I have my first appointment with my PCM!

Recommended Posts

Okay so I finally have my first appointment with my PCM to see exactly what my insurance company is going to require. Anyone ever worked with Tricare?? I'm so psyched to have this appointment and get started on my journey. Wish me luck.

Hi there....

I have tricare prime... I went to my PCM... he referred me to a surgeon. I went to an info seminar on 4-21....At that seminar I turned in a copy of my ID card and two years of medical records.... The nurse submitted into tricare for approval on Thursday afternoon and I was approved by Friday morning..... I had my surgery 2 days ago.....A month start to finish!

Good luck!!

I just got home from my appointment and she submitted my referral and told me there was no reason she could see that tricare wouldn't approve it. So now i have to wait to see the surgeon which in this area is probably going to take me the longest.

My surgeon would not see me until they had approval from my insurance company.... If you have the name of the surgeon they are sending you to... I would call and see when the next seminar is... Most doctors make you attend that... So you can put a check in that block right away....

The seminar is the end of June and i'm already scheduled for it so that is on the way to being one less thing i need to do. Its more just getting the ball rolling. I also have no idea which doctor they are going to send me to because they have them in Austin, Temple and Dallas so its all who Tricare can find and who's got the first available.

It sure sounds like the ball is moving right along!! I remember this stage..... So exciting....

You can go the Tricare website for your referral and it will show what doctor it is for... Mine was up on the website within 24 hours... The paper one will come in 7-10 days....

I have TriCare Prime Remote - I got approval to see my surgeon for evaluation but I need to go to the information seminar first! I have already signed up and its scheduled for June 5th. I hope it won't take long to get an appointment after that with my surgeon. Side note, my initial referral has not shown up on Tricare website - but I called and got the approval #. Not sure why it isn't there.

Kaleka- I had to attend the seminar first... Tricare didnt require it..The surgeons office did.. In fact I couldnt even schedule an appt with her until they got approval from Tricare.. which they were able to days after the seminar because I filled out all their paperwork....

Once you know who the surgeon is... I would call them and ask for any paper work you need to fill out and if they need records... I really stayed on top of it all... so my timing was only 1 month from seminar to banding

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
