Linda...a true admiration for getting your butt to the gym and being so committed to exercise. I always get a pang of guilt when you guys talk about your workouts. I have never joined a gym. Just not a logical thing based on where we live. I'm active...basically just do some weights and do the treadmill when I need to work off some excess energy. No real workouts for me. Guess I could say I am fairly active on a daily basis though.

Thanks for sharing your brownie recipe. Hang onto that Flexie...you will have a wedding, etc. coming up and will be happy to have it under a dress.

You hit the nail on the head with not depriving yourself but using moderation. I get my chocolate fixes with my Protein Bars. I have quite a variety that I keep on hand and have DH and DS grabbing them for in between meal Snacks and breakfasts.

Good afternoon everyone. I just wanted to share that I went for my 2 eeks post op appointment. I am down 16 lbs since surgery 3/29. Doc said I am healing well and I can go out and exercise, exercise, exercise! I actually have been walking and that has helped me feel better. I think I'd like to try the Couch to 5K now. Ohh and the best part, my diet was advanced to mushies/pureed/soft, so that means I actually had scrambled egg today! Egg Beaters never tasted to yummy  Okay, that's all for now, hope everyone is having a great day.

OK, Girls...I have a Julie update. She called me a few minutes ago and asked me to post cuz she is absolutely SHOT with no sleep last night, the trip to get her shots and in pain. She will post again in the next couple of days when she feels like she can hold her head up.

She said the doc actually showed her a picture of where the needle went to and he felt they got the shot into a place where it will give her some relief. Time will tell. She did say that she was told it could get worse b/4 it gets better so she could have couple of miserable days ahead of her. She sounded really tired.

Let's all cross whatever we have available to cross and keep the faith that this will do it for her. She's had a long road with this crap.

Woohoo! Just did the happy dance in your honor, Clag! Way to go on the weight loss. And, getting moving really does make a person feel better, doesn't it. You are on your way!

OK...doing a product promotion here. There are certain foods that blow me up like a nickel balloon. Chili, some fruits, cauliflower, etc. Sometimes afraid to be around sharp objects cuz if I stuck myself, I would float right through the hole in the ozone layer.

I went to Walmart looking for something other than GasX which seems to not work for me consistently. I picked up CharcoCaps. You take them when you know you are going to be eating something that will blow you up. I have to tell you they work. I had chili for a snack this morning and it didn't even phase me.

A really good test of those Charco Caps, Apples, would be for me to try em here at the fart-o-rama fest. Except I'd have to be taking them all the time.

Just another way we are alike, Apples. We must've had the same childhood dentist. He'd always say it wouldn't hurt. Yeah right, it didn't hurt him. And what was worse when I'd tell my mom about it she poo-pawed it that I was either being a baby or exaggerating as he wouldn't do that. To this day I have a hard time going to the DDS. I've narrowed my fear down to the drill mainly, when that noise starts I tense all up. DH was so sweet to meet me for lunch afterwards as he knows what I go through before going.

Dang my beautiful sunshine went away but that wind is still a howling out there. I have some tulips coming up and phlox trying to bloom so I know spring is trying to come.

Karen & Lori - I'm petrified of dentists too. However - the childhood dentist for me was my step-father. He was brutal and mean with no compassion. I'm still scarred from his treatments.

My current dentist gives me nitrous oxide when there is drilling. Lori, you might ask for it.

However, b/c of that history, I take excellent care of my teeth to avoid any dental work.

And - I reward myself with a glass of wine after the appt.

I also take amoxicillin (sp?) 4 tablets due to knee surgery. Really upset my tummy this time and had appt day after fill. Won't do that again.

Hello. I just had my pre-op visit and have a surgery date of May 6. I've been working at this about a year. Had to postpone a couple of times. Am anxious. I think I really need a mentor!

Hey Cindy...welcome and congrats on your upcoming surgery. Fire away with any questions that you might have. Let us know about what is required of you for a pre-op diet, etc.

I think we were all anxious prior to surgery. It's pretty normal. You can feel comfortable asking any questions you might have. Everyone here is so welcoming and willing to help.

Thanks! for the ad.......My stomach rumbles every time I drink a shake. Do you think I am developing a sensitivity to the whey Protein. Anyway, I am up for any help I can find. I don't get sick from the shakes.....I just bloat and rumble.

Linda, I will make the brownies when I can eat again. I have found bean brownies before and they are good, but I didn't have a low calorie recipe. Thanks!

Clag, Congrats on your loss and progress . You are doing great!

Apples, I am glad you heard from Julie. Yes, you do feel worse for a few days and then the shot starts working. I hope it helps her. HUGS!!!!!!! for Julie

Sounds like you could fuel your own ride to Walmart to pick them up, Deb? They really are worth a try. We all react differently to products but I consider them to be something that is going to do the trick for me.

Arlene...I think any of the Protein supplement products tend to cause that bloating and rumbling. I'm as slim as I want to be and after eating certain things, feel like a bloated cow. I detest that feeling.

Well, you guys are in for a real treat in having to put up with my anxiousness while I go through the next couple of months of dental appts. But, it's something that I have wanted to do for years and will just bite the bullet.

I used Charco tablets awhile after surgery, hoping it would make the tooting go away - didn't help for that so I quit, but it does help bloating.

Clag, congrats on the 16 lbs. WTG! Keep it up and congrats on advancing to mushies. I still eat Egg Beaters and you can add a slice of fat free american cheese for just 30 extra calories - - makes it yummy. I cook mine in the microwave. Easy.

Arlene, glad I had the low fat version for you -- they aren't bad and have lots of Protein.

So glad to hear Julie is done with her appt. and hopefully is getting some much needed rest!! Keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Joyce, loved your car, forgot to mention that. I'll meet you in KC for a ride one of these weekends.

I take antibiotics before dental work too - metal rods in back and now my new hip.

Well, it's time to leave work.

Got a little tykes foldable picnic table at work today for GD for $10 (used of course) -- quite a good buy. DH is busy building the swing set - hopefully will be done by the weekend. Lots of work.

CBL

Linda

Melissa, is it possible that you don't want to ask DH to not bring in the chocolate because secretly you want him too? I know that is me with chips. If I don't speak up then it's not my fault cause I didn't bring them in the house and therefore, I am the victim. But if I speak up and say don't bring them in any more then well, how am I going to get them when I 'need' them? You can do this, you've come so far. Can you do something to divert your attention til the craving passes? Tell DH to hide the chocolate so you don't see it and/or know where it is??

Melissa, its really hard to stop that kind of eating. I have that problem too sometimes. I just have to force myself to stop and it isn't easy...sometimes I can't do it. You might just have to ask DH not to bring it into the house at least for a while so you can break the cycle. I end up throwing stuff away...lots of good food in the garbage. You can do it...I know you can.

Thanks for the advice the problem is I know the hiding places but we did talk about it last night

Linda, Dentist in the 50's? Nope not me! LOL Just joking, mine would've been the 60's. Just had to throw that in there. LOL I had to take the antiobiotics before as well. Your GD is going to have lots of play things at your place, she won't want to go home! LOL

Joyce, I hated taking that many amoxicillin before my appt then you are lying there in that chair and the tummy starts rumbling. I had to take 4 capsules.

Clag, congrats on the loss.

Cindy, welcome!

Julie, glad the shots are over, hope you are feeling painfree soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
