Hello, I have been "lurking" for a while now and finally decided to join in. :cool2: I am in the very early stages of the Lap-Band process. I have not met with a surgeon, but do have two thumbs up from my PCP. Need I say, I have tried every diet under the sun which has brought me to this considerable option; being banded. Oh I'd lose a few pounds (once even 20!) but then I'd fall back upon old bad habits and gain everything back PLUS MORE.

I have come to really like this site and enjoy reading all of your posts..

Thanks for having me!

Deb

Hi everyone:

I too am a newbie here. I learned of this website while at the last support group meeting for the Colorado Bariatric Surgery Institute (One of the members mentioned it, so I figured I'd join).

Right now, my Internet access is rather limited as I'm posting via the local Library, but when I get my home PC back online, I'll be sure to bookmark this site.

In the meantime, feel free to stop by & visit my blog as it has a choc full of information for those who have yet to have the surgery as well as those who have had it many moons ago. :cool2:

I'll be back to check on things in a couple of days.

Cheers

Hey Deb! Welcome to the LPT! I am fairly new here too! I go through Barnstead on my way to work everyday:) It's good to have another local here:thumbup: Where are you having the surgery done? I'm going through the Portsmouth office. Take care and I look forward to your posts! Moe

Hi Moe!!! Wow I never expected someone to even know where Barnstead was. This is great :rolleyes2:

I am thinking of using Portsmouth Hospital but am also considering some out-of-state options in order to push the process along.

Its so nice to know that there are locals going through this process too!

Not too many NH people here, but I know of at least two locally that have had it done and both are very glad they did it.

Portsmouth seems very nice. The doctor's were at the info night and I got really great impressions of the two that were there. I am anxious to get the process going, but they said the minimum amount of time is 2 months...I am hoping to be one of the quickest to move through. We'll see though...Keep in touch and we can be great support for each other through this process:thumbup:

I'm new too. I'm getting banded on June 12 at 12:30pm in Ontario. Very nervous but excited too. How do you get the fitness ticker added on to your posts??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
