Constant Mucus and Saliva Production

Recommended Posts

I am having a serious problem with my lapband. I have had my band for 5 years. I seem to have a continious mucus and saliva production coming from my sinuses. It gets much worse after I eat. I have made sure that I'm eating and drinking at least 4 hours before I go to bed. Once I go to sleep, it's like my throat relaxes and I start to gag and PB (throw up). It's not food coming up, but all this mucus and saliva. This can go on all night. My primary care Dr. has put me on an antihistime, Prevacid and Singulair. It seemed to help for awhile, but is coming back. Has anyone had this problem. It's killing me!:crying:

Sounds like you might be too tight ?

I have heard this happening with people who are too tight before

I was having the same problem. My band was way too tight. Be careful, I let it go for awhile. The doc had to take all my fill out cause me esophagus is swollen. It's been a month and I can't stand not having any restriction but then again I'm enjoying my import beers that I can't have usually. Seriously I know it's scary waking up choking. Get some fill out, it will help. Kelley

Sounds like you need an unfill. Can you call your band doc and talk to him about it?

I would go back to your surgeon. What you are describing is serious reflux which probably means you are too tight. I would start there.

Hi, I have a almost the same problem. I spit up alot of saliva after eating a few bite of food. I chew the food until it's mush but still cough up saliva not the food. It seems to happen with solid foods. Yogurt, ice cream and soft food never sets it off. I have been banded since March 07 and have had just one small fill 6 months ago. Also have loss over 80 lbs. I just started having this problem a few months ago. No other health issues. Let me know if you get an answer to this. Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. Gas gets trapped in my stomach after eating. I seem to have an increase in saliva/mucus production, too. My sinuses are working overtime. I wake up at night with the feeling of being about to drown. I can't eat hardly anything without it coming back up except for really soft foods like yogurt. I called my doctor. He said to take Pepcid and not to eat after 7:00 p.m. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know as well.

I finally went to the doctor. He let all the saline out. It was definately from being overfilled for to long. He left me completely open for 3 weeks to see if I had any damage done to my esophagus. I was fine, so he gave me another fill, but not near as much. I'm going to have to go back and have more taken out though. It's not as bad as it was before, but I still PB everything I try to eat. Thanks to all, at least I now know what it was!!!

I am having the same problem for the last 3 1/2 months. Since spring and all the pollen. Lost an additional 10 lbs which I did not really need to lose. The moment I lay down the production starts and up I come running to the toliet. That goes on all night. Presently sleeping some upright in a chair or massage chair. Tried all the meds, will be going in to see about loosening my band to see if that will help. A friend loosen her band and it seems to help. Any one else had this problem too...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
