

This journey isn't so much about weight loss as it is about finding peace and giving ourselves credit. Not putting up road blocks and self-sabatage because we feel we do not deserve to be happy. Wheather we lose 50lbs and are happy there, or, really want to work towards another 50 more, it's about being happy and healthy and being proud of the women we are.

So, that said, I wish for each of you that inner peace. Don't let all the busyness get in the way of taking care of yourselves.

Later...sending the love

Afternoon ladies, Not much going on here. Finished my house work and worked out. I was jogging on the treadmill (trying to build up confidence to run) and I got this pain near my groin area. I have been getting it a little bit when I walk but I couldn't continue my workout. I only had a min left anyway. I am just wondering what is going on. It feels like my leg becomes a little disjointed. If it keeps it up I am gonna have to go to the doc. Have any of you ladies had this? I am wondering if it is weight associated and if it will get better as I trim up. I know my body is not use to all this excercising. I don't want something like this to slow my progress. I like how I feel lately and what I see. Guess I should go call the Doc.

Happy Birthday Great.

Jessica...sounds to me like you have injured or pulled a muscle in that area. You don't want to further agitate it so you might want to call your doc or wait for a little bit to see what advice you get from our "resident medical experts".

You are doing so great and are so motivated. It is so fun to read your posts that are so full of all the great things you have going and have done for yourself. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for sharing your pics. Your little guy is so cute. He has his momma's smile. I loved that age...well...every age....well...maybe not 17-18 so much. LOL

Karen, good words to remember--about finding peace in ourselves. Candice and I are emailing each other and I wrote about what I am really craving--serenity!

Has anyone read Geneen Roth's new book, Women food God ? I think I will buy it. Oprah had her on her show last Wednesday--the day before I began my recovery. Coincidence? I think not.

I am having a good day TODAY--not even thinking about [/url] what is down the line. I can do it today.

Wishing everyone well--anyone planning some fun 8_14_11.gif Memorial Day activities?

You know, Judy, b/4 I got the lapband I always had inner termoil. I think it had a lot to do with disappointing myself...always taking care of someone else so I didn't have to find the time to take care of my own issues. With the band, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel and it gave me the strength to once and for all put an end to my struggles. I refused to let anything get in the way of it. No plate of food, no Cookies or ice cream or cake. I FORCED myself to ignore those things until I felt I had a handle on intruducing them back into my diet.

I always looked at certain foods at "bad food" and when I would eat them I would feel so bad and so defeated. I would try to "diet" time after time. I would completely clean up my "diet" for a couple of weeks and then the temptations would get to me to have some "bad food". I would feel so bad about breaking my diet that I would throw in the towel and give up. It became a cycle.

Until I knew I had some help to control my appetite, I felt so defeated. I now feel things are so easy. No thinking of food, no labeling certain foods as "bad". Everything in moderation. And you know what? It followed through with everything I seem to do. That's where the peace I feel comes from.

As far as Memorial Day plans...we always spend it at our lake resort. It's a weekend that most ppl at the resort open up their homes. So exciting because a lot of them we have not seen since last fall. We usually plan a couple of pot lucks, play some lawn games, campfires, etc. What about you?

Janet, thanks for the birthday wishes! I am going to dinner tonight to Red Lobster and yes I am getting lobster! YUM! DH took me to a chick flick last night as well we saw Letters to Juliet, I liked it, he of course did not.

Lori,

Hope you have a GREAT birthday! I love seafood of any kind, including lobster! And I do crab and lobster without the butter. I prefer cocktail sauce to the butter anyway.

DD#1 persuaded her DH to see that movie last weekend. He's always a good sport about taking her to "chick flicks". She commented on FB that she owed him an action movie now. But he came back commenting about how much he enjoyed it! They brought me a beautiful bouquet of roses and lillies the other day... the day I found out about the death of my friend in NYC. So sweet!

I went to the gym this morning... worked on 4 of the weight machines that my trainer got me started on, then the recumbent bike for 20 minutes. But I left my book on the bike, so I need to go back and get it! Or not! I have an early morning appt for PT in the pool over there tomorrow... 8 a.m. So maybe I'll just call and ask them to put it a side for me to pick up in the morning. Planning to work out after my pool time. Pool exercises they're giving me are wimpy! pretty much 45 minutes of stretching, walking in the water!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
