banded 21st and never ending chest pain is here...

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 21st and as soon i woke up i have chest pain. Now i have pain breathing in, white blood cell count is up a little and they said the lower part on my lungs collapsed due to surgery and not breathing deep. The chest pain is still there and has not gone away. Anyone know anything about this and what might it be from?

Ask your surgeon. Hope you feel better.

Hey Jessica, I had a similar thing happen...2 days after surgery I went in with chest pains and they discovered a blood clot in my right lung which they said was due to inactivity directly after surgery. However, I had not been inactive at all. ( I have an 18 month old to chase around!) I think these kinds of things are just common after surgery. I could find no other reason to explain it.

Go see your doctor, and if he's not interested in figuring it out, go to the ER and get another opinion.

Hi Jessica,

YES! You should definately go and have it checked out right away! I hope you're on something to help break up that clot. I had a blood clot in my leg and a piece traveled to my lung in 2003 (this had nothing to do with Lapband surgery, I haven't had my surgery yet). They put me in the hospital for 5 days, I was on heparin and coumadin and the doctor told me I was lucky that I was alive. Blood clots are serious stuff. Take care of it right away.....good luck!

Yes, there's no telling what the chest pain could be. It could be serious or it could be a pulled muscle or the band hit a nerve, etc. But if it is serious, you need to know.

if you have a blood clot in your lung you will know. I had one in November and it was the worst pain in the world. Dont freak yourself out, but do talk to your surgeon or even your PCP to see your next steps.

Chest pain is common after a laparoscopic surgery. Mine was terrible, I thought I broke a rib or something. Cough as much as you can, and keep breathing. I was worried too, but after the first week all was well. If you do a search on here, you will see many many people have/had chest pain following the surgery.
