How old were you when you were banded? I am looking for the oldest person (at least ont his site) to be banded. I was 29, and I think it would be great for my mom but she is 63. Is that too old? I would love any input.

If you go back to forum and you scroll down, there is age specific forum groups and there is a group for the sixties. I'm sure somebody there could probalby help you with that.

Good luck.

I am 55 and when I first started looking into the surgery, I thought my age might be a concern. Ha. I felt like a youngster next to some of the women at the seminar, some in their late 60's. The doctor told them they weren't too old (but I assume they probably had to go through more pre-op testing, maybe get a cardiology release, etc.). I'd say go for it, you're never too old to start taking better care of yourself and enjoying life more!

Hi- I was 64yrs when banded this 5/6th. My sister was over 60 when she had a RYN surgery, and she had some serious health issues. It probably saved her life.

I wasn't as heavy and didn't have any life threatening problems so I decided I wanted the band. I wouldn't loose as much and it would be a slower loss.

I have only lost about 15 lbs since I started, but I feel so much better just having those lbs off. I have sleep apnea, high cholestral and am post polio so have physical bone and muscle problems.

Hey there I am 60 and just had my band on the 19th.. I am doing great .Yes you have to go through a lot more pre testing but I am so glad they do it like that. I too was afraid I was too old but they do this operation on 70 year olds too..

Never to old to feel better ... I can't wait to get off my meds.

I was 52 and it was the best decision I ever made.

Both my wife and I had the surgery on the same day.

My surgeon says he doesn't like to band folks over 65, unless they are a pretty healthy 65yo.

I don't understand doctors that have upper age limits. Do retired folks not deserve quality of life? Don't doctors think they would be healthier if they were thinner?

Never did understand that one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
