I had my pre-op visit with my surgeon yesterday. Prior to seeing him they did a body scan on me. This procedure had not been mentioned in my previous meetings with them. I meant to ask about it when I talked with the surgeon but forgot. Did anyone else have this done? Just curious what it is for.

Did they tell you what they were scanning for? What did they make you do? I didn't have this.

They had me remove all of my clothes and jewelry and get inside what looks like one of those photo booths. A recording gave me instructions on what to do. There were two footprints on the floor showing where to place my feet (puts you in sort of a spread-eagle standing position). Then I had to grab two handlebars on either side of me. One of the handles had a button and when I was ready I pushed the button and the machine scanned up the front of me and down the back. When I got out, there was a computer screen showing a scan of the outline of my body filled in with various colors and with cirles around certain points on my body. They didn't tell me what it was for, I just thought it was interesting and was wondering what it was done for. I meant to ask but forgot and now I am just curious.

It's not that pressing to me. I was just curious; I don't recall anyone else here mentioning it but thought maybe someone could enlighten me...

I have read alot on here and I have never heard of this body scan thing, but every surgeon is different for sure. The only tests my doc made me have is blood tests. good luck with your journey!!

Just to clarify this was not a test that I had to go out and get or pay extra for, it was done in the surgeons office just prior to sitting down with the surgeon for my pre-op visit. I guess it is just something they do to document your progress...dunno.

I had that done. I'm surprised they didn't show you what it was afterwards. They are scanning your body contour for comparison as you lose weight. The after picture shows every lump, bump, and roll on your body :rolleyes2:. What they do is put the most recent pics on top of the oldest so you have a visual of how your look. It's pretty cool!

Thanks for your reply Renee. I suspected that it had something to do with tracking my progress. Before she left the room for me to go through with the scan she told me that I could take a look at the picture on the monitor when I was done, I assumed that she would explain afterwards what exactly I was looking at but I went straight from there to sit down with the surgeon and I never did get to ask the nurse about it.

You are right, it does show every lump and bump and roll...I stepped out of that booth and I was like... :rolleyes2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
