:) I am now almost 7 days post-op and am having terrible gassy, crampy diarreah-like pains. I sometimes pass the gas and I am having really soft bowel movements, but for the most part, it's just the pain.

I am on full liquids until June 6th. Today, I mashed some white navy Beans and mixed it with the broth and a little rice from chicken and rice Soup. It was yummy but soon after, I got the pains again and my stomach still hurts 7 hours later. The same thing happened yesterday when I pureed vegatable beef Soup for dinner.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned? I read that Immodium AD would help or yogurt.

Any advice is appreciated!

Lexy, I noticed whenever I'm on liquids for a day or two, even post-fill, I get the same way. It's your body's way of cleansing and flushing when it has no solid food to deal with. It's gonna all be soft til you're on solids again :) And yes I get cramps and "noisy movement" too. I think of it as a power wash, hehe.

Although when you say your tummy hurts, is it your stomach (band) or is it your bowels?

Another thing is that you were on pain meds for a few days, which typically constipates. Your body may be going the extra mile to right itself after being slowed down for a bit, not to mention the insult of invasive surgery.

Are you taking your Gas X??

Finally, Beans make me gassy (bleh). I would try some low fat cottage cheese, which is nice and soft but can maybe help with some binding.

My stomach is fine, but my gut does do the crampy thing prior to BM or gas. I've had problems with IBS and was worried that's what this was. It's not debilitating, but scares me. I feel like I'm going to explode or have an accident, making work somewhat uncomfortable at times. It isn't very often for me, so I'm managing. I just keep reminding myself "I just had surgery". Things are going to be messed up for a while. I've heard a lot of good things about GasX but haven't used it yet. Maybe I should give it a try, but thought it was for the actual stomach, not further down the line.

GasX will help with any gas in the digestive system. Its the only thing that helps me when I get gastritis. And some people swear it helps with the after surgery gas left outside your organs too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
