Snack Ideas?

Recommended Posts

I usually eat 3 Snacks per day. I can only eat about 1/8 of a cup right now (ive been like this the entire time...my dr. is ok with it) so I eat 6 times a day.

I usually eat:

1/2 of a granola bar

1/2 a yogart

Hummus and 4 tortilla chips

1/3 of a ear of corn

bing cherries

String cheese

Slice of Turkey rolled with mustard

Telling me I can't snack is like telling me I'm not allowed to breathe.

I have:

Quaker Rice Cakes 40-60 calories

Curves granola bars 100 calories and really yummy

Microwave popcorn 100 cal bags

Fiber One Cereal. I mix 1/4 cup of original and 1/4 cup of the caramel delight squares, which are too sweet and too high in sugar to eat alone.

I watch my calories and stay under 1200 per day.

Hi Erika,

your my weight twin; my banding is scheduled for 6/20... how did you handle the pre-op diet?

Hi there -

I actually did really well on the pre-op diet. I was so worried that I wouldn't shrink my liver enough that I was totally serious about my diet.

I was on a 1,000 calorie a day diet and I never felt hungry. My typical day was:

Breakfast - Slim Fast shake

lunch - Lean Cuisine

dinner - Lean Cuisine

I could have SF Jell-o and SF pudding. I could also have salad greens and low-cal/low-fat dressing. They preferred lemon juice or no dressing, but ack, I can't do that.

If I wanted all Slim Fast, I could have had four shakes a day and no Lean Cuisine.

I found with this plan I was really satisfied and I lost 17 pounds before my surgery. Take care!

I sometimes have the Classic Crab artificial crab meat (made with fish and crab). The leg style is about the size of a string cheese and three have only 90 calories. They come fully cooked. I also make crab cakes with them and have them in salad. Good Omega threes, too.

Where do you get this? I don't recall ever seeing it. I did a search for it and nothing came up.

Thanks!!

You can find it in any grocery store. I've found it either where the lunch meat is or with the seafood. Love me some crab meat!! I like to throw it in the pan with a little cajun seasoning on it.

Favorite snacks:

Vitamuffin (the chocolate is to die for - 2 oz each - 100 calories)

Edamame (I buy the ones in the shells and boil for about 3 minutes)

100 calorie snack pack of microwave popcorn

sf/ff pudding cups

turkey pepperoni (45 calories a stick)

Rye crackers and ultra low fat cream cheese (or laughing cow light cheese)

fruit

dry Cereal (1 oz)

I am an evening eater (head hunger) and couldn't make it without planning at least one snack. My opinion (as shared by my WLC) is that snacking is a normal part of life and during the weight loss phase I should be eating as I would for the rest of my life, so that my weight loss is sustainable.

I've done Weight Watchers so much my mind thinks in WW points, not calories really. I try to limit my Snacks to 2 or 3 points. My favorite Snacks are:

Laughing cow light wedge of either garlic herb or french onion,

Hummus (I found avocado cilantro hummus at the farmer's market) with either baked tortilla chips or Ak-Mak crackers (high in fiber)

6 green kalamata olives (I love olives, can't live without them)

WW yogurt with a tblspn ground flax seed mixed in (tastes kinda like pie to me)

fruit (watermelon, cantelope, etc.)

string cheese or light babybel with 7 almonds

4 oz. cottage cheese with a tblspn of ground flax seed mixed in

edamame (I found a recipe for edamame spread, gonna have to try it with Ak-Mak crackers)

My doctor is a strong believer in 6 small meals a day. He says that is the way humans are meant to eat. So I tend to have trouble eating often enough and little enough. Probably because pre-band, though I knew better, I tended to skip Breakfast and lunch (because I wasn't hungry and was busy) and eat a lot at supper, then snack in the evening. Now I try to remember to eat something every three hours. But I still tend to be hungrier at night. I have had just one fill so far, so I'm still able to eat a lot at one time. Hopefully this will change as I get more fills. I usually use yogurt or a Protein Bar as a midafternoon snack, then cheese and/or whole wheat crackers or refried Beans + cheese and salsa in the evening.

I love parmesan cheese crisps. I use a silicone baking sheet, inside my cookie sheet---make little mounds with the shredded parmesan cheese, then bake at 375, and watch them closely. They will melt and begin browning on the edges, when they do, take them out, let them cool, and they get crispy. I sometimes toss pepperoni slices in to bake with them on another sheet....

They both give me the crunch and salty flavor I miss in chips....but even they are not the best nutritionally---but I like 'em!!!

Well still pre-op and looking for low calorie and fat Snacks. For now and after

I made this recipe up for Mom when she was alive she was on a diet and Type II diabetic also

1 package chocolate Fudge (Jello) sugar free pudding

1 cup skim milk

1 8 oz. tub of sugar free Cool Whip

Make putting with milk. Whip with wire wisk till very thick

Fold in with spartula cool whip to your desired chocolate color. I usually put about half of the container in the pudding and save the rest.

Put in 1/2 cup little bowls, cover with clear plasitc wrap and put in fridge for an hour or two

Then enjoy with dollop of the left over Cool Whip on top.

Instant Mock Chocolate Mousse

You can use any flavor of pudding if you wish, strawberry is nice also

You can freeze it and it makes a nice mock ice cream although a tad grainy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
