6 month countdown, anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I'm going on Tuesday (May 27th) to get weighed and officially start off my 6 month insurance mandated diet.

I can understand why it is a requirement, the nurse who I talked to at my insurance company explained that it is to show commitment and that I'm ready to make this change in my life. But still... if there's a thread out there with other people who are counting down the six months I'd love to commiserate with others at the same stage as I am!

I start my 2nd month on June 4th. I know how you feel. It feels like forever but my first month has been going by quickly and I've already had fantastic results. I lost 8.5 pounds in 2 weeks and I can't wait to see how much more I lost on the 4th. I wish you luck.

I am also doing the 6th month and am about to start my 5th month!! YAY!! I can't wait to get this boat on the river. All moaning and groaning aside, it really does go by pretty quickly. It also gives you a lot of time to read, research, and get ready for the changes youll be making very soon. I will have completed all the other requirements during the 6 months too, so that is good. My psych eval and sleep study are happening at the beginning of June and I will have my nutritionist appt. sometime during July so that I will be ready to submit my paperwork ASAP. I have lost about 10 lbs, but I haven't been killing myself or anything. I know its bad, but Im kinda in "last supper" syndrome right now. I definitely am ready though!

Hey there! I'm also in my 6 month pre-approval stage. I've just completed my 3rd appointment, only 3 more to go! I agree with the previous posters. It's gone by quickly so far. I also go to support group each month, they are the ones who told me about this site. I'm trying very hard and know that I'm doing this all for a good reason. I've been reading up on things in here for about 2 months and have found it very helpful. The part I am worried about the most is the liquid pre-op and post-op. My doctor requires a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'd like to find out what I'll need and where to get it, along with recipies and tips on how to get through it. Some of the stores/shops people list are not availiable in my area. I live in West Central Pennsylvania. I'm open to any suggestions! Best of luck to all of us pre-bandsters!

I'm glad to hear the six months go by quickly!

It just makes me wish I'd started the process last summer when I first started thinking about getting the surgery. Oh well, in the meantime, it gives me a long time to research this surgery completely to make sure that I'm fully prepared to use this tool correctly.

Whygirl, is the support group pretty open to having non-banded people go to the sessions?

Yes, they welcome you at all stages. When I attened the seminar they invited everyone there to come. The surgeon requires pre-surgical pts to attend at least one support grp meeting. I attended my seminar in April and have gone to 2 support grp meetings so far. They are only about an hour and are interesting and informative.

I so badley want to put a 3 on the front of my numbers instead of a 4 I want to be out of the 400's I know I only have 10.5 more pounds until I am but hopefully I did it. Wednesday needs to get here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
