Staying the Same...

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on May 2, I am down 19 pounds, but I have been stuck here for two weeks. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have been back to a regular diet for 1 1/2 weeks. I've been eating eggs, chicken & veggies and walking. Any suggestions, is this normal?

I had a very similar experience. Keep doing what you are doing and you will see the results again. I lsot 18 pounds the first two weeks after surgery. Then, the doctor put me on mushies/shredded food, and I gained about 4 pounds back. I just told myself that my body was reacting to the changes and that plateaus are normal.

I'm pretty sure it is normal. It is happening to me, too, as well as some others on the board. Give yourself a little time and make sure you are taking in enough food. I found when I tracked my food that for a while there I was only taking in about 300-400 calories a day so I bumped it up to about 700-800. That's all I can get in right now. My biggest problem is the water! I just can't seem to get enough in. We're gonna make it, though!!

You also need to take into consideration how much you're eating (portion wise) as well as how much Protein each day. I'm not on a "calorie" limit, but I can only have 1/4cup each meal, limited carbs...at least 60gms protein each day. I lost 9lbs 1st 2wks post-op, then 5lbs this 3rd week post-op. yes, everybody looses diff, but I know how I'm maintaining my diet is making it work for me. You're still on the right tract..good work!!

I was banded May 7th and lost 10 pounds the first week. Then I stayed the same weight for two WHOLE weeks. It was awful, but finally this week I dropped 4 pounds. So I can totally relate, but it will come off if you stick to the plan!! Keep up the good work!

I would have to say it is very normal. My best friend and I were banded on May 9th and lost 23 pounds in the first couple weeks post op but have not lost ANYTHING in almost two weeks. My friend...the same thing. I am doing everything right but the scale will not budge. Keep doing what you are doing and remain positive. Things will get better for us!!!

Just to let ya'll know, I lost 4 lbs this week, I guess it's just the body adjusting to all this rapid change that caused it to stall for a while.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
