I had my band done on May 13th (Love it) In years past, I was successful on ww, I also thought it was very healthy (just had trouble sticking with it,,,hence the band) Does anyone use ww with their band? It is so much easier for my brain to think points instead of calories. Also, as far as carbs go,,I know we are supposed to avoid them, but is it because theyare bad for our band or are they just too high in calories? If so, what about the whole wheat Pasta, and whole grain bread? ? Thanks so much for the advice!!:D

There was a post about this a about 4 days ago. If you do a search you will probably find it plus more about WW and the band.

I will probably do Core once I'm banded. Was always afraid to before because I didn't think I could control myself.

Hi, I'm new here and am going to work on getting an approval from my Ins and doctor. I,too was very succussful with WW program on points. Now, everytime I join I can't stick with it, so why should I keep spending money & miss out on meetings? I believe doing the points after banding would be great. I'm sure it will work with me. Points is easy, but I gotta be sure I eat some healthy food. I don't mind Water, yogurt, protien drinks like slim fast in a blender for a slushy drink..I can't stand my weight and need to get it off to keep up with my job standing & bending over. Soo, I'm going to push it to try & get one done this summer..Wish me luck. I love hearing all the details like yours and hope everyone else will do the same. It really helps..Good luck with your surgery date!!

so, i have been banded for about 2 months now. I lost great the first month, then yo-yo-ed the same 2 or 3 lbs for the last month. I have not followed the doctor's low carb high Protein diet, and I haven't been exercising, so I blame no one but myself. However, I decided last week that it was time to recommit myself. I started Couch to 5k, and I went to a WW meeting. I've been to WW plenty of times before, but never had any success because I never would stick to the plan. At all. I'd go to the meeting, the I'd count pts for a day, then forget about it til the next week. Now, because I'm banded, I don't have any problem sticking to the points that I'm alloted. I still have some left over for snacking, which I like, but since I'm actually counting my points, I am being careful about my snacking, instead of eating a whole bag of oreos in a day like last week. It's only been 4 days so far, but I think that I'll be able to stick to it this time. And between WW and running, I've lost another 3 or 4 lbs since Thursday, breaking my plateau of the last month.

So, in summary, I think that WW is a very good idea, particularly if you find that you do need more accountability. Even though we're banded, we still have to be on a diet, and WW is a nice sensible diet that works if you work it.

And I don't know who said it, but I totally agree that points are much easier to keep track of than cals, Protein, etc. I don't know why, but they just are.

I have done Weight Watchers more times than I can count and always gained the weight back. So, I feel like I will stick with WW online and my band (5/13/08 banded). I am avoiding carbs as my nutritionist seems to be pushing me in that direction. So, I think WW was always good for staying on track - although my Protein requirements are much higher now than they ever were!

I have thought WW would be a good thing to start when things slow down for me. Like everyone else said, I just couldn't stick with it before, but found it very doable. Others have posted that they didn't get the band to count calories or points. It's totally up to us. I was told over and over "the band is just a tool". WW could be another one. I'm not sure I"d have the nerve to tell WW that I have the band, though. When it's been discussed at meetings before, there was no support for it at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
