KristyLynn 0 Posted May 22, 2008 you get the band, time passes, you are lighter and ppl ask how you did it. what do you say? i think it'd be cute to say "i eat a lot less and i exercise a lot more." haha. because, as we have learned...there is a lot that people don't understand about it. and they are quick to make judgement. but..maybe if the person is heavy, it'd be nice to tell them because they'd really like to know. whatcha think? For me it depends on who the person is and the situation I'm in. I personally don't think my business is everyone else's but at the same time I am not ashamed of having the band. If the person is someone close to me or if it is to help someone else then I go for telling them but not every person I have a casual acquiantence with needs to know about me. I tend to be a private person. This probably doesn't help, but there you have it
Apples2 19 Posted May 22, 2008 I have told some of my friends that I will be banded. I am sure that it will spread to people that I don't care to disclose it to but will just keep them guessing. Most time I don't feel like getting into a discussion about MY BUSINESS with just a casual friend or acquaintance when I am asked by that person how I am losing weight. I'm not keeping things completely secret but I don't want to give information about being banded cuz don't want to be judged by someone that really isn't a part of my life. eazes 0 Posted May 22, 2008 If anybody asks me I'll just tell them I'm just making more healthy choices when it comes to my body. Not everyone has to know the whole story. If I want to tell them the whole truth then I will but it will only be to a select few.
jetti 2 Posted May 22, 2008 only 2 of my coworkers know that I had the band but since i bring my lunch to work everyday everone is able to see the small portions that I eat so when they say I look good I just tell them I eat less - which they see - and I work out 5 days a week. EricaLyn 0 Posted May 22, 2008 The dorks in my office haven't noticed anything. I'm down 36 pounds and not a peep out of any of them. My family flips out every time they see me because they see me getting smaller, but the people around here? Major duhs-ville. I'll probably drop 100 lbs and someone will say, "did you cut your hair?". Actually, I did get my hair foiled this weekend from my naturally dark brunette hair to A LOT of blonde in it. One person has noticed and she's not even in my department. I don't think I'll have to explain anything to anyone around here. They're just not that observant! olive424 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Erica, Have you changed to smaller sized clothes? I think that makes a big difference... Shows your curves. Being banded 6/10/08 Dr. Kuri
Froggi 4 Posted May 22, 2008 I think I would shout it out from the rooftops that I finally found something that worked for me and would want people to know! I've been telling several people already that I'm in the process of it and people think it's a wonderful thing!
EricaLyn 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Erica, Have you changed to smaller sized clothes? I think that makes a big difference... Shows your curves. Being banded 6/10/08 Dr. Kuri The past couple of days I've worn my same 'large' clothes and they're obviously bigger on me. Today I wore a shirt that is very 'curve' hugging and still no comments. I'm not expecting any comments really. I don't need them. I think it's just funny my co-workers notice diddly squat. About 10 years ago I lost over 100 lbs and no one said a word. This was at another office. One day I said something to someone about losing weight and she said, "You haven't lost any weight" and I about fell off my chair. I was shocked. So the next day I brought in a photo of the entire department that we had taken about a year before and she nearly screamed out in shock. She said, "I never saw you that way! You've lost a TON of weight!" It was very weird. She ran around showing it to everyone and the comments didn't stop after that. People couldn't believe I'd been THAT fat. It was complimentary and offensive all at the same time. LOL I think I'll have to go away on vacation for a few weeks around here befor anyone notices. As long as I notice though - who cares! olive424 0 Posted May 22, 2008 Erica, That story is very telling of what we go through being overweight. People avert there eyes to avoid uncomfortable stares. Ahhh well, the good thing about "us".... We will always be fat girls in our heads most likely and this will stop us from averting our eyes and making our fellow fat girls feel invisible. lol... it's clear I have issues to work out. Thanks for letting me vent. This place is great. Olive
