HI all

My name is Nikki. I just had my lap band surgery on May 20th. Still recovering for the most part. Wow is my abdomen sore. I am more sore after this surgery than I was after my c-section! I am very new to this forum and not even really sure how the whole thing works but thought I would give it a try. It's always good to talk to people that are going through the same thing as you. :rolleyes2:

Hey Nikki!!!!

I'll be having my lap-band on Thursday 05/29. I'm wishing you ease of your pain, lots of success and remember "mind over matter", if you don't mind, it don't matter. E-mail me anytime at gopher4md@yahoo.com.

WOW...okay, here are some coincidences....My name is Nikki too and I had my lapband on MARCH 20 and I'm 34 and I had a c-section!!! Kinda freaky, huh? LOL...wow...I'm sorry you're still sore, I really didn't have much pain at all. I had mine done on a Thursday and was back at work on Tuesday with very little pain killers. Are you walking? That helped me a lot! Have you had gas pains? We need to figure out more of our similarities...this is just crazy! :0)

Hey I have been told that the pain is not worst than the C-Sect pain, but know I am getting nervous. Please continue to post so I can follow your progress to see if it lets up soon.

Thanks

When I mentioned it to the nurse she said it would be a little more painful than a c-section because you use all the muscles in your abdomen to do just about everything and where they cut you for the c-section is down lower. I was up and about as soon as I could feel my legs after the c-section. With this it hurts just moving around, lying, sitting. But it is getting better and I am sure every day it will continue to get better. In the end it will all be well worth it. Good luck to you.

Wow that is kinda freaky! Congrats on not having much pain at all. That is great. How are you feeling now? Eating normal foods? Would you say it has been worth it? I am trying to do some walking. Right now I think my biggest difficulty is not being able to pick up my son. He cries for me and I cannot pick him up. That part really sucks. I had terrible gas pains the first two days after but those are gone now. I do feel weak and tired but I am sure as time goes on that will get better to. Did you have to do the 2 weeks liquid diet before surgery?

Yes the port side is definitely the sorest part. I am starting to feel a little better. How are you sleeping at night? I have been having a tough time since I always slept on my side and can't do that yet. Are you having any difficulties with drinking all the liquids?

You guys are and inspiration to me. I am waiting for insurance approval which should be no problem. My problem is doctor says he may not be able to do surgery when he gets in there because of scar tissue. I keep reading about the bad gas pains. Do you get to take anything for it? Congrats to you all!

They just told me that because I have been opened and cut from breast bone to belly button that they know I have a ton of scar tissue and that they may not be able to get thru it to do the surgery. It really worries me. I do not want to go thru all this and them wake me up to tell me they could not do it. They will send for my approval this next week. Hope they can do it. I want it really bad too. Good luck to you.

Can you please tell me what kind of pain medication you were prescribed post op. I'm allergic to vicodin so I was just wondering I'm sure they would send you home with something.

I was also concerned about scar tissue since I've had three abdominal surgeries, with the incision running from the pubic area up to just above my navel. It wasn't a problem with my lapband surgery, since most of the incisions are higher than that.

The pain medicine they sent me home with was Lortab liquid.< /p>

word of encouragement, my Doc told me that he had only had one that he wasnt able to complete due to scare tissue....that means many that he was successful on

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
