I want some REAL food!?!?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

Okay, two days ago I read this & thought- Good lord, I'm fine & I was just banded 5/27. Now, I'm dying to eat.

I think its all emotional on my part because I just want to cry. I just watched 2 hours on the food Network channel.

I chewed on some chips & spit them out...that helped a little, but I'm still so down. I didn't know I would have to be on 2 weeks of pure liquids then another on creamy & then soft foods.

I just don't want to end up back in the hospital with a slippage problem. I met a lady in the hospital who had just had her band put back in. I really don't want 3 surgeries just because I am emotional and want food.

I know in the end I'll be happy, but I didn't expect to be on liquids so long. I have already lost 16lbs since surgery date.

Why are you not following doctors orders? Didn't they put you on a 3 week liquid plan then soft foods for a week?

Are you worried about a slippage? From what I've been told, this is a healing time & eating anything will basically make your stomach churn to digest it & then you are really risking a slippage.

hey there, i just thought i would tell you guys that my doctors instructions are 24-48 hrs liquid and 4 wks mushies and then solids after that. this doctor is #1 in Texas and knows what he is doing. he trains other doctors. so to me it's safe to say that his "diet" plans for the healing process are suitable for anyone who has had the lapband. .... this is for the ppl who are worried that eating mushies too soon is going to be really bad for them. .......hopefully this will help ease your mind a little. i was banded 5-23-08-----------

Wow, just when you think you're all alone you realize your not. I'm trying to think of it this way I had days and days of stuffing my mouth and look what its done. Come on everyone out there can you just imagine if we all continue to support each other I know we can make it through this liquid and mushy stage. We'll be so proud of ourselves when these couple of weeks of are over. I just completed week one today but the Doctor said I can not start mushies till tommorrrow . . . I can hardly wait to wake up and have some cream of wheat.

Hi everyone!

There is great feedback from all of these threads. I just wanted to say everyone is different; every Dr.'s orders are different. I see people saying on here, "Why are you eating mushies/solids so quickly after surgery?" I don’t think anyone should pass judgment because they are doing something different than what another's Dr. ordered for them. I don’t want this to sound hateful, but why don’t we just share what we all were told from our Dr. instead of passing judgment????

I am not necessarily talking about this thread when I say passing judgment, I want to clarify that. I have read on other postings including ones I have posted before and after this one...where people can be so hateful when it comes to what others Dr.'s ordered for them versus their own....I just wanted to clarify that I was talking about all postings in general.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much!! I agree wholeheartedly. From reading different posts, it looks like just about every doctor and program is different. Some docs don't have a pre-op diet, mine had a very strict 8 day pre-opo diet. I stuck with it...not one bite of food passed my lips for 8 days. I thought that the pureed phase wouldn't be so bad but it was. When I read that I could add tuna, I was in heaven!

I am glad I am not the only one that felt that way. I sure didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I am constantly reading people "bash" others because THEY are not following the plan their Dr. set for them. Come on people, this is a support group (and a WONDERFUL one) it is for help not hurt! I have seen people that used the same Dr. I did have a totally different diet plan before and after. I think it all depends on your BMI and what they think will work best for that individual!

I don't care if people can't bear to be on liquid diets for one day and eat a steak the day after surgery.

The only thing that matters to me is what I do. I followed the rules I was given to a T.

Hey Ladies

I just wanted to say that I spoke with my doctor about this discussion that we are having and he stated that a lot of things weigh heavily upon how quickly you are able to eat what you eat when you eat it. Age, BMI, other stomache issues, are just a few of the things that wiegh in on this descision. What is written in books and pamphlets as he states is a "one size " fits all and we all know that "one size " does not definitely fit al.

He compared it to the fact that many of his younger patients continue to tolerate Pasta and rice where as many of his older patients can not digest these certain things after being banded.

Every one is just very different.

Be blessed on your journey's ladies

Finally~~~~~ my psch evaluation is scheduled for this Thusday !! I hear they set your date pretty close to after that .. I have alot of hopes and some fears . I guess reality will really set in when I have the surgery , but like you guys I am doing this for my health .. who else is gonna do it but me ??I am diabetic and I think the long term effects of diabetes really sucks to think of that future . So chicken broth and tea it is for me I guess and Im sure if everyone else in this room can do it , I can and hopefull ill look as great as the rest of u guys ! :)

Hormel chili with cheese? Mmmmm, sounds good...I'll have to try that one!

To Curious one.... When you are desperate enough...you can have the willpower to do it! I've never met anyone who regrets getting the band. The first question I ask anyone who has it...6 mos, a year and longer....is "Would you do it again?" And their answers have always been "Yes!" Good luck to you! I think we all know how you feel or we wouldn't be on this message board.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
