Don't panic but they have told me not to expect any weight loss till my first fill .. Don't worry you are doing great and it will continue to be better. Hang in there ...

One of my favorite low-calorie mushies that was Protein and more satisfying was low-fat or fat-free cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. I would use FF ricotta, plus some oregano, garlic flakes/powder, and top with a low cal spaghetti sauce and I found that really satisfying.

I also tried some refried Beans (low fat and FF varieties) and low-fat or FF sour cream on top, melted cheese (little bit).

Hang in there, when you get to soft foods you will be better.

Don't panic! I know how you feel, but you are completely normal. It is really hard before that first fill (and, just a warning... it may continue to be hard for a few fills after that...) I say this all the time and I sound like a broken record - don't stress out about losing weight right now. I know you see all kinds of people on this sight who lose crazy amounts of weight, but the average person doesn't lose weight right after surgery because the band isn't yet doing what the band is designed to do. You are on mushies because your body is healing from major gastric surgery and the band needs to heal in it's place so it can give you years of good service! You are not going to get and stay full easily on mushies. Some people do, I have never met one in person, but most people get their appetite back and have this problem before they get restriction. Just do what you are supposed to be doing - eat the way your doctor told you to and let your body heal. Get your fills as often as you can get them and you'll find yourself losing weight in no time.

how much Water or crystal lite type drinks are u having per day? Also the reason for the high protien is to keep u fuller longer... i would start to drink the shakes at least 2x's a day and when u do eat just go slow take your time and chew...and put your fork down between bites this should help because it actually helps me becuase i use to scarf my food down... keep us updated... or see if your Dr. or nutrionist would give u an appitiate suppressent or something that might help..

Many people don't have good restriction until their 2nd or 3rd fill. Everyone is different. You just have to monitor your calorie intake and exercise if you want to lose weight before restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
