Cheetos anyone?

Recommended Posts

At 55 yrs, I should not have such an obsession with Cheetos! Anyone have a suggestion on a replacement? Hopefully with a lower fat content.

After 1 yr being banded, I am 1/3 of my way to my goal, and I am happy and still leanring the best things/ways to eat. All suggestions are welcome! Happy to join this forum! :wink2:

Have you tried the cheese soy crisps?

Oh..and is the mexican tuber Yucca, Jicama, or Sunchoke? I love them all. The Yucca is a starch.

Jack,

Jicama??

I just wrote on another thread that I snack on Fiber One Cereal, a mixture of the original (sawdust sticks) and Caramel Delight, which are little squares and quite tasty. That satisfies my desire for crunchies. It definitely isn't Cheetos, but then, it doesn't turn me orange either . . .

Jack I love the way you say things, it really cheers me up. I guess if you have to have cheetos at least get the 100 calorie baked cheetos and try them. Good luck --still waiting on surgery date:confused2:

I love cheetos too! The baked ones are good. I'll be honest - I deny myself nothing. In moderation and occassionally is fine with me and my doctor. I buy the big bag of baked cheetos. My kids love them too and I'd much rather they eat them than the regular kind. However, I divy mine out into zip lock bags and have my own "shelf" in the pantry. That way I stop when I need to. They are "empty" and go right through the band. The zip locks help me on my Portion Control and it is cheaper than buying the individual bags.

I'm with you. There is something about that salty, crunchy, cheesy treat that just tastes so good...but monderation is the key.

Out of sight, out of mind works for me. I find that if I can pass them up in the grocery aisle, I don't think about them. But, the other day at a lunch meeting, I did eat a 'snack bag' of SunChips cheddar, thinking they were healthier. Sure, they tasted good, but didn't satisfy my hunger. They COST me like 230 calories (lots of fat), and then I couldn't eat something else that would be heathy and satisfy my hunger.

So if it's cheetos you're craving, by all means have some (baked preferabley).

BTW - I like Twinkies too...and other chemical laden junk foods...and when it's one of these addicting snack foods I crave, no snow pea, beet or mushroom will do the trick!!!

But I'm happy to say, I can walk away from these 'junk' foods now, when I've got a good fill and I'm not feeling hungry 24/7. I believe that's the beauty of having the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
