I'm writing it all down, don't want to, cause then I really know when I'm not getting the Protein I need or the Water. But I'm sure I jinks:willy_nilly: myself in the exercise department. Just came back from the hospital, fell down my spiral stairs, right foot, big toe and others. I swear I'll do anything to get out of exercise. And this is just the start of vacation week from work. Welcome back, Janet.

E60, I think your doctor is asking if your satisfied because my doctor asked that pacifically.

Bonnie are you all right? Anything broken?

I am eating mushies and if it isn’t, I chew it til it is mushy. I haven’t tried bread and am not in a hurry to try it. On valentines day I did have a mini corn bread muffin for 90 calories and it did fine. I am still feeling weak. I have always been a strong healthy person. So feeling weak concerns me. I don’t let myself get hungry, I just eat. I am eating about 1,000 calories a day. Goals being 20-24 grams of fat, 50-60 grams Protein, 6-15 grams of fib, also exercise for 30 minutes, 5 days a week.

Hey sounds like everyone is doing okay tonight (Monday). Hey Janet, glad to see you are back and had a good time. You girls look great in the pictures. Okay today I am still on full liquids (last day) thank goodness. I had powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury with skim milk B, L was Tomato Soup, supper had pudding, Jello, sugar free cool whip and I am hungry right now but running out of full liquid ideas. I got stuck on pudding today:cursing:. Must have tried to eat too fast. Tomorrow is mushies so I am going to have scrambled egg for Breakfast as I need to get on the Protein. I have had a head cold so needless to say, I feel droopy right now. No energy. Tomorrow is my twin boy and girls birthday. they are the babies and will be 23. I am going to make some special chocolate filled cupcakes for them. Can't do dinner cause of the kitchen so who knows what we will do. On the fill issue, your mind says you are starving but when you eat, you can't get much down. I am having a problem with not knowing what to do with my family since everything we did was centered around food. When we eat i can't even get my dinner down and they are ready or dh wants to go pick up something and stay in tonight and right now its kind of pointless for me ya know. Its amazing when I go into the restaurants how very much, people love their food. I mean, everyone is out to dinner:w00t:. Some times I feel bored without being able to go pig out on something ya know. I am very glad for the weight loss but like Janet says, it can be a mind game if you dont stay focused. Well thats all for now. See ya all later.

Welcome back Janet......sounds like you had a nice visit with your Aunt. I am glad that you made it back safe and sound. I had a very busy weekend as my DH surprised me and we spent the weekend in Palm Springs at the Spa Resort. Celebrated Valentines Day and my birthday which is on the 18th. Well we went to the buffett at the Spa Casino on Valentines day and I ate more than I usually do. But I did make good choices....shrimp and crab.....I did have one spoonon bread pudding my favorite dessert. I also had a glass of champagne. I am back at home and back on track today. We tried to go dancing.....but boy the music was horrible ..... we felt old. Janet do you know of any places out there that plays 60-70-80 music. We love going to Palm Springs but we would love to find a place that is more our age group to listen to some music. Your picture is beautiful......you look amazing. You are a true inspiration to me.

Have a great week.

you said your here to help so please help me!

question about restriction.

i have 5.5 cc in a 9 band

when i eat meat it fills up fast ,the pouch but i dont fill full

but if im eating things like vegs. or oats or yogurt i could eat all i wanted. cant eat any bready thing gets stuck

so is this restricktion or should i get more cc's

my doctor keeps asking if i feel full. does he mean pouch or satisfied.

would like all advice

thanks

banded sept 5th 08

E60 - Welcome !!!

Being pouch full and statisfied are 2 different things - If you have read any of my post - I talk about this all the time !!!

I will eat my dinner and will be physically full - but still want to eat - mentally I am not full - this is head hunger and it does manifest it's self in to you thinking you are really physically hungry - but you really aren't cuz if you eat any more you will bp.

Your doc is asking if you are pouch full - and yes slider foods

(yogurt, ice cream, thin oatmeal, soft veggies anything super soft - for me popcorn is a slider and so are Cookies & chips and cake) are foods that you can eat 24/7 and tons of without restriction as they slide right thru the band..

There is a reason for the band rules - Protein 1st - then veggies and if any room starches - the reason is that you will be pouch full after about 4 oz of meat - you then may get to eat 1/4 c of veggies...

