my fills are horrible. my doctor digs around and pokes me 8 or 9 times. my port is slightly tilted however and makes for a harder time in finding it. i am always bruised badly after a fill.

That is CRAZY :scared2:!! I had my first fill today. My doc had me push my stomach muscles against his finger and lift my head while he finds the port. He felt around til he found it and then put the needle right into the port. I could feel the saline going into the band. It didn't hurt, it just felt cold (kinda cool!!).

Maybe the next time you go in, you can try doing this with your muscles to help the doc a little bit.....:smile2:

If they're having problems accessing your port I'd demand the fluoroscopy!!! I am a big wimp but still, that's crazy. It's like washing your clothes in the river or driving a horse and buggy, time to move on to better technology!

i had a really, really bad first fill - complete with lots of pushing on my stomach and needle prodding. i swear, it took an eternity and it hurt!

however, i had my second fill today and my doc found the port no problem and it was over before i knew it. it was super-easy.

so i guess i've had one bad and one good experience.

My first fill was painless, the needle was huge and long, probably a 12-14g (i am a nurse) and 4-5 in long, i had to push my abdomen out, but the doctor found the port right away and it was over in less than 5 minuts. All is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had 4 fills and no pain or any problems. The surgeon gives me some local anaesthetic first so a tiny sting from that and then I just feel the pressurewhen he is putting in the fill but no discomfort or pain. You are getting banded on my birthday!!!!!!

Hey there, nothing to do with the fills, just noticed that you had your band put on by Dr Stephen Watson and I have an appointment with him on the 31st July to talk about the proceedure. I am really quite scared about the whole thing and my BMI is 38 not 40 like they recommend so I don't even know if he will consider me for it. Can you tell me whether or not he is good and possibly make me feel better by sharing your experience. Don't mean to be a pain but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Cheers

P.S. I agree life does begin at 40, I will be 40 in November and want to look good for it.:wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
