First 24 hours after my surgery

Recommended Posts

Well it's been 24 hours since my surgery. When I woke up, the gas pain for about one and half hours was a killer. They said it would pass, and it did, but I was not ready for that. Then they tell me that men get it more than women, Great. Any way, all and all it was a ruff day, but I got through it. Today, much better. Everything is just tender.

The best part is that "I did it". A new chapter. :wink2:

Congrats, Greg! And it looks like you'd already made a great start on it.

With the gas pain, you'll be amazed by how much walking helps. YOu might not feel like it now, but just getting up and walking will help the gas pain, plus burn calories - you'll feel a lot better for it.

Well, I will say, It's been harder than I thought it would be. Where the port is, hurts when I got out of my chair or bed. The stomach is starting to hurt today. It's like it stiff, from healing. I feel like a 90 year old man. I know it will get better, and I do not have any regrets. But I can say it's not a walk in the park. Tonight I take my first shower after surgery. Doc told me to take off the first layer band aid after the shower.

Don't worry, greg - the first 48 are the worst. Gradually your full function will come back. Clutch a pillow to your abdomen when you're getting out of bed or up out of a chair - that sometimes helps. But try to walk as much as you can. I was pretty damn creaky for the first few days, but it eases quickly, and the more you move, the more you realize you CAN move, and the better you feel.

.....I mean 72 hours.....I will try the pillow. I think it might work. Plus I'm going to try to walk more. Took the band aids off last night, after my shower. I thought it would hurt, but it did not. I'm glad they are off. The big band aids were pulling my skin when I would move. The band aids under look good. The port area seems a little swollen, but I'm sure its normal. Still stiff. Only feel like a 80 year old man now. LOL.:(

It does gets better (easier) with every passing day. I was uncomfortable (no pain) for a week or two after surgery. Probably just "aware" and trying to be carefull. I couldn't sleep on my side for a while - think about 10 days or so - and that was the most bothersome. In hindsight, it was a blink of the eye, and everything now feels great, losing weight and gaining control back..

Thanks. Music to my ears. It is getting easier, but the port area still hurts when getting up. It's hard as a rock. The nurse told me that it will be hard for 4 to 5 months, wow.

I'm O.K. The port is still tender when I pull myself up. I'm into mushy foods now. Blending the heck out of my food. Quoting Mater from the movie Cars. "I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park":biggrin2:

Great! These liquid/mushy days are great weight loss days, but you'll feel altogether more human once you can eat grown-up food...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
