Hi everyone. My name is Michelle. I am 35. I live in Minnesota. I was banded on February 25, 2008 by Dr. Jeff Baker at Unity Hospital, Bariatric Center. So far I have lost 45 pounds total. I am very glad I made this decision! It is the best one I have made in a very long time. I have found alot of foods I used to be able to eat, that I can no longer eat. Beef Jerky is the one I miss the most. I also am not able to eat even very toasted bread. I do not miss the bread.

I am very happy to find this website. There are no Lap Band support groups where I live, only gastric bypass so I find it very hard to find people like me who have been banded.

Oh you have done so wonderful I had mine on Jan 28, 2008 and have only lost 28 pounds - for a while I could eat anything because I guess my band was not tight enough - what are you eating - I have finally reached my 'sweet spot' and am having a hard time finding what I can eat without sliming now - sure is a struggle - but still so glad I did this - I have waited 3 years for this

Welcome Michelle! I originally looked to have my procedure done at Unity Hospital too but then I switched to Park Nicollet. My first consult originally was with Jeff's father, Dr. Daniel Baker. Small world. Great work on your current weight loss and good luck for the future!

Hi! I eat alot of Protein, tuna, fish, eggs, mashed potatos, cottage cheese, beef, Soups, rice, fruit, vegetables. I still eat pretty much what I used to except for the fast food, chips and deep fried foods. I am having problems with bread, even toasted. I have gotten some pretty good receipes for some dishes that are not too bad for you either....let me know if you want me to share!

Sure, I would say share them. I believe there is a forum section for food and nutrition with a recipes section. That would probably be the place to post them. :biggrin2: Thanks for sharing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