Bonnie

Yep Bonnie - tracking forces you to be honest  and ya I bet you fell down those stairs on purpose (just kidding - really hope you are OK) A while back I was sitting at the computer with my legs crossed got up to go to bed - well my foot had fallen asleep - and I fell hard on it and hear this snap crackle pop - thankfully I didn't break anything - but I did sprain it...

Welcome back, Janet.

E60, I think your doctor is asking if your satisfied because my doctor asked that pacifically.

Holly - Thanks !!! You are doing good on your calories & exercise - Keep it up -:rose: and sweetheart - cornbread is bread  and as stated above I think your doctor wants to know if you are pouch full - not satisfied - hell thats why we were fat in the first place - we ate to darn much food - and just like a drug addict or an alcoholic - the amount of food we ate to feel satisfied keep getting to be more and more... Remember the day when you ate 1 candy bar and were fine - I remember I would make a box of rice a roni and I would eat on it all weekend - but prior to banding - that box was gone in one setting  .

As to the weakness are you getting your Vitamins ??? that's very important along with your Water - I would discuss it with your doctor again - cuz you shouldn't be feeling weak..

Beckyo

Becky - Sounds like good restriction to me - cuz I will get stuck on pudding too if I eat too fast...

Yes life seems to revolve around food - all the holidays the birthdays etc and you will also notice how much pple eat and how fast they eat and the whole eating out thing - it's so hard to make good choices - but with proper restriction it's ok to eat that enchilada cuz you won't be able to eat it all- you will box up the left overs and have a few meal out of what use to be 1 meal..

Missing being able to pig out - yep - I hear ya girl on that one - I still miss it and most likely always will - but it's in our heads as you said and as each day passes it does get a little easier as with each pound that is lost you feel so much better and that feeling is better than the taste of the food (well most of the time )

Well, gang - I have been to the gym twice today - 4 miles this morning and weights tonite - am charging my Ipod as I type so that it will be ready for tomorrow (NO EXCUSES) so that I can do another 4 miles after work tomorrow - I gotta get these 3 lbs off and fast... I am making Soup for dinner - oxtail - cabbage zucchini carrots mini corn on the cob and oxtail's- will be eating soup for lunch the rest of the week and getting in ALL if not Extra exercise - dessert tonite will be strawberries & black berries with some lite whip cream... No more candy or Oreo Cookies or real ice cream...

Til tomorrow - Sweet Dreams !!! :tongue2:

I was banded april 08 and i haven't really lost weight. I thought that i would eat less and the weight would fall off. I have had my fills and am at 4cc in the 4cc band. My husband says that i just need to watch what i eat and stuff. I told him that if i could do that i wouldn't have needed the band. Are you all out there counting calories and stuff?

Yes, I diffinetly count calories and track everything and take viactive chews(vitamines). I do feel better today, not weak. Seems if I drink white grape juice (I do thin with water) I feel better. But it takes hours to kick in. That is not how it is suppose to work. Sugar should flash fast into your system. We have a lot of type one diabetics in my family, juices is how they deal with their insulin reactions (crashing blood sugars). Maybe my pancreas is sluggish post op.:tongue2: Like my bladder and bowls and body temperature all was.

So my question for Janet is after banding is there going to be a time, maybe before a fill, when we will go back to our old eating more and more not knowing we are physically full(not the mind hungry thing). If so, I will need to prepare myself for that.

Janet - welcome back. Great pics. Isn't it great to meet other "banders". Actually, I'm heading to Colorado Springs in March. Anyone in that area? I'd love to get together. Let me know...

Gino - you will have the most success if you log your food, exercise regularly and stick to the plan, Protein first, then veggies, then starch. I know it's easier said then done, but look at those who are successful and you'll see that's what they do.

Beckyo - I know what you mean about eating out at restaurants. I still want to "pig out" even though I know I can't and I know it's not a good thing in general. Old habits die hard!

Hope all is well.

Kathy

Gino, I count calories and Protein grams. For me I definitely watch what I eat. If I didn't the band would do me no good. Janet likes to say that the band is 20% and the other 80% is up to us (I hope I got the percentages right) regardless if those are the right percentages, the band is a tool that works only as well as we use that tool, it won't do the work for us.

