Had my post-op visit today, 8 days after surgery. It really went fine, but:

Instead of losing any weight since surgery, I gained 1.5 lbs. I had a feeling I didn't lose any weight, despite nothing but liquids... I just didn't "feel" lighter. That doesn't really bother me, because I knew the weight I had to lose right before surgery wasn't "real" weight, it was just to shrink the liver, and it was the kind of weight that would easily be re-gained. But I didn't think I'd actually go up 1.5 pounds. I'm not discouraged or anything. I'm just reporting the facts.

The port pain I'm having is normal, but the huge black and blue bruising that covers the whole area, isn't necessarily normal. The doctor said I'm accumulating Fluid there and need to walk more.

I got to start on mushies today. I waited until dinner time and I started really light. I made a WW recipe, mock garlic mashed potatoes which actually are made of cauliflour, not potatoes. It's a recipe I love. Well, I had a whole bowl and didn't feel full. Didn't notice any restriction at all.

The good news is, my doctor lets us have our first fill at 4 weeks and I already have an appointment for my fill. June 12th. Looks like I will have to rely on willpower and self-discipline to get there!

On the positive side, I met someone from my area through this forum last week, and after exchanging numerous e-mails over the last 4 days, we met in person today at the doctor's office and had a delightful visit. We also met up with another bandster there who was banded the same day I was (May 15th) and the three of us could not stop talking. We all exchanged e-mail addresses and agreed to be a support team for each other. So that was very good.

And so it goes. :cursing:

Keep strong. I know that everyone's body is different. We all metabolize differently, but I have had a bit more luck then you. I was banded on May 13th, I have lost 13 pounds since morning of surgery, and total of 31 pounds in the last month since my start date of my 2 week diet.

Wierd thing is that I even cheated on the pre-op diet a few times. I guess I had alot of Water weight to lose! Also, walking is the most important thing. It not only gets rid of gas, but it gives you a TON of energy.

Good Luck

Same thing happened to me. I went up 3 lbs, the dr said probably from the IV Fluid in the hospital. I've lost it and am eating mushies now. It'll come off. Stay strong--you'll get through it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
