HELP! I am having such a tough time. Bad food choices & not exercising and have gained 3lbs over the last 3 weeks. I am writing this to rally myself into doing what is good for me - eating right & moving my body. Any thoughts?

You just gotta do it! Recently I had been making some bad food choices. Go back to basics, strip your cabinets of things that trigger those bad choices. Think in your mind how you want to look, how you are going to look when you are at goal, think how healthy you will feel.

Find an exercise you like, not one that is a chore. Have a dog? Go for a walk, dogs are THE BEST walking partners in the world. When my dogs see me in my exercise clothes they spin in circles, cause they know they are going for a walk.

Don´t like to walk, check out a DVD, ask a friend to do them with you. Sorry to say, it we just gotta do it. Wish we could say to our Drs, "set me for 140 pounds," and voile we´re there. But as my Dr says, "we´re just the needle experts, you´re the one doing the work."

When I get in a slump, I take a trip to my closet. I have old clothes that are still a little tight on me. tring them on to size up gets me motivated and back on tract!

Thanks globally yours & neverb4. I know it's a mind set. I've had a good day today & my goal is for a good day tomorrow. I will make time for exercise. Sometimes I just need to say/write the problem out loud! You guys are great examples with awesome weight loss.

Ursa, When I don't feel like walking, I will tell myself to put on my tennis shoes and exercise clothes, but I don't have to walk. I'll just wear them around the house. Once I have them on, it makes it easier to go ahead and head out the door. I also tell myself I'll just do 10 minutes, but once I get walking, I end up doing 30 minutes. It's just the getting myself out there part that hinders me. I also walk at 6:30, which is a really nice part of the day to walk. It's still light out, but the sun is going down, and so it's pretty cool about that time, even here in Florida.

Hang in there!

I really don't like exercise... but now that I am down 40+ pounds it is becoming easier and less hurtful to walk.... but... to keep me motivated I am going to take a "Love to Exercise" hypnosis class through my local parks and recreation.... I am hoping that it will pompt me to get out more and move! The one thing that I have learned more than anything about the band is that it really is only a tool... it still takes as much self control as I needed before.... it just helps a little bit more with some physical responses when I mess up.... but it is still very hard work.... it's a mental thing and educating ourselves about truly proper nutrition and how to take care of our bodies in all ways. Good luck to all of you!

I have been walking-I'm just having a tough time eating. The Protein doesn't go down nearly as easy as sugary, fatty foods. I am due for a fill 9/9/08 & hopefully that will help. You're right-it's only a tool and self-restraint is still a battle.

smsmithart-you're really lucky that you can't eat junk. I'm hoping with my next fill on 9/9 that will happen to me!

Hey Witchbabe,

I know how you are feeling sorta. I was banded may 30th and have lost a decent chunk of weight. But I find there are so many weight obsessed people on here that I had to take a step back.

So I watch my eating, but am not neurotic, I have been exercising, and walk 4kms every second day or I hit the gym for a cardio kick. But I am not focusing on a number, I am not weighing myself and every month or so I measure myself and take a set of pictures. I dont always see results right away, but I have to change my thinking. I am not here for instant gratification, I want to get healthy and health does not always correlate with weight. Learn to love you and when you feel hungry, go for a walk, get on a bike, call a girlfriend and get her to go to the mall.

Just dont beat yourself up, you have lost a good chunk of weight you just need a kick start!

witchbabe I have no idea what you are depressed about. You have lost 37 pounds in FOUR(4) MONTHS!!!!!! Is there any chance you would have done that pre-band? I think you should be proud. You aren't always going to lose weight. There will be points where your body just wants to hang on to what it has and when that happens you need to eat less, drink more and exercise. I just had 4 weeks at the same weight but my surgeon gave me a pep talk and I have been really watching what I eat and have lost 3 pounds this week. MORE Protein that is the secret! Stay Strong.

I am eating more and more, my doc didnt fill me last time. I had my surgery May 19th and only one fill.. no wonder I am hungry... I gained 3 pounds in 2 weeks.. my support group is tomorrow and I am telling the nurse to make my appointment sooner.. he had me at oct 25th.. that is too far out... I could gain 10 by then.. Iam trying.. really but I am so frustrated that I went through this and cant get a fill when I need it..

Yaherd I don't understand why some doctors make their patients wait so long between fills. If you could do it without one you wouldn't have had the band in the first place!!!! When it comes to health care you always have to be the one in charge. Put your foot down and demand a fill and at that appointment make your next appt for 4 weeks after that. You can do it and you will do it!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
