my doc says NOOOOO carbonated drinks. Period.

I think you should ask your doctor about his opinion.

Many people here say they have tried carbonation but it is very uncomfortable. Plus, beer is a whoooooole lotta calories you don't need. Maybe try a nice vodka/cranberry instead?

I am not banded yet so I'm no expert but alot of times when I drink beer I drink it on ice (colder, reduces calories) and it seems to reduce carbonation too.

I agree!

But on a personal note...

Wine is a yes! (thank God)

Beer is a no! I am one that the carbonation nearly kills me... the bad outweighs the good on this one beverage. :) I truly miss my coors light!

Not directly reduces calories - reduces it because the ice melts and waters it down. 12 oz beer plus 4 oz of ice equals 16 oz of Fluid with same number of calories. Not really a calorie reduction but calorie watering down...sorry for any confusion.

I was told that the gas from the carbonated beverage's can get trapped in your pouch and cause your stomach to come up thru the band and get stuck (like a reverse effect), then they have to do emergency surgery....That is how my dietican sorta explained it to me. I am still in my 6 months of no alcohal phase, only 2 months out =(

Yikes! That would be HORRIBLE!!! I was told it stretches the pouch, the gases, that is. I've only tested it once with a big gulp of mountain dew and it was followed by painful burps. NEVER again. In desperation... like to take a pill or something, i've taken a sip of my daughter's soda and swished until it was flat...

You know, I use to drink 4 cans of coke a day before my sugery, and I really dont miss it all that much. Once in a GREAT while, someone will pop the top of a can and the sound makes me want one. Isnt that funny? Not the smell or taste or inner desire... the sound of the can being opened. Ha!

StrangeDz...I'm the opposite of you. I've never been a big pop drinker, and if so it was always Sprite and I was at a restaurant. Before surgery I probably went 4 or 5 months without even thinking about one. Since surgery though, I've been craving one sooo bad!!! It must be because I know I'm not allowed to have it right now lol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
