i am a 39 yr old male 5'8 400 plus Dr told me i need to loose ALOT of weight within 5 yrs i will pass away i tried so many diets dr had me on so many diff ones also he wrote to the ins company stating i need the surgery and the ins company said NO WAY i also called and was told its MY FAULT for being this big so i am in a pickle why pay the ins company's so much money to be DENIED health saving surgery im @ my boiling point stuck back where i started  what should a guy do ???

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I really don't understand why the insurance companies can't see that this is going to SAVE them a lot of money in the long run. I am afraid that I will not be 'big" enough to get approved. If I am not approved I think I will seriously consider paying out of pocket. Is my life worth 15K to me? Heck yeah.

I have no idea how long the pre op diet will last if I am approved. What happens if you lose 20-30 lbs and you are no longer 100 lbs over weight? Can they deny you after you have been approved? I think I still have a lot of red tape to go through before getting approve, but I sure as heck don't want to get approved only to be let down in the end. KWIM?

We are stationed at Kings Bay Sub Base. I know that they proform this surgery at NAS JAX so my fingers are crossed that I will get an appointment there very soon!

Jaime: Don't stress anymore. You got approved and a whole new life is ahead of you. It's the best gift you can give to yourself. I'm sure 90% plus of us felt about ourselves the way you do. BUT WE DON'T ANYMORE...............so good luck Jaime. My prayers go with you.

I am in South Ga too. I am in the Brunswick area. I hope you get approved quickly and can have the surgery. It is a life changing experience and a wonderful journey. You will feel so much better and be able to do so much more. I had my surgery on June 5, 2007 starting at 268 5'3" and down to 195 now. I could not have done this without the band. Good luck and I will be thinking about you.

Peachy

Hi everyone, I'm Jaime a 31 year old mother of 3 boys. I am at my breaking point after YEARS of yo yo dieting I NEED to do something before it is to late. I am currently at my heaviest 240  and I am only 5' 3". My DH is in the Navy and I just recently found out that Tricare approved this surgery as long as you were double your healthy weight. Well I am. I have my first appointment on June 2nd. Hopefully they will get me scheduled for surgery by Fall. Wishfull thinking maybe, but we will see.

I am sick and tired of being fat. I almost cant wear the seatbelts on the rides at Disney. I am so ashamed of myself. I don't want to be skinny, just normal. I can't even wear shorts anymore because I am disgusted with my fat legs. Other then the hospital pictures of my with my babies I have no pictures with (or without) my kids. How did I get to this point? I am hoping this will be my way out.

Thanks for listening. At least I you all know how I am feeling right now!

You will still have the head hunger but it is SOOO much easier to push away from the food when you feel full! And you feel full with very little food. It is still a choice every time you are tempted to eat and you can out eat it by grazing or eating high fat high calorie foods. It is a tool and one that has finally helped me lose 62 lbs! And for the first time in my life I have no doubt that the rest of the weight is coming off as well--very slowly, but that is the BEST way to lose it anyway!

I cant eat bread products and Pasta gets stuck also, sometimes i can eat meat but only like burger or something like that eggs get stuck too. if the food does get stuck i try to burp or i will go throw up, when i take my pills i have to take them with something thicker like the breakfast drink or the Tomato Soup or they get stuck

Hi Deb, Don't fret. There are lots of things you can do to accelerate the weight loss. I would begin by writing down every thing I put into my mouth for a couple of week. If your doctor has a nutritionist, show it to her/him or even to the doctor. Also, increase the Protein and decrease the carbs. Make sure your portions are what they should be. I hate to say this, but try cutting out Desserts (even though they go down easy) for a couple of weeks and see if it makes a difference. I have arthritis in my hip so I too can't do much in the way of exercising. I'm having surgery in September for a hip replacement (now I'll two matching). I know how it is to have pain and think you can't exercise, but remember you still have a body above the knees. You can do resistance exercise while sitting, you can do a whole bunch of things without walking around, dancing around, etc. You can get on the floor and do some leg raises, etc etc. Get all that creativity you have in your head and put that energy into seeing how you can speed up the process. If all fails, ask your doc to check your thyroid. Good Luck...........

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
