Is it POINTLESS to fight an exclusion?

My previous insurance, Kaiser, had a secret 'exclusion' that the sales person LIED about when I bought my individual insurance a few months back and specifically ASKED about bariatric surgery, so naturally, when my paperwork came back that was my reason for denial.

Some people have told me not to waste my time, how could I fight it when something as simple as "We told her, her insurance doesn't carry that surgery!" OR SHOULD I?

HAVE ANY OF YOU ever fought this and won?

It's so silly, I can't believe they can treat it like it's something cosmetic...

I think you're screwed. If it was your company's exclusion, you could appeal to the company to get them to pay for it, but if it's private insurance, there is no one to appeal to.

That's the word I was looking for!!! Thank you...my husband's company has an exclusion...no WLS. So my question now is, has anyone had any luck petitioning a company...I think you call it a waiver, and or something else...

Thanks, Joy

I was chatting and asked the infamous (as of tonight for me  exclusion question, and one person said it was almost impossible for one to try to get a waiver from that company...so I may be paying out of pocket...I need to check to see if my insurance will pay afterwards if something happens and I need more medical intervention.

goodnight

Thank you! I checked and I think I won't fight...and now I know I need to check with our insurance to see if they will pay if I have complications (I would have already paid in cash obviously)...thanks for your help.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