Becky, something that has helped me in restaurants is first the bill. Now that I am not pigging out on the huge entree and sharing hubby's or something like that the bill is so much smaller. And the other thing I do is look around, just look at what people consume, I do that and think that is what I looked like eating all that food and many times more than that. It helps put it in perspective. Also getting into the mindset that food is just a fuel for my body and enjoying the companionship or socializing with those that I am with versus the food. Seems this old mind is stubborn and hard to retrain sometimes, wish they made a band for the head! LOL

Well gals, I am struggling some with lots of PBing. And I know it's because of my teeth issues. I have those 2 root canals started on one side of my mouth and am supposed to avoid chewing on that side, so 50% of my chew power is gone. I am getting stuck on not chewed enough food. I think I am chewing and chewing and then Wham, it's back up. So I am being extra extra mindful of my bite size and my chews, it's helping and I did it much less yesterday. The day before was every meal. DH was getting concerned as nothing I was eating was staying down. But alas, the scale didn't go down. GRRRR!! Tonight I am making chili thinking it is a little mushier and that will help too.

Gino Welcome - Nope it's not just about eating less that is going to make you lose the weight - losing weight is all about the math = calories in vs calories burned. It's about eating healthy and exercising. Remember eating normal is what got us fat in the first place as most of us ate high fat - high sugar & high carb meals - and we didn't exercise.

Your band is only a tool - that's it - it doesn't make your food choices for you - it doesn't exercise for you - all it does once you get proper restriction is control the amount of food that you can eat at one time - but that being said - it does NOTHING for slider foods - you can eat around your band - slider foods are those that are soft and liquidy and slider right thru the opening from the new tummy to the old - Slider foods - ice cream, Cookies, cake, candy, chips, liquor, yogurt, fruit juices - this is just a sample of some slide foods

Ya if you want to eat cream gravy with rice - you might get some restriction but the gravy will help slide the food right thru the band - and cream gravy is all fat. Once when I came after work and was on the mushies stage - I was very very tired (hard day) and said to myself - that cream gravy and mashed potatoes were mushies - so I started to fry some bacon to make the gravy and looked in the pan and said "Janet - did you just go thru major fricken surgery to continue to eat poorly - yes this is a mushies - but it's not a healthy food it's high in fat" So I threw it out and had something else that wasn't high in fat.. (I don't remember what - but that was an ah ha moment)

Yes - I weighed and measured my food - I tracked my calories (for 12 months) and I exercised 4-5 days a week during my weight loss phase - I eat healthy foods that are low fat - low to limited sugars and I do eat starches but in limited amounts.

I am not dieting - I am just eating healthy - following the banding rules - Protein 1st - veggies & then starches if any room - tiny bites - chew well - I allow for treats just not every day and if I go over my calorie allowance (yes I count calories 800 to 1200 varied during my weight loss phase - I kept a 3x3 note book - but alot of pple use dailyplate.com or fitday.com or sparkspeople.com) Today I still sort of count calories (in my head) - I just don't eat whatever I want and when ever I want - it I did that I would be a Fat Person again as I could choose to eat around my band.

The saying "I told him that if i could do that i wouldn't have needed the band " is what alot of pple think - but it's a missunderstanding of what the band can and can't do - it in itself isn't going to make you lose the weight - it's up to you to do that - I say that I have done 75% of the work and the band has done the other 25% - that statement is why pple think WLS is the easy way out - but once you have done your research you find out it isn't - I knew this going into my surgery so - I was prepared - I made the changes in my life to get healthy and lose the weight and the band or any weight loss surgery is work - it's sure and the heck isn't the easy way out - just ask any one who has lost the weight - ask the who did the work - and they will tell you they did it not the band...

Good luck to you on your journey and look forward to chatting with you..

Yep - there is what we call bandster hell - the time between surgery and getting your 1st fill - not everyone one get it though - Yes you may be able to eat more before your 1st fill - but as fas as going back to your old eating - nope - don't go there you control what you eat - if you are extra hungry - then eat extra veggies - as I said above to gino you control what you eat not the band - the majority of our problem with food is mental and not physical - and darling I will tell you that for me my head hunger manifest it's self in to what I consider real physical hunger - being pouch full and satistfied are to different things..

