I am 3 days out from getting banded, feeling pretty bad today with gas pain and incision pain. Hope that all will pass soon. My question: I take 2 small pills for blood pressure, and 1 for depression. Can I take all these meds at once like I used to, can they fit through the band? Should I take them one at a time?

Also, is Tomato Soup considered a full liquid?

I can't take all of my pills together like I used to...although I'm only 6 days out. Tomato Soup is considered a full liquid but I added a bit more Water to mine.

Are you feeling any better at 6 days out? I feel icky at this point!

I'm feeling so much better now that I'm on the full liquid diet. If you would have asked me how I was feeling yesterday I would have been cranky...but today the gas really started to move (I know...gross!) and I feel like a different person. Obviously, I'm still having some pain in the belly but I can handle this kind of pain. I went to the doctors today and walked for an hour...a very slow moving hour. You'll feel better soon!

Hi, Been 4 weeks since I had my banding. I took my pills everyday. I also am on blood pressure, antidepresent etc. but even the one night in the hospital they gave me my pills. I crushed them and put them in Jello, the caps I opened. I can now take them whole if they are not to large and break them in half if they are large.

I was banded on 4/17 and had my first fill on 5/15. I currently take meds for depression/anxiety (Lexapro) and blood pressure (Atenolol). Since they're tiny pills, I'd usually just take them at the same time, no problem. But I've already forgotten, a couple of times, not to take a big swig of Water with them, resulting in a bit of an uncomfortable bubble. So now I'm trying to remember to go more slowly and just deal with taking things one at a time instead. I'd say to go slowly, test the waters, and use your best judgment based on how you feel.

Thanks! all the advise is so helpful. I kinda feel like I left the hospital and I've been on my own figuring this stuff out. I have accidently taken a big sip of Water too - I'm so thirsty! I guess that how to learn what works and what doesnt' - trying it and seeing if you are uncomfortable.

You should ask your doc about your meds. I took all of my meds with me to my last pre-op appointment and went over everything with the nurses.

Lucky me -- I'm now taking no meds. Both my BP and diabetes are under control (so fast!). Though, they think I may need to go back on BP meds eventually.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
