I am on DAY ONE of Optifast pre-op diet. In fact - it has beenb 2 hours since my first shake. Loved it, but now my stomach is GROWLING and I am panicking that i won't be able to do this. Just want to pop some Herbal dexatrim or some old phentermine I still have. Is there is medical reason not to???? How about after the surgery when I am waiting for fills?

I read here that someone's surgery was cancelled while she was on the table because she had taken phentermine before her surgery--can cause heart problems under anesthesia. You don't want that!

Try to stick it out. I did Optifast for 14 days and it does get easier. Add broth, sf Jello and sf popsicles to your diet. And Water and crystal lite will help too!

You should ask your doctor about that...while it makes sense it may interfere with your surgery.

Phentermine is potent. I took it several times before having lap band surgery...only to gain all my weight and then some when I would go off it. It made me extremely moody and my heart would race. It made me really jittery to. I would not recommend taking it if you are trying to have lap band. Stick to your diet and consult your dr. before taking any type of diet pills. Good luck to you!

Nooooo, don't do that! Try drinking more Water, or SF popsicle or Jello if thats allowed. I have 3 days left on my pre-op diet and yes, its hard. Maybe you can call your dietician to see what else they allow. I doubt they will approve of you taking pills. Hang in there, we can do this!:wink2:

plz don't take it because another person on the board had to have their procedure r/s because she was taking phentermine, I was taking it too, but i learned from her and i didn't want to have mine r/s so i stop taking it.. She said it was due to the ansteologist (sp) someone had went into cardiac arrest and they wont do it because it will elivate your heart rate and they wont risk it...

My doctor has me on Wellbutrin to help with cravings. It does seem to be helping but then it really isn't a diet pill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
