Regarding your question about posting what to eat daily, I believe there is a thread on here some place that folks do just that. I seem to remember reading it at one time. I get in a rut and eat the same things. I was measuring and recording what I ate a lot but have gotten away from it. thinking maybe I should get in the habit for a bit anyway to make sure my 'guesstimates' haven't grown.

Lori, I have been to that site, but...it doesn't help me for some reason. I would like some ideas on what us 50 yr old gals eat...lol

Janet, regarding your question about us eating out alot. We normally eat out twice a week, the reason being, we have a grandbaby that we adore, and like to see her alot. They live about 30 miles from us, so we meet half way and meet for dinner. Every other weekend we get her overnight. I try to make sensible choices when eating out, and no..i don't eat all of it.

I want to take Mom out New Years Eve, since this is her first New Years Eve without my Dad, and then...go to the movies and see Marley and Me. My brother went to see that yesterday and said take lots of tissue with you.

Meant take her out to eat and to the movies. What are some good food choices when eating out. I don't like fish or cheese, so those 2 are out. I love vegetable platters, salads, grilled chicken.

Hey everyone (tonight Sunday). Had a good day today. Hey Janet, I didn't mean I pbd for an hour. I was stuck for a good 45 min and then finally I pbd and it came up which made me feel much better after that. Today I had coffee, unjury drink with skim milk for B, lunch was 2 small slices of cheese and a few mixed vegetables. Tonight I baked chicken and stuffing. I ate brussel sprouts first since the chicken wasn't done and now I am full, so will wait a little bit and have a piece of baked chicken breast. I am staying full most of the time but I seem to have trouble with hard Protein. I am going for the 5 day pouch test and get back in the groove first. Phyl you deserve that cruise after what you have accomplished. Thats a good present. I agree with Janet that we need to weigh and measure cause that can get away from you real easy. I have lost everything I gained which was 3 lbs and now I am back a 55 lbs off so I am happy. Talk with you girls later

Hi Janet,

I desperately need a mentor/buddy. I was banded last February and I've not lost very much weight at all (25 lbs). I still binge eat ice cream and I need help. I'm a very positive person, but I somehow can't wrap my head around the fact that I can actually lose weight. Can you help me? I promise not to frustrate you too much. :Banane20:

I'm 55 years old, I have 2 kids, and a husband. I live in MA.

b.

Hi

I am Janet and I am a recovering food addict :)

I was banded 7/17/07 - My starting weight was 250 - I'm 5'4

Today (just over 10 months out) I am 154 - size 8 pants (was 18/20) Medium tops (was 22/24)

I got banded as I wanted to extend the years that I have left on this planet and to do that I knew that I needed to lose weight.

The band has been the tool I needed. For the first time in my life I have been able to achieve this goal (actually getting to my goal weight)

If you want a buddy - support - help - suggestions - Please feel free to call upon me - I will gladly share my journey with you - the journey is still on going and by helping you I will be helping me (staying motivated and accountable) and then one day you can pay it forward and help someone else.

#1 GO THROW ALL THE ICE CREAM AWAY !!!! If it's not in the house you can't eat it - if it's your trigger food then it's best not to have it around//

You can lose the weight - I did and I am no diff than you.

Remember this isn't a diet it's about eating healthy & exercising.

What are you eating - give me a typical days food and are you getting any exercise..

You won't frustrate me :0) - but be forwarn - I give tough band love - the operative word is LOVE :0)..

Hi Janet,

Thanks so much for taking me on. I can deal with TOUGH love -- in fact -- I think it's what I need.

I can't throw all the ice-cream in the house away because my husband and kids want it -- they also eat Cookies and pies and all kinds of junk -- but in reasonable amounts and they don't binge and they don't have weight issues. I have asked that we not have ice-cream in the house and they've responded by getting sorbet instead. They say it's a compromise and it is. Still, it's here and I have to deal.

So far, today, I had a cup of tea in the morning (I can't really eat first thing and I can't eat at all until I have something hot to drink). I then exercised (50 minutes on the treadmill). I then had some 2% Greek yogurt with a handful of blueberries and a handful of almonds. It's now mid-afternoon and I'm hungry. I'm going to have some Water and then, a piece of fruit and a low-fat cheese stick.

I have no idea as yet what I'm having for dinner. Part of my problem is that I HATE to cook. My husband cooks and he cooks mostly very healthy (fresh fish, veggies, etc.), but he and the rest of my family like to eat very late in the evening, ie: between 8-9pm. My ideal dinner time is 5-6pm or so. If I don't eat by then, I get famished and I make unhealthy choices.

So, that's a little bit about me. When you make your "one pot," meals -- how do you make them? Do you just throw everything together in one pan -- all at the same time? How do you do it?

Again, thanks for taking me on.

Bonnie, don't you eat lunch? I take it that the yogurt was for Breakfast or in the morning, an dthen you said you were having a cheese stick and fruit in the afternon. Bonnie - I guess I am lucky my GS who lives with me likes stuff I don't like - like chip ahoy Cookies - vanilla ice cream.

If you like ice cream - buy healthy choice fudgecicles 80 calories for One Bar - SF Jello dark choc puddings 60 c per- these are the things that I eat - I have also found breyer sf ice cream 1/2 c 80 calories for vanilla - but here you have to measure - thats why I like the ice cream bars.. Buy sobert that you don't like - put it in the back of the freezer so you don't have to see.

