Doctor took me off of birth control pills prior to surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok so I go see my doctor on Thrusday for my final appointment before surgery. I sign my consent and all is well. We are going over what meds I take and I am on seasonale birth control pills. I had my tubes tied in 1996 after my second child was born and my PCP put me back on BCP's to regulate my periods. And one every 3 months is kinda nice:thumbup:

Well I am Started back on a fresh pack on the 18th of June so it's only been since sunday and on thursday we have to go off of them for concerns of blood clots and surgery....

So I just got off my cycle less then a week ago and have to stop taking them now and guess what happens???

I am now having a second cycle and am PMS'ing while im on my happy liquid Protein diet.:)

Life with me around is fun today as you can tell...

Just wanted to mention this so if anyone else is currently taking birth control pills they can have a heads up to plan or can ask ahead of time.

Only good thing is I still have 8 days till surgery so I should be done by banding day:tt2:

I was banded on May 8th and also take BCP but my doctor didn't make me stop. I even took my BCP with me to the hospital to take the next morning since I would be staying over night and the nurses knew I took it and they didn't say anything.

It sounds more like a precautionary thing to me. As much of a pain as it is, I'd rather deal with a period and PMS than deal with a blood clot.

boy can i relate to that! my doc asked me to stop taking it at least 2 weeks prior to surgery..but i didn't want to have it the day of surgery so i stopped a bit before. well, we all know that stopping the bcp can throw everything off track and low and behold i had my cycle when i went into surgery...oh what fun!!!

12 months???

U win this round hands down!!

I went on the pill because I was having very heavy cycles about 3 weeks apart and was becoming anemic..

So the more then one cycle in a month is not new just used to one every 3 months

Long as I'm done by surgery I'll be very happy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
