Stressin' way out today!

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have been on here asking questions. Reading alot. Getting a good feel for everything. All has been fine and dandy cuz I have been ultra busy for the past couple of weeks. No time to really really concentrate on my consult date.

Well, it is tomorrow morning and it is all reality now. I have been up and moving alot today to get the stress out but still it remains. Am not taking any extra Xanax as I do not want to use it anymore than needed. (yes, we all had this talk one day) Was anyone else this nervous before just their little old consult appointment? I think it is excitement that I am feeling. REALLY looking forward to getting this ball rolling.

Think I may take a long warm bath. That seems to take the edge off. Pray for me! :smile2::w00t::scared2:

Lots of mixed emotions before mine. Did I really want to give up the food? Did I really want to have something implanted inside me? Did I REALLY want to give up the food? Did I REALLY WANT to give up the food. This had had it's stressful emotional moments but keep moving forward. Your emotions will catch up. And as my internist told me....you can get up and walk away right up til they put you under for the surgery.

You'll find good people in your surgeons office who will help you along the way! You'll do great.

Good luck,

Gwenn

Wow, thanks Gwenn! I thought I was the only one that ever really had the thought "Do I REALLY want to give up the food???" It is very reassuring to know that there are other people that have the same thoughts as me. I finally decided YES!! My date is June 13th and I couldn't be more excited.

Yes Teri, I have been going through this for months. I went to my surgeon's office last Thursday just to buy the Impact Advanced Recovery shakes and I was sick to my stomach...I wasn't even seeing any doctors. I know the feelings that you are having very well...it's fear and excitement all mixed together. I know it will be worth it in the long run.

Good Luck!!

Amy

I am so glad there are others out there that were as freaked out as I am. I am soooo looking forward to getting my band. I want to see weight move off of me. I know there will be bumps in the road.

I am also glad that I filled out all the pre-appointment paper work a week ago instead of waiting till today. I think that would have added to the anxiety. I got a nice hot cup of coffee (decaf only for me) and I am calming down some.

Thank you so much for the encouragement.

There are lots of other shakes and Protein additivies you can use. Optifast is good. They gave it to me in the hospital. Walgreen carries. The caramel is good.

But you can use Atkins which are very good and the NEW slimfast which is low carb no sugar- but I still like atkins best.

I had my first appointment today with my lap band doctor. I too, was very nervous. However, I think I am freaking out about possibly not getting approved with my insurance. I was very discouraged when I was done with the insurance specialist. On the bright side, my doctor is awesome.:confused2: I don't want to get too excited, then get turned down by the insurance. It's hard not to get excited about the band.

WOW Gwen you hit the nail on the head when you wrote this one. "Do I really want to give up the food?" Food has been such a love for me. I love to shop for it, cook it and I don't even mind cleaning up the mess!

Honestly, I have been struggling with this very question.

I would have loved to not give up the food, but I also know it was slow suicide. I haven't solved this yet, and I'm sure there are places in me that wanted the food more than life (isn't the the core of addiction), but I do know how unhealthy that is. I started therapy over a year ago with a woman who specializes in food related issues, and I'm still there. It's very important, even if we can't overcome our STUFF, to learn how to live next door to it rather than having it in our kitchen all the time.

No truer words have been spoken for me Gwenn. Food is an addiction for me. And the flip side of that addiction is a long slow death. Crap!

I too had the same thots. Food had become one of my best friends only that best friend wasn't looking out for my best interests! My band is now my best friend and we look out for each other, lol. I have felt in the past that I was addicted to food and it was very much a mental hurdle for me to resist the temptation of food. I was also an emotional eater and that behavior to eat could be triggered by just about anything, especially stress. The thing that is saving me right now is that I have always known in the back of my mind that I was ruining my quality of life and above all else I needed help in a big way, hence my decision to go for the band! As surgery date came closer I got more nervous but then I realized I was finally taking the drastic measures I needed to further better myself to live life to it's fullest once again. As for how I feel today, regardless of what may happen in the future, I feel this is the only decision I could have made and I am a much happier and healthier person already!!!!! Good luck to you all who are having those thots as most of us who have already had surgery had at one time  Food will always be an issue but an issue that I am developing tools to conquer! Your new life begins after surgery, at least mine sure did!

When I went to my consult I was nervous too. I ended up having a high blood pressure because of it and that made her want to check my blood pressure weekly. Turns out it was nerves that made it go up the 2nd appt she checked it it was lower but still elevated, 3rd completely normal. As I went and went the stress level went down.

Well, you're doing great. And you're correct of course, this is just a tool, not magic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
