The band also takes care of "head hunger" because you can only eat a couple of bites of whatever you're hungry for! I know this sounds crazy because right now a couple of bites is nothing to you, but after being banded it is plenty to solve a craving. I couldn't imagine, either, but you are totally satisfied with just a little bit of food. It is so freeing to say goodbye to dieting!

I was banded 9/14 and have lost 54 pounds. Do it. It's the BEST thing I've ever done for myself, and as a mother of 4 boys, I know it's hard to do things for yourself without guilt! If my insurance had paid for it, I would have NO regrets, but as it was, I am paying (still!), but am SO glad I did it!

I am also a military wife and had my surgery completed at the Air Force Academy here in the Springs. My husband told me a couple of weeks ago that Tri-Care finally has approved the surgery and fills. I know what you mean about the seat belts, I would not ride anything at Disney World two years ago, I also was at the end of the seatbelt for the airlines and was going to have to ask for an extension. Like you, I do not want to be skinny just healthy and able to live a long and healthy life.

I have no photos also except for the one that my principal made me take for the year book and I am SOOOOOO over weight in the picture. I am now glad to have that photo - it keeps me in check when I am stressed and want to eat just to eat. Lap band has changed my life in such a positive way - I will never go back to the way I was. Hang in there!!! I am here if you need support.

I eat basicly regular food. I eat my Protein first then vegies, then carbs last. I eat only a small amount therefore, I eat very little carbs. I may only eat carbs once a day if that. Food texture and moisture dictate my diet. Foods like steak, dry beef and chicken give me a problem. So I eat then very slowly. I eat mostly fish and chicken (moist) with some pork and beef. I also eat some cheese and cottage cheese. I find regular sold foods and protien keep me satified longer.

I had the lap band done last July . I am just not losing very much not even 50 lbs. I am so discouraged my dr. says you must be eating to much but i am not . I throw up alot because food gets stuck. the band is tight and i can deal with the throwing up but want to lose more . I dont get alot of excersise because i need a total need replacement and cant walk much do to severe pain can anyone suggest something to help me

Hi,

Have you tried a support group to help you? I would write down all you eat, maybe the calories are to high you are consuming, try eating Protein first, then veggies and if you have to then carbs. I join a support group, it has open my eyes, I now see what I'm eating, amounts, when I turn to food. I now drink over 64 oz of Water daily, it help you feel full. I haven't exercises either but the doctor wants me to and I need to, just don't no why I don't. :cursing:

Hey there Jaime. I am from south Georgia too (Moultrie). I was banded by Dr. Bagnato in Albany. I was in the same place you are. I can barely scrounge up a before picture. I hope everything works out for you. Keep us updated about your progress and good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
