Hi everyone! After 6 months of jumping through hoops I'm going to have surgery on June 3. I'm not nervous about the surgery, however this evening I became very depressed. I have read other posts about people who start "grieving" about giving up their eating habits, and I thought that was absurd, but now I'm one of them. I'll snap out of it, but for now I'm just pretty mopey. I have almost 200 to lose, so I'm in this for the long haul.

Send some positive energy my way on Tuesday morning - for me AND my MD!

Hi, I was banded in Spring, 2007. Have lost 47 lbs. You will grieve about not eating the same way. I did, for sure. However, this passes. I am very happy now because the "food monkey" is finally off my back. I was miserable eating, miserable dieting...never content and ALWAYS obsessed about food. Now, I do more things that I couldn't. Like fit comfortably in an airline seat and have the seat belt fit , snorkel, wear a bathing suit and don't have people staring at me, sit in any chair, get up easily, wear clothes from Coldwater Creek and Talbots, look good in pictures, get compliments, breathe easily, don't

sweat too much, have energy! So, go ahead and grieve. Have a good cry. It will pass. Then ask yourself if you are truly happy with your life the way it is. If so, don't have the Lap Band surgery. One more thing. I had 16 people for Thanksgiving last fall. A real New England feast. The three stuffings, 22 lb. turkey, pies, veggie side dishes, the whole nine yards. I ate on a salad plate and enjoyed bits of everything. Was totally satisfied. A good lesson. You will be so happy that you have done this. Good Luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