Tell your family that food is your DRUG of choice - would they keep a bottle of booze on the counter if you were an alcoholic??? It's no diff for us - they have to understand that we are addicted to food ..

Sounds like you have restriction - well at least in the mornings. How is it throughout the rest of the day - besides slider foods (ie ice cream)

How much Protein in that yogurt - how many calories - I looked it up it could be 130 for only 1/2 cup then you add fruit - 25 - Nuts could be as much as 170 depending on the size of your hand:lol: 7 calories per nut... lunch really should be something more substantial - than fruit & cheese - again need to up the protein.. suppose to have minimum 60 grams a day..

As to dinner - can't you eat when you want ?? I know it's about family - but again - this is about you too and you are important and should be able to eat when you want - or you could adjust your Snacks so that you have one around 5-6 when you are hungry and then that could tide you over till dinner with the rest of the family or if you want to sit with them during their dinner and visit - you could make yourself a little salad - or just eat veggies with them since you ate your dinner at 5 or 6.

You all have to be flexible and think outside the box here - if your optimal eating schedule would be Breakfast around 10 a.m. (200 calories) lunch around 1-2 (200 calories)- snack around 5-6 (150 calories) - dinner 8-9 (300-400 calories) - night snack (150 calories) that totals 1000-1100 calories in a day. During my weight loss phase I ate between 800 - 1200 calories a day and varied them.

Or you could have your dinner around 5-6 - then a budget healthy snack - like what ever veggies your DH cooked for dinner to eat with them while they are eating their dinner.

One pot wonder - I sauté onion, bell peppers, jalapeño in a little olive oil till tender add meat cook till browned - add rice or red potato & veggies - 1 can of Tomato sauce a little Water - garlic salt & pepper and cook until done...

Are you keeping a food diary - Dailyplate.com or fitday.com are both good sites - it is prove that pple who keep food diaries do better than the pple who don't - I kept my food diary for the 1st yr.. I lost 100 lbs in 1 yr 1 week..

You are doing great on the exercise :frown:- how many miles did you get in that 50 minutes - at what speed are you walking - have you been exercising since your surgery...

How many days aweek do you exercise.

You need to eat to keep your metabolism going... You can't starve yourself - You just need to focus on eating healthy cutting out as much sugar and refined carbs that you can..

I eat a little carbs/starch and pretty much stay away from candy cookies etc - I eat sf treats 99% of the time. And no unplanned treats - I plan plan plan...

So sit down write out a weeks menu - and stick to it as best you can - it's not about dieting but eating healthy within your calorie budget..

Like I said I follow a WW type eating plan which imho is the most balanced of all the eating programs out there as you get a little of everything even treats !!!- I don't count point but did count calories...

Hi Janet,

A large part of my problem is that I don't work outside of the house and therefore, I tend to sleep late. I am not a morning person! Of course, when my kids were younger, I had to get up early to get them on their way, but I don't have to do that anymore, so I can sleep 'till I want. And I do. And it's not good. In any case, this morning, I had my tea at around 10:30am, then I did my exercise from 10:30-11:30am or so, and then I first ate "breakfast," (yogurt, fruit, nuts), around noon or a little thereafter. So, I really only eat two meals a day -- but I get famished at around 4pm -- and that's when my cravings for junk are the worst. I don't eat any starch except for an occasional white or sweet potato and I'm okay with that. Sweets are my downfall. I'm really hungry as I write. I had turkey and veggies for dinner at 7pm and it's now almost 11pm and I'm starving. I'll stay away from the food, however. But I am hungry. I think I'm filled enough -- I have 7.1 ccs in a 10 cc band. I can't eat chicken for the most part -- I throw it up. Some foods make me feel full quite fast and others not so much. I'm terrible at counting calories -- I'm a disorganized artist type and details are my nemesis. I'm amazed at how you know caloric values and all that. I'm totally dumb when it comes to that kind of stuff. I need to get a new printer (mine just broke), so that I can print off all of your suggestions for snack foods, etc. I've got to get to the point where food becomes fuel and being healthy becomes my #1 priority. Having not lost very much in a year is making me depressed.

Thanks for being here for me. You can't imagine how much I appreciate it.

bonnie

Bonnie, don't you eat lunch? I take it that the yogurt was for breakfast or in the morning, an dthen you said you were having a cheese stick and fruit in the afternon. I think you need more for lunch, especially in the form of hard Protein. That will also help you not get so hungry before dinner, especially if dinner is that late. I like to eat about 5 or 6 too and it throws me off if we have to eat late for some reason. Welcome, by the way!!

Becky - you had a light food day today... I will have one of those frozen meals every now and then too - not often but just sometimes...

As far as feeling and looking thin - Heck I look in the mirror and some day I say omg you are still fat - but heck I can't be fat - I am in a 4 or 6 pants - that part of your brain is never going to change - somedays you are going to see a fat person - but remember you aren't you are losing - since you havent updated your ticker -it's not showing anymore how much more to you have to go to goal..

You have lost 55 lbs so far that's great in 6 months - be patient it will come and again even when you are a size 6 you will on some days still see that 200+ in the mirror.. So don't sweat it ok GF - You are doing GREAT - I am really proud of you -

Well it's 8:10 - I gotta go cook my fish - having fish - collard greens & a little rice

Talk to you all tomorrow - Sweet Dreams - Hugs & Love Janet

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
