Hello,

I am new to this forum. I am heavily considering lap-band surgery. I am scheduled to go to 2 different seminars to decide which hospital I will be accepted in. I am considered morbidly obese and I am determined to live a full life. I am very sensitive about my weight due to other health issues at hand. Please, any suggestions that any of you might have or just would like to chat feel free to contact me.

Thank you

Greyridge:smile::unsure:

I decided to do the band because at age 48, with my family history, I'm probably only halfway through my life, and I didn't want to live the second half with all kinds of problems and risks, and limitations. I have a long way to go. It seems most people on this website don't have to lose as much as I do. I don't mind, though. I stuck to the pre pre surgery diet, the pre surgery diet, and now the post surgery diet, and I'm losing well. My first visit was in January, so I can't complain.

I like the support at my Center. There are all kinds of people I had to visit, and they all taught me something. I would suggest to anyone to look for that kind of support. psychologist, physical therapist, recreational therapist, dietician and nurse visit--all twice, plus 2 doctor visits. Oh, plus the Pharmasist. I have all kinds of cards for people to call on with questions.

I hope you feel comfortable with at least one of your possibililities. Good luck and keep in touch here. You will find an answer to about anything. I read about the good, bad, and ugly before surgery, but never wavered. I liked having all the info, though. Any problems that might crop up, I have some answers to, and I can avoid many problems having read so much on these forums.

Hi,

My name is Jacs and I'm in the same boat as you are. I called Beaumont Hosp in Troy, MI and I planning to attend one their seminars for the lap band either this week or next. I'm scared but like you, I'm 42 and I want to leave my life too. Have you gotten any addictional information yet. I have a million questions and I'm hoping they will all be answered after the seminar. My prayers are with you.

Jacs

Absolutely -- look for the center with the most aftercare support. Having people on staff who are banded themselves is a huge help for them understanding what you are going through. Don't use a surgery center that mostly does bypass surgeries, especially one that gives the same instructions for both. Instead, go with one who specializes in banding and has experience with the long-term aftercare for bandsters.

Good luck!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