So yes prepare yourself for being hungry (I am at my sweet spot and I still get hungry - both physical & mental) don't keep junk in the house - always have good healthy foods to eat - low fat low/limited sugars - Prepare and plan and you will make it thru

Again - this is going to be a life time thing for us - yes it will get easier as you go along - but year and years of bad unhealthy habits aren't going to dissappear overnight - but as time goes buy it does get a little easier and as the pounds drop off - you will see the fruits of your labor and that will help too...

Hey Everyone. Got home late last evening. Was the best vacation ever and will be going back to the same resort next year. Met lots of people and will be staying in contact with most of them via email.

Busy today with unpacking, excess mail, etc. Think I am caught up on this thread and will be jumping back in on a daily basis. Have missed the daily stimulation.

Down 8lbs since leaving over a month ago. Not a welcome loss but will gain it back. Too much walking, hiking, etc. Ate more than I usually do but think I burned most of it off during our outings.

Hope everyone is doing well. Take care!

I really appreciate all those that replied to my question. I really need to get on track. So what do you eat for breakfast?

Well my breakfast used to always be 1/4 cup egg beaters, a smidgen of cheese and 2 slices of precooked bacon. However, I had Constipation issues a lot so switched about a month ago to Kashi Go Lean Cereal, still has a lot of Protein but has Fiber as well. I have 1/2 cup of that.

thanks for the replys regarding the restaurant stuff. I can always use advise. Well for breakfast I either have oatmeal or a scrambled egg with a little cheese, or kashi. Right now I have a terrible cold and not eating well at all. Just got a fill last week though and still on mushies:cool:. Today I had an unjury Protein drink for b, l was Soup and s was also Soup. I am very full on that but like I said I have a terrible cold and not feeling very well. I only walked about 5 miles total last week and thats not much for me. Tonight I am having a glass of crystal light and it feels good on the throat. I think my fill is at my sweet spot now but we will see. Yes, you do have to do alot of the work yourself. Exercise is something that is very important with this program also. The tool does help with Portion Control but its up to us to decide how we wil feed our bodies. I am still glad I have the band and I am very glad I have all of you to talk to about various issues. Hey Apples, glad to see you back on. Your vacation seemed long but for you probabaly not long enough huh. Well talk with you all later. Glad everyone is doing okay. Keep up the good work.

Glad to have you back Apples - You were missed... I wish I could lose 8 lbs on vacation

I really appreciate all those that replied to my question. I really need to get on track. So what do you eat for Breakfast?

Gino - Here's what I eat for breakfast (I eat at work during the week so I need stuff that's portable ) Hard boiled eggs - weight control oatmeal - dannon lite & fit yogurt w/1/4 bananna or 1/4 c low fat granola - or kashi crunch.

Egg salad 1/2 cup made with lite mayo - Protein bar - 5 slices ham & 2% slice of cheese - Weekends eggbeaters with a tad of cheese - onions & bell peppers and jalapeno's and maybe 1/4 of a hot link or turkey polish sauage...

You can eat whatever you want for breakfast - it doesn't have to be breakfast food - heck you can have a 3 oz can of tuna if that's what you feel like - I have had 1/2 sandwich made on lite bread for breakfast - or I have bought the WW egg mcmuffins - but I take the top muffin off (too much bread)

thanks for the replys regarding the restaurant stuff. I can always use advise. Well for breakfast I either have oatmeal or a scrambled egg with a little cheese, or kashi. Becky - Hugs on being sick - that's the pits - chicken soup it really does work

Well gang - I didn't get the 4 miles in on the treadmil tonite - but did get 3 in and I was a little pooped after those 3 miles - but I did work up a sweat...

Breakfast - Dannon Lite & Fit vanilla yogurt & 1/4 lf granola (160 Calories) 7 pt grms

lunch = Oxtail Soup Well really meat & veggies 1/4 of a red potatoe there wasn't much liquid.. (300 Calories) 20 pt grms

dinner - Fish 4 oz (cat fish baked in the oven with corn meal crust) 1/4c rice - 8 asparaguss spears (325 calories) 20 pt grms

Snack - snack Pack popcorn (100) & SF fudgecicle (100) 3 pt grms

So what's that 985 calories for the day and 50 pt grm - short 10 on my pt - so maybe will add another sf fudgecicle or yogurt :0) or I know 1/2 of a pt bar - that will give me 60 grms of pt for the day :0)

Well, just cking in - going to go change into my jammies and eat and watch my soap before Idol comes on..

Talk to you all tomorrow - Hugs & sweet dreams

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
