Howdy All!

I just bought a scale (the first one in many years LOL!! :scared2:) I am on the road to bandster-ville and am just curious-

How often do you weigh yourselves? I know my weight can vary from day to day (hour to hour sometimes) and I don't want to be derailed by a momentary "gain".

I am sure my doc and dietician will suggest how often I weigh myself, but I was curious how often everyone in bandster-ville weighs themselves.

Thanks!:smile2:

I don't think it's ocd. I weigh daily and have read where some ppl weigh once in the morning and once at night. I'm not that bad but I do check every morning :smile2:

I weigh every morning, which is generally thought of as a bad idea b/c you will drive yourself crazy w/ any gain. I've proved to myself that it means nothing, tho, because I can get on, off, and back on and see a huge change.

I look at it as proof that your weight really does fluctuate during the day. That way, if I go to the doc and his scale doesn't say what I expected, I don't freak out, because I know how much it can vary.

I typically weight morning and night. At first any gain would drive me crazy, but not anymore. I have since learned that my weight can fluctuate anywhere between 1 to 4 pounds in any given day. I also learned that I always gain 2-5 pounds during TOM that immediately comes off when it is finished.

Because of these fluctuations, I never change my current weight values unless I have stayed at a certain weight 3-5 days in a row. I found that it was really depressing to post I am at # weight and find for the next several days I am a few pounds over. For instance, I have been at 179 in the morning for 2 days now, but I am not ready to Celebrate hitting the 170's until I have a couple more days in :0).

I weigh myself every morning and evening as well. Contrary to making me upset if I see a gain, I find that it keeps me on track. However I only change my ticker to reflect monday morning's weight.

I was on a diet once where they recommended weighing each morning, writing it down and forgetting it. At the end of the week, average the weights. I found that I really liked this and gains were not as upsetting; it kept me on track.

I am obsessed with my scale. I literally have an addiction - 3x a day at least. I have got to stop weighing so much!! LOL

This past weekend we went to the beach and I didn't have a scale to weigh on - three days! I was down 4 pounds when I got back...so I'm going to do my best to scale back a bit!

i weigh 3 times a day. twice in the morning. i get up, pee, strip down, weigh. step off scale, turn on shower, get back on scale. then again at night before bed. i have issues, yes i know. i couldnt weigh when we went to vegas in april and i was having serious issues with it! first bathroom we stopped in on the drive home that had a scale i jumped right on it! it used to drive me crazy as well, the flucuations, but now i know that i will weigh 3-4lbs different am to pm and i gain anywhere up to 5lbs during that time of the month.

I must be the anomaly here, because I weigh in maybe once every three or four days or so. I find it too depressing to weigh daily and not see the scale move fast enough.

I also only weigh first thing in the morning, and the scale is in the basement (it's one of those giant doctor scales, you know the one where you have to slide the things across the top), so it's a real pain in the ass to get out of bed and go down two flights of stairs to see the numbers!

I weigh myself nearly every morning but I record it on a spreadsheet only once a week.

Every day I weight myself, sometimes 3-4 times a day. I have to try not to do it so much I get so disgusted I hate scales.< /p>

When I first started I weighed every morning and then averaged them together for the week.

Now that I am in maintenance I find myself weighing WAAAAAYYYY too much. However, only my Saturday morning weights count. My weight fluctuates pretty consistantly throughout the week. I am lowest on Sundays and then gain weight until Tuesday and then it starts coming off again. Don't know what that is about cause I usually get MORE exercise on Sunday (12 mile runs) and eat less...go figure! The scale is as fickle as the band!

Take it from me...try not to get obsessed. I know...easier said than done!

Thanks, everybody!

I am not even getting close to being banded (hoping before Thanksgiving ), and got my scale yesterday and have weighed myself 3x!! LOL:blushing: . I can see myself going a bit overboard weighing once I really get losing. Hehehehe!! I am going from NEVER stepping on a scale if I could help it (even turned around at the doctors office so I couldn't see my weight) to getting on and off the darned thing after every meal.

Let's keep the answers comin'!

Thanks! You guys (and gals) are the BESTEST (as my 4 yo niece says).

Every morning; it helps keep me on track. Sometimes I forget, but I weigh in most days.

I think after losing over 100 lbs though, I'm at the point where I'm not obsessing over it -- I know to look for the overall trend and not get upset about minor changes. It's given me a good feel for my usual fluctuations over the course of my "month" (5 weeks for me), and that's good info to have going forward so I can address minor weight gain at 3-5 lbs before it turns into 10 or 20 lbs. That's my plan anyway. Who knows if it'll actually work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
