Dinner got Stuck

Recommended Posts

I am in stage 5 and I got home late last night and stopped to pick up dinner for me and my DH. Well I bought a roasted chicken and when I got home I was so hungry I started eating it, skin and all, forgetting to chew. Well within minutes I had so much discomfort in the middle of my chest, I pb'd for about 30 minutes then made myself throw up because something felt stuck and everything came up. I'm embarrased to tell everyone, because I know better, but my old self kicked in. This happened once before BUT never this bad!

Any suggestions what to do when this happens, besides trying to make myself barf it up?

I think if it won't go down it's got to come up. And I think you are supposed to switch back to liquids for a day or two and let the area heal up from being aggravated, or you'll PB again.

Old habits die hard, but a good ole PB is a good lesson to cause us to remember, huh? Sorry 'bout that. I know it's yucky and uncomfortable and even scary. 30 minutes is a long time to be dealing with that! Be good to your band and let things heal.

If I went back to liquids every time I pb'd I'd be on them nonstop. I'm not saying that wouldn't be a good idea, but my fill is a little snug. That golf ball feeling hurts, I warned my mom about that, but she had to find out for herself, like we all do. Old bad habits are hard to break, I'm 4 months out and still get ping pong ball sizes now.

Hey Mayra, I believe it means she's transitioned to solid foods. Some of us have four stages, some three, it all depends on how you define your food groups.

Hope that helps!

Boys mom, I was thinking the same thing, so don't feel stupid lol

Everyone is different of course, but, skin and my band are not on friendly terms. I think most of us banded have been there done that......but it stinks. Sorry you had to go through it.

For the poster who said, if I went on liquids everytime I pb'd........I know what you mean lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
