Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm going to TLBC June 13 to replace my band. Is anyone going to be there?

Hi there, I already had my re-vision surgery Mar 28th.

What happened to you? Your weight loss has been phenominal... did you have a complication?

Hi Peaches,

Well I've been having pain and Dr. Yau needs to get in there, see what's going on, and probably replace the band with a different one. I'm pretty much completely defilled right now, if I fill, I have more pain. I need to get back to a good fill level, I'm eating way too much. I feel out of control. Why did you need revision surgery?

I have a 10 cc Midband.

I am so sorry to hear of your delema... I know how frustrating it is NOT to have restriction.

I got my band July 11th/07 and up until Mid Nov I was getting more and more restriction/fills... and then all of a sudden it wouldn't hold a restriction for more than a day or two then.... I could eat as much as I wanted... no pb'ing...

I just KNEW there was a leak, but no one would listen to me until I'd gone in for 12 fills!!!! Then I demanded to see Dr. Yau at Grace for a Fluro... then I had to have 3 fluro's before HE beleived I indeed had a leek. So it took until Mar 28th to get my Port/tubing replaced... He came out of the operating room spoke to my husband and said " I found two holes in the tubing".... nurse must have poked into the wrong spot doing a fill in the office...

Pissed off to say the least, and all those months wasted with no weight loss.

I wrote the TLBC support site for TLBC bandsters and wrote a question about the problems my doctor was having giving me a fill. My question was read and put to Dr. Yau and he said he would fix the problem. So I am on my way tomorrow.

Hi Doddie; How did your surgery go? You must be home safe and sound by now...

Are you feeling o.k.??

Hi Peaches: Yes, I flew to Toronto on the 4th, on the 5th Dr. Yau and I discussed what I would like - to have the port sewn or moved. I chose neither. I just wanted the port turned to make a fill easier as I am just about at my sweet spot at 5.5 ccs. By having the port sewn, it creates different challenges. The sewn port can cause the tubing to wear and break where a free floating port does not do that. However, the free floating port (my words) can twist. I took the chance on the free floating port and hopefully the port won't twist again.

I am feeling great. A bit bruised and stitches yet to come out but no pain and I can feel the port down a bit from the old placing. I sure hope this works for me but if it doesn't, I will then have the port sewn down. Thanks for asking really appreciate your support.

Hi Doddie,

I have been thinking of you and am glad to hear your surgery went well. Did they have to put you out or did they give you a local? Hopefully that is the end of complicaitons.

Sherri

Hi 2bslimsherri: Thank you very much for your support. I was put under with a very light anethestic. I have had no pain and picked up my life where I left it. I still have a good restriction at 5.5ccs (can't eat more than 1 cup of food which includes 3 oz hard protein). I too hope the port remains as is. I hope it is the end also, but my journey is one step at a time solving any problem on the way. I get overwhelmed when I think of what could go wrong so try to focus on today.

How are you doing? Is your port sewn down? Your chart indicates you are doing extremely well, What fill amount do you have?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
