That is sooo awesome!!! You know docs are human beings too and they come with their own ideas and preconceived ideas sometimes. I know you said you may be switching docs (and rightly so) but on the other hand I bet you, if you stay with this ill informed doctor you will not only educate him/her you will make a world of difference for the next client who has to deal with that doc. I was shocked!!! when you said your doctor prescribed zoloft??!!:) Now that is was wack! Geeze that doctor has a lot to learn about mental disorders.

Iam from michigan and have the bc/bs of michigan ins and my plan requires the 6month diet. My pcp was the one who suggested the band. Some docs have an opinion about wls and tend to convey that to the patient. Hopefully your doc will reconsider and get on board with the surgeon. Best of luck.

Congrats! That is so awesome. Maybe your GP just wanted to see how hard you would fight for it. Something tells me that GPs get a lot of patients that flit from one thing to another and never really stick with it. He saw you fight for it and knew that you could be successful.

okay, so I am wondering if I will be in the same boat. I discussed w/PCP WLS last year. He said he was not a fan and would not recommend it. I did try to loose weight to no avail, going back to PCP for check ups. I canceled my appt in Feb and decided to check out lap band. I needed a referral for the first consult with surgeon and his office gave it. Now, I have an appt tomorrow w/PCP to ask for the letter....not sure how this will go.....if he does it, I could be scheduled w/in 4 weeks for surgery because other tests have already been done...keeping my fingers crossed

How did your appointment go? Did you get approved? Hope so, let us know how it went.

Glad to hear you got what you wanted and should have gotten. I went to my PCP on Friday and I knew he was not a fan of the LB, but he said he would write the letter. He said he never denies, but he has concerns about being able to "beat" the system. I explained why I felt I thought it would work for me and he said then go for it. Glad to hear we both will be able to start on our journey! Good Luck!

We'll, I'm still waiting for my letter, still waiting for his office to call me for required blood test. I call now every day, and still NOTHING!! The day after I get this letter from him, I'm calling to get my records, and have already found a new GP. Sorry to rant, but this is sooooo frustrating!!

that sucks, everyone seems to take their precious time when we are waiting on nails for answers and help. It's ridiculous

OMG!!!! After calling twice a day for the last two weeks, I get a call from the Docs office that my letter is ready to be picked up!!! Also, after calling the lab everyday for two weeks the doc finally walked the blood test order across the hall, and I had my lab work done this morning. Funny, I have an appt with a new GP on monday. We'll it only took 6 weeks to get approval, write a letter, and order blood test and an EKG. I'm keeping my appt monday with the new GP. After this hell, I'll never go back to my old one! Good news is as soon as my lab work is back, I can schedule my surgery!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
