Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I moved my surgery revision from band to sleeve to April 29th. I will know more soon. I just want to get it over with and start on the healing process.

I find better interaction with gastric sleeve info on this sight as opposed to obesity help..PLEASE keep posts coming..if someone doesn't want to read about VGS than don't read...we are all here to help one another. It seems there are lapbanders with numerous problems so if they learn more info about sleeve it may be of great value to their health.

I was almost a bandster and realized the fills would not work for me. I have many relatives with diabetes which is why I chose sleeve and the aspect of the lower maintenance appealed to me. This does not mean I don't respect someone's choice for lapband.

I have several friends with LB who are very happy. Networking is the name of the game and if we can help one another why not?

Yeah, I like this site a LOT better than the other one.

Hi, I'm interest in knowing wich insurance approved you for your sleeve. Mine denied it because it is still an experimental surgery, not proven.

Did you appeal?

Did you appeal?

Wow Shatzie - they decline because it's experimental?

In Ontario Canada they even do it through the Health Care system if you qualify (I am not willing to wait 2-3 yrs on a list though) My BMI too low for them right now at 36. If they do it here (Canada seems always last) I am amazed they won't (Where are you from?) Keep trying - Band is the one not covered here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
